Chapter meetings news February 2017
February 15th 2017 at IBM Amsterdam – “The Agile wave: Project Managers are not dinosaurian after all!” On February 15 under the compelling leadership and guidance of Arie van Bennekum, who brings 22 years of hands-on agile development to the table, the chapter event took place at IBM Amsterdam answering following key questions: How does Agile relate to SAFe? What is the difference between Agile and Scrum? Can we do Project Portfolio Management with Agile or do we need SAFe or perhaps even something else? And what about the role of the Project Manager? The second half of the evening went reflecting PMI NL performance during 2016 and ambition for 2017.
PMI Meet-up in Amsterdam and Eindhoven First informal PMI meetup events were successfully launched in both Amsterdam and Eindhoven with the objective of connecting project managers at social level.
Different topics were discussed, among them the key ideas which got emerged as potential topics for next meetups are: -
Information about PMP certification – structure of exam, how and when to register Agile versus waterfall methodologies – How to cope? How to share knowledge between project managers across an organization in order to keep the communication effective (best practices, advices, tricks, tools) We called it a successful get-together as for networking possibilities and also exchanging work related aspects. The goal is to organize a PMI meetup every month and share experience and enthusiasm among project managers and leaders. You are more than welcome to join us next time! January 26th 2017 at High Tech Campus, Eindhoven – “Meetup” Similarly, it was the first local “meetup” event organized in Eindhoven this year. It was an evening enjoyed by everyone who attended. The discussion allowed each participant to share their ideas and experiences related to Project Management. In fact, the next meetup is already being planned as we speak. Stay tuned!
February 1st 2017 at Café Plantage, Amsterdam – “Meetup” In Amsterdam, the event took place on 1st February at Café Plantage with participation from 15 attendees. This first brainstorming session was meant to give more insight into PMI activities and to trigger discussion about general PM challenges, trends, suggestions, advice or networking and collaboration.

Upcoming PMI Netherlands Chapter Events March 28, PMI Chapter Event about DevOps
April 20, PMI Chapter Meeting about Leadership
In February we had a great, inspiring and interesting event about Agile. The presentation of Arie van Bennekum was allowed to take almost one hour longer than planned (which is called waterfall since it is not time-boxed J - yes there is much good in old methodologies as well!). And therefore we want to build on this Agile discussion with the next topic in the school of Agile: DevOps! Mr Thiago de Faria (DataOps Consultant and co-organizer DevOps Amsterdam) will treat us with an informative presentation on DevOps, how it came to be, what it is and what the project manager needs to know about it. And maybe even more‌..
We are very pleased to welcome from the mr Phil Bristol, CMC, PMP, PMI-SP, EMEA Congress Speaker at Project Management Institute on April 20 to speak about the Language of Leadership. Leadership is about creating relationships that build trust, clarify expectations, influence others, and gain commitment to produce quality results in a timely manner. In this interactive chapter meeting, learn how to speak the language of leadership and create trust-based relationships by using a three-tiered approach to building communication skills and significantly increasing team productivity. Experience how to minimize personal differences, which create communication obstacles because of communication style and values. More details will be announced soon on our website and other channels.
More details will be announced next week on our website and other channels.

Engage! The masterclass for change leaders
Project Management Master Award 2016
Do you want to change the culture of your organization? You probably do not want to hear that the culture change you want to start in your company is going to take a while. You would prefer to finish it next week Friday at 15:00. Right? But of course, you know that it is not that easy. But how do you, as a change leader, make sure that the programme you are going to lead will be exciting and most of all successful?
The Research Platform Project Management is proud to announce the Dutch Project Management Master Award 2016! This Award is introduced to publicly recognize outstanding theses by University and University of Applied Sciences students who have contributed to the research, innovation and development of project management in 2016.
We wrote a book about exactly that. It is called: ENGAGE! Een reisgids voor veranderavonturen (a travel guide for change adventures). With some pride, we can even say that it is selling quite well. The book is an excellent aid; it has a lot of practical advice and many relevant real-life cases. But of course it is even better to participate in an interactive day in which you can tackle your challenges together with the three authors! So, we are organising: ENGAGE! A masterclass for change leaders. Whether you have read the book or not, if you want to become a real change leader, you do not want to miss out on this opportunity. Because this will let you develop an approach for your organization together with the authors Woody, Raymond and Wouter. At the end of the day you will have developed answers to the following questions: Starting a change means starting an adventure. That is not everyone’s cup-of-tea. How can you start it in such a way that people will follow you? How do you build a culture that firmly supports the strategy of your organisation? How do you start a movement and how do you keep it going? Everyone is welcome. But in terms of knowledge and level we mainly focus on Change Agents, Change Leaders, Program Managers, HR Directors, Executives, Project Managers and Project Directors. Want to start that culture change? Begin on 30th March 2017. Subscribe here at http://engagehetboek.com/masterclass/
Theses nominations will come from the educational institutes that are allowed to only submit one thesis. The jury will then narrow down the 5 finalists in the first round, and the best thesis will be chosen in the second round. The winner of the Dutch Project Management Master Award 2016 will be announced during the IPMA Award gala on April 10, 2017. The jury will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Hans L.M. Bakker from Delft University of Technology and includes: • Liesbeth Rijsdijk (HS Windesheim) • Richard Middelkoop (Thales) • Tim Busscher (RUG) Research Platform Project Management The Research Platform Project Management is a cooperation between PMI Netherlands Chapter, IPMA Nederland and researchers from several Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences. The aim of the Research platform is to strengthen research in the area of project management in The Netherlands.
