Liverpool, Everton fined after ‘mass confrontation’ in Merseyside

Two English Premier League sides, Liverpool and Everton have been sanctioned by the Football Association, FA after a mass confrontation between both sets of players during the Merseyside derby last week.

Several players from both sides, including substitutes, clashed in an 86th-minute scuffle during the Monday February 13 game.

The confrontation began with Liverpool 2-0 up, when Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford approached Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson.

Both players appeared to be in good spirits but as others became involved, the situation worsened. Pickford and Robertson were subsequently booked.

“Everton and Liverpool have been fined £40,000 and £25,000 respectively for a mass confrontation that took place during their Premier League match on Monday 13 February,” an FA statement read.

“Both clubs admitted that they failed to ensure their players and benches conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and refrained from provocative behaviour during the 86th minute.

“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed their fines during a subsequent hearing, and its written reasons will be published in due course.”

Liverpool won the match 2-0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo.
