Kokona crisis: Displaced persons in Mada community cry out for help

Mada victims of the recent clash between farmers and herders in Tattara village in Kokona local government council of Nasarawa state and its environs have made a passionate appeal to the federal and state governments as well as spirited individuals to come to their aid, with food items and clothes, in order to cushion the hardship being faced as a result of the clash.

Speaking in an interview with Peoples Daily Thursday in Garaku, one of the victims, Sunday Francis said that the call became imperative because many people fled their homes without carrying anything alongside to sustain them.

According to him:” We are calling on the state government under the leadership of Governor Sule and other relevant agencies to assist us from this predicament. No food for us to eat. No clothes for us to swear.

“The situation is pathetic. We need assistance from the federal and state governments”.

Meanwhile, members of Mada community in Karu Local government council have been admonished to coexist in harmony with other tribes as well as herdsmen in their respective villages.

The Sarki Mada of Guduma, Malam Sarduna Ahmadu, who gave the advice during a peace meeting held in Guduma on the need for Mada to forget what has happened and forge ahead as farming season is at hand.

He equally urged them to always report any threat on them to the relevant Authority for settlement just as he opined that Mada people are known to be peace loving people wherever they found themselves.

He however called on the state government to as a matter of urgency summon a peace summit between Farmers and herders across the state, stressing that farming activities has commenced and the need to adopt measures to avert clashes between farmers and herders is important.
