A WORD FROM YOUR

Lieutenant Governor DIVISION 21 | PNW

Hello Division 21 Bumblebees! I hope you are all doing well! Can you BEE-lieve it’s already December? It’s so crazy! We’re already 4 months into the school year! However, this also means that my time as Lieutenant Governor will be coming to an end soon… But don’t be sad! You know what they always say, out with the old and in with the new! It has been a pleasure serving this BEE-autiful division thus far and I can’t wait to see what’s in store within the remaining months of my term! This month, Division 21 will be electing the 2015-2016 Lieutenant Governor of Division 21 Key Club at the December DCM! Not only will club delegates be able to vote on who they want as the next KING or QUEEN BEE, but members will also get the opportunity to question and learn more about the candidates running for this position! I highly encourage everyone to attend this DCM because it will be a preview of what your club elections will look like, as well as what caucusing at DCON will be like! Don’t BEE lame and miss out on this fun event, especially since we will be cutting out decorations and doing a white elephant to celebrate the holiday season together as a division! Also, I want to take the time to thank each and every one of you who attended the November DCM! I was not expecting such a great turn out, but as usual, you guys always go above and BEE-yond, whether it’s through service or simply just attending my DCMs! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! Division 21, because of all of your hard work at the DCM, you were able to bring smiles to 60 kids in third world countries all around the world this holiday season! Great job! Lastly, I would like to remind all clubs to check the deadlines coming up soon! JANUARY 24TH is the most important one! If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to ask me! As always, I am at your service! Stay warm! With Love & Service,

Selina Nguyen

PNW Lieutenant Governor of Division 21 Key Club

A WORD FROM YOUR DIVISIONAL EXECUTIVE BOARD DIVISION 21 | PNW

Hello there Bumblebees! ARE YOU EXCITED FOR DCON?? Well if you are… You're not the only one! I am equally, if not even more, excited as you are because of how amazing this event is! But remember, you will HAVE to complete all registration by January 24th in order to attend! BEE sure you hold your club elections prior to the DCON registration deadline so that your club officers can get trained at DCON! Can't wait to see all of your lovely faces at the December DCM/LTG Election Rally! XOXO – Jessica Bae, Divisional Executive Assistant Bruh? Why aren’t you going to the December DCM? Hey Key Clubbers!! I hope you are all doing well! Now, I’m just going to be straight up with you guys, you better be going to the Dec. DCM… Cuz if you don’t, then Selina will be very disappointed because this is her third to last DCM with us all… So go!! And if you don’t, then you’re not that cool… But if you do, than you’re cooler than a Iced Mocha on Christmas! (It’s funny if you work at Starbucks…) ANYWAY! Be there or be rectangular! See you guys soon, and keep up the good work! Agape, love you, high five and other things people do when they say goodbye! – Kohta Hansen, Divisional Executive Assistant

BEE sure to come to the DCM to meet the next King/Queen Bee!

Hi Bumblebees! The end of the Key Club year is coming up soon! It’s almost been a year! One important event coming up is Club Elections! Elections should be done within the first two weeks of January. This way, officers will get the chance to get trained at DCON. Also, DCON is coming up and we would love to see your designs for pins! Lastly, the December DCM is coming up. That’s when we will elect our new LTG. There will also be a White Elephant to lighten up the mood! That is all for now! Buzz Buzz! – Thinh Do, Divisional Secretary Did your club submit their Secretary Reports on time this month?

WHAT IS THE ELIMINATE PROJECT? With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This deadly disease steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

WHAT IS MNT? MNT is Maternal Neonatal Tetanus. MNT is caused when tetanus spores, found in soil everywhere, come into contact with open cuts during childbirth. The disease strikes the poorest of the poor, the geographically hard to reach and those without health care.

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN Hospitals) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids while increasing awareness of its member hospitals. All CMN Hospitals contributions directly benefit hospitals, helping to purchase up-to-date equipment, train staff, conduct life-saving research, implement outreach programs and provide health care for children whose parents can’t afford to pay. HOW DOES KEY CLUB HELP? In 1997, Key Club made Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals preferred charity for its members to support.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. March of Dimes was founded by our 32nd President, Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the fight against polio. After the discovery of the polio vaccine, March of Dimes focused their efforts to improve the health of babies and has been successful with the help and enthusiasm of many grassroots volunteers. HOW DOES KEY CLUB HELP? Since 1978, Key Clubs have hosted fundraising and awareness programs to support the March of Dimes, raising over $116,000 through fundraisers in 2011 alone! UNICEF, the only organization of the United Nations dedicated exclusively to children, works with other United Nations bodies, governments and nongovernmental organizations to assist in children’s needs through communitybased services in primary health care, basic education, and safe water and sanitation in more than 150 developing countries. HOW DOES KEY CLUB HELP? Since 1994, Key Club has been Trick Or Treating for UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. The Glacier Peak High School Key Club helped out at the Santa Village in Snohomish this month, which was a huge success! About thirty Key Clubbers got together to decorate and clean up for this event. We put up and took down Christmas decorations and many kids got to meet Santa and see the amazing decorations we hung up. Thanks to all the Key Clubbers who participated and made Santa Village a memorable experience! – Jasmine Sheena 11

One of the major events for JHS Key Club this month was the "Prayer Shawls/Quilts“! It was a huge success! We partnered up with Providence Hospital by making pillows for terminally ill patients. Our members made 60+ pillows in 2 hours. We all had a GREAT time making these pillows and they were all given to patients in hospitals! As always, thank you to everyone who came out and helped make them! Y'all are THE best!! – Vania Park

Kamiak Key Club went to Annie’s Kitchen as a group with our music service club, Tri M. Jackson Key Club was there too. The Tri M Club played music and our Key Club served food! It was really fun because we were able to bond with other Key Clubbers and Tri-M! We are planning to go again next week! All of our Key Clubbers loved this event! – Esther Lee

This month the Lake Stevens Key Club has been focusing on service projects related to the holidays. At the end of November, our club delivered Thanksgiving dinner baskets to families in need in Lake Stevens with the Kiwanis members. Currently, the club is running the giving tree, which includes making hundreds of tags, sorting gifts, and keeping the gifts organized until they are delivered to the Lake Stevens Family Center right before winter break. – Ambur Staab

November was a very busy and productive month for the Lynnwood Key Club. In celebration of Kiwanis family month, we assisted our Kiwanis in their recent food drive, and raised over 1, 500 nonperishable food items that were donated to the Lynnwood Food Bank. Additionally, our club took part in a wonderful opportunity to clean up our local beach, Meadowdale Beach Park. Our Key Clubbers and Kiwanis collected over 20 bags full of English Ivy. Everyone worked very hard! Go bees! – James Lee 13

Our major volunteer project in November was tie blanket making! In total we made 8 tie blankets for the Cocoon House Shelter, which was twice as many blankets we made last year! Our Key Clubbers loved this project! We'll be sure to continue this project again next year! – Honglam Van
