Bikin’ to the Beach Results

We raised a total of $449.36! Camas High school raised the most with $90 and will be rewarded with an icecream party courteous of Union High School. Thanks to all who donated!

Money donated will be sent to help fund Doernbecher’s Children’s Cancer Program. This money puts future doctors through medical school to develop new methods of eradicating this disease. “Fifty years ago, most children with leukemia lived less than one year, and almost none survived. Now, thanks to advances made at research and teaching hospitals like Doernbecher, most children with leukemia reach adulthood, cured of their disease.” -Kiwanis-kccp.org

Greetings from the Lt. Governor GREETINGS! Time really does fly in the blink of an eye! Unfortunately it is now time to say goodbye to our wonderful seniors. We wish you luck on wherever life takes you next and thank you for all your time into shaping our division into what it is today. Remember keyclubbers, Key Club is ever-lasting! We have tons of exciting activities planned for the summer such as our June DCM on the 25th and more. Continue to stay active and keep up the amazing work!

Monthly Goals First of all, enjoy your summer! It’s good to take a break every once in awhile for some much needed relaxation and fun! Now that we have the summer, it is also a great time to begin planning for next year. Begin goal setting, identifying strengths and weaknesses in your clubs and work towards ways to resolve issues. Our clubs have amazing potential, but the only way to achieve your goals is to get out there and try! In Care and Service, Alyssa Libak

May DCM RECAP

At our Joint Talent Show DCM, acts from all around the Division 44 and Division 45 area came to participate in the event. This was a night for all keyclubbers to exibit a unique side of themselves as well as open up to their Key Club family. Yazmin and Flora took home the first place trophy for their spectacular dance performance. Luna Garcia left with second place and Brittany Nugent with 3rd. All acts did exceptionally well in the Talent show, making our first Joint Talent Show a success!

What’s up with the clubs? Evergreen High School- By Daloun Inthathirath (President) Hey Key Clubbers! After strenuously volunteering at Dozer Day, Evergreen's Key Club had some fun in the sun volunteering at Harmony Elementary's school fair! Also, we look forward to the upcoming foster kids BBQ on June 23rd! Although the school year may be coming to an end, our service to the community with continue to thrive.

Camas High School- By Brittany Nugent (President) Hello Key Clubbers! This month we have and have had some very exciting events! Thus far, we have had volunteers at the academic and awards night. At the awards night (June 1st), volunteers helped set up, decorate, and welcome guests to the lovely event as well as pass out certificates, then assist with clean-up. For June 1st, and 2nd members helped out with senior boards, jobs included being a welcomer, "tour guide", and to assist with check in. Furthermore, we've had volunteers attend the oh-so fun First Friday in downtown Camas! For this event tasks included being an event assistant and running errands as needed, working the craft stations, and helping set up, and close down of the many stations at this event. We also offer two fantastic carnivals volunteers can assist with (always one of the most fun type of event!) including working a multitude of game stations, crafts, set up and take down, as well as being an event assistant, helping where needed. In addition, we have volunteers attending the summer reading program booths to enroll kids, teens, and adults into the great reading program at the Camas Library, this event is one of which runs from June until August and is a GREAT opportunity for volunteers!

Mountain View- By Karen Gong (President) Hi Key Clubbers! For the month of June, Mountain View will be helping out at the annual Fisher’s Landing Elementary Carnival on Saturday, January 11th. Key Clubbers have participated in the carnival for many years and will help run carnival games, hand out prizes, and set up and take down the booths. Mountain View Key Clubbers will also help out at the Foster’s Children’s Picnic on June 23rd. Members will help set up, serve food, run games, and more at the picnic. The month of June is very laid back for MVHS Key Club and will bring the year of service to a nice close! Heritage- By Ernesto Zurita (President) Hey Key Clubbers! For the month of June we have ended our school year service with members volunteering at a carnival at Sifton Elementary on June 3rd, which was attended by a good number of members. We had our last meeting on June 7th and said goodbye to our seniors who constituted a majority of our club membership. We will be focusing this month on preparing our new Key Club advisor, Natalie Brusseau, for the upcoming school year. Our officers will be making a new change to our club: providing volunteering opportunities to our ongoing members during the summer and we will be looking to our End of the Year Survey responses to figure out how to carry this plan out.

Club Spotlight On March 21st and 22nd, Key Clubbers from HeLa High School set out to give kids an enjoyable experience by hosting concessions, handing out goodies for the kids, and assisting with the dozers! Thank you HeLa for spending 5 hours out in the heat to brighten a kid’s day!

HeLa High school also participated in the MS Walk to support people diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis (MS). It is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Great job HeLa Key Clubbers!

Member of the Month

“I would like to nominate Emily Jennings for stepping up and covering volunteer shifts when someone backs out. I admire her commitment to the club because even though she was busy with her internship, she still made sure to show up to the events. She is always friendly towards all members in the club, and deserves this nomination! By: Daloun Inthathirath Evergreen High school club President

June DCM When? June 25th from 11:00am12:30pm

Vandalism

Where? Burnt Bridge Creek. Vancouver WA 98663

Harmful material in water

No fish in streams

Invasive blackberries

Adopt a Park- By Kelly Nguyen Adopt-a-Park program is run by student volunteers who are willing to “adopt a section of a park/trail and working to make it a better place for the public to enjoy as well as to restore the ecosystem. One of the goals of Adopt a Park is to bring fish back into the streams of BBC (Burnt Bridge Creek Trail). That can be done by planting trees (preferably native plants) surrounding the water and removing trash. The trees will keep the water cool while also preventing people from entering it and stirring up soil. Another goal would be to mark and remove public vandalization. Any graffiti found will be marked and covered for other volunteers of the organization to remove. These are only a few among other things that will be done to promote a cleaner environment that can be the basis for ecosystem restoration. We need your help Keyclubbers!

Our New District project is Kiwanis Children’s Cancer Program, better known as KCCP. Over the course of this coming year, we have made it our mission to raise $75,000 towards this cause to give doctors the training they need to become the future doctors of the world. “Children’s cancer affects many families. Thousands of children are diagnosed with cancer each year, and with the help of research their chances of surviving have more than tripled. KCCP hopes to be a part of finding a cure. Not only will this benefit children it will benefit all cancer patients worldwide. Remember the research of adult cancers does nothing to help cure children’s cancer, but the research of children’s cancers does help find the cure of adult cancers.” -Kiwanis-kccp.org
