Anambra: Women leader allegedly sacked for supporting LP in 2023 election

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) women’s leader of the Ebenebe community in Awka South Local Government Area, Favour Nworah, has been reportedly sacked for supporting the Labour Party in the last election.

Nworah was sacked as the Women President-General of Ebenebe Town Union, Women Wing (ETU WW), last month, on the allegation that she appeared severally at Labour Party rallies and also wore their vest.

The sack has sparked protest in the community as women have taken to the streets, calling for her reinstatement.

In a protest staged in the community at the weekend, Florence Nnatu, who led the protesters, accused some community leaders of having a hand in the crisis that has caused division among the women.

“We are calling on our community leaders, our husbands, who have hand in this crisis that is dividing their wives to remove their hands from it,”

Nnatu said.

The sacked Nworah, while speaking with journalists, admitted to having supported a candidate of the Labour Party for House of Assembly position.

Betara felicitates Tinubu,

The frontline Aspirant for the position of the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Betara Aliyu has congratulated the incoming President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima as they take over the baton of leadership of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Hon. Betara in his goodwill message through his media campaign also felicitated with the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima.

The handing over ceremony from a democratic administration is scheduled for 29th May, 2023 at the Eagles Square, Abuja.

Hon. Betara expressed delight over the antecedence of Senator Tinubu as Governor of Lagos State and Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as the Vice president Kassim Shettima , a former senator in Nigeria’s parliament.

He said: “on behalf of the good people of Biu/Bayo/Shani and Kwaya Kusar Federal Constituency of Borno State, congratulate His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola called me even once, talk more of coming to me as his woman PG, even though I am from the same ward as him.

“I remain an APGA member, and I worked for APGA and Soludo during the 2021 governorship elections. I couldn’t sleep because I know what I did for APGA and Soludo. I used my money, my products, my strength and time for my party APGA to make sure soludo won. I visited all the wards in Awka north to make sure women votes count.”

A new women’s leader, Josephine Okafor, has been appointed in place of Nworah by the Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ify Obinabo. Obinabo, however, could not speak to our correspondent on whether Nworah was indeed removed for supporting the Labour Party. She declined to comment on the matter when reached on the phone.

Nworah was said to have been elected in 2019 for a four-year term, and was yet to complete her term before she was removed from office.
