KEY CLUB & KIWANIS: A POWERFUL TEAM The unique service partnership between Key Clubs and Kiwanis has existed for over 90 years. Although Key Club is a student-led organization, each of the thirteen local Key Clubs is sponsored by one of the five local Kiwanis Clubs. As sponsors, Kiwanians assist with chartering new clubs, provide Kiwanis Advisors, and frequently offer financial support for students to attend District Convention (DCON) and Key Leader. At Key Club meetings, it is helpful to introduce Kiwanis Advisors to members and share that they are there to support your Key Club and sometimes offer important background information on service initiatives. Our shared love of service unites Key Club and Kiwanis members with powerful results. Last year, the PNW Key Club District raised over $79,000 for Project Eliminate. Local Kiwanis Clubs have been working for the past five years in the international Kiwanis effort to raise $110 million to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus. Skyview Key Club received national recognition at DCON for their Salvation Army bell-ringing efforts. In partnership with ITech Prep Key Club and Salmon Creek Kiwanis, they raised over $14,000. Both Skyview and ITech Prep Key Clubs often volunteer at the annual concerts sponsored by Salmon Creek. Mountain View Key Club teams, assisted by several Cascade Park Kiwanis members, volunteer every year for two days at the Portland Marathon. Prairie and Hockinson Key Clubs provide readers for the Battle Ground Kiwanis Dr. Seuss event. Cascade Park Kiwanians deeply appreciate the contributions of the HeLa, Mountain View, Camas, Union, and Evergreen Key Clubs on numerous projects including baby food drives, foster children’s parties, our garage sale, and the Fall Festival of Service. The possibilities for joint service projects are endless. Explore additional ways in which your sponsoring Kiwanis Clubs can assist with your service projects. If you are hosting a car wash or fundraiser at a local restaurant, notify your Kiwanis Advisor so that they can support these events. Visit a Kiwanis meeting where Key Club members often receive a free meal while they learn more about Kiwanis. Several local Kiwanis Clubs offer scholarships. Additional benefits are that Kiwanis members may be able to provide insights on professional careers and write letters of recommendation for college applicants. We truly are K-Family, and strengthening our partnership in service enables all of us to better serve the children of our world.

More on Division 44 Kiwanis Fort Vancouver Kiwanis-By Jack Anderson

Fort Vancouver Kiwanis has the distinction of being the first Kiwanis Club established in Clark County. Our club was chartered in the fall of 1922 . . . just seven years after the first Kiwanis Club was formed. We have a rich history of supporting many different programs benefiting children and the community over the near 94 years. We currently meet at Tommy O’s Restaurant each Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. In addition to the many service programs we support . . . Fort Vancouver Kiwanis sponsors three high school Key Clubs. They are Fort Vancouver High School’s Key Club, Evergreen High School’s Key Club and Columbia River High School’s Key Club. It is our interest to strengthen the relationship between our Kiwanis Club and the Key Club’s we sponsor. To that end . . . we would like to encourage a greater coordination between our respective clubs. There are numerous opportunities for Fort Vancouver Kiwanis to work with the three Key Clubs we sponsor. We have fundraisers scheduled for the near term which we would very much appreciate Key Club Members to help support our community and to assist in generating funds to support their activities.

Greetings from the Lieutenant Governor GREETINGS 44! Over the month of April I had the privilege of leading the division at our April DCM. I thought I was already in love with our division but the more time I get to spend with each and everyone of you, the more I fall deeper into my love for Key club. As summer approaches, lets make the most out of our last few months together at our home clubs, and appreciate all you’ve done for the community and the world around us. Be proud of all you’ve accomplished, and look forward to another eventful year of Key club that’s just around the corner. For more Divisional fun, stop by our next DCM in May!

Monthly Goals Hello Key-Clubbers! Now that our school year is reaching an end, it s time to tie up loose ends and volunteer our hearts out until June comes along! Over these next few months, clubs should begin goal setting for next year and trying new and exciting ways to make club meetings informational and enjoyable to all Key Club members. Great job to all those newly elected officers that are just getting the hang of how to run a club, and members for making up everything Key club has come to be! In Care and Service, Alyssa Libak

At our April DCM, tons of key-clubbers from all over our 7 schools joined together for exciting icebreakers and informational updates, followed by a gigantic potluck! Overall this DCM served for a get-to-know-you event to join our division together.

What’s up with the clubs? Evergreen High School- By Daloun Inthathirath (President) We successfully Marched for Babies on the last day of April, and had a great effort in raising donations! Now that it is May, not only are we slaying AP tests, but we are also looking forward to participating in Dozer Day on the 21st and 22nd of the month. Even if you aren't volunteering, we hope you show up as it will be an extremely fun event!

Camas High School- By Brittany Nugent (President) May has been a very eventful month for Camas' key club thus far! We have had many wonderful events of which I hope spark some ideas for future key club events in district 44! This past weekend we have had volunteers for the Downtown Camas First Friday event with this months theme as “Garden Gnome Gala”! Here, volunteers could help with either the raffle, craft, clean up, or set up stations as well as provide as event assistants! In addition to this weekends events, he have had the plant and garden fair in downtown camas, were volunteers assist with set up, event assistance, and clean-up. Additionally, we have too had volunteers assist with preparing, organizing and the clean-up and event services at the Camas Public Library's book sale! Coming up we have Bikin' to the Beach on the 14th, as well as the Helen Baller Elementary Carnival, and on the 31st, CHS has called for volunteers to assist with senior boards. That wraps things up for our current May events, have a fantastic day everyone! 14

Mountain View- By Karen Gong (President) In the month of May, Mountain View will be volunteering at many events! On the first of May, Key Clubbers attended the fourth annual Bridge the Gap Champagne Brunch to help the event run smoothly. Bridge the Gap is an amazing program that helps enrich the lives of foster children in the Clark and Skamania Counties. On Thursday May 12th, Mountain View Key Club will be holding a fundraiser at the Burgerville on 164th and McGillivray from 4:00-8:00PM to raise money for the Kiwanis Doernbecher’s Children Cancer Program and Bikin’ to the Beach! On Friday the 13th, Mt. View Key Clubbers will be helping out at Riverview’s Annual Carnival where they will be interacting with the kids by running games, handing out prizes and more. The next day, Saturday the 14th, some Key Clubbers will be participating in the Bikin’ to the Beach race for KDCCP. The 21st of May will be the last volunteer crafts event at the library for this school year. Key Clubbers will be helping the kids make Under the Sea crafts, such as jellyfish out of crepe paper, shark hats and more! Finally, the last event for May for Mountain View will be the Clark County Food Bank Repacking on the 24th. May will definitely be a great event-filled month that will end our school year nicely!

Presenting, the May newsletter member of the month‌

Bilal Manzer

Hey Key Clubbers, I joined Key Club at the beginning of my freshman year after hearing about it from my older sisters. I had been exposed to it once prior to my freshman year when helping my sister fundraise for Trick-or-treat for UNICEF but still had no idea what it was all about. After attending a few meetings, I was still skeptical on whether or not I wanted to be a part of the club. When I started volunteering and attending events, I was amazed at how friendly people were and the warm environment Key Club offered. I then became an active member being involved in any way I could. But not until attending DCMs, area rallies, and DCON did I realize the true spirit and impact Key Club has on everyone. In caring and service, Bilal Manzer

New additions to PNW Board Hey PNW District Key Clubbers, I’m Tiffany Wong and am thrilled to be serving you all as your District Secretary. Since stepping into Key Club, I’ve always strived to establish personal connections with each individual. It’s a value that I continue carrying on today, and I hope to provide connection and communication for every secretary. My goals are to recognize secretaries on a monthly basis for their continuous efforts, to share advice and tips for officers, and to provide higher platforms of member input all over the district. Serving as a friend, not as a superior, has always been my focus, and I hope to continue that idea in what I do. I’m excited to work with you as friend who can assist you in any way possible, so please never hesitate to contact me! In Caring and Service, Tiffany Wong

Meet the District Board Hello Pacific Northwest District Key Clubbers, My name is Juliet Yu and I’m your 2016-2017 District Governor. I am both honored and thrilled to serve alongside the PNW District Board and with caring leaders like you! Being apart of Key Club has been one of the best experiences in my life and I can’t wait to continue this in our Pacific Northwest District! For our journey together, I truly believe this year will be one of the greatest the Pacific Northwest District has ever seen. By taking the steps of Service, Unity and a Kiwanis Family plan, we will see the heart of Key Club, connection of our district, and reminders of our past/inspirations for our future. One of my mottos in life is “We over Me.” We together are equals in creating an impact and change for this year and beyond. It’s not about me, myself or I. We are all Key Clubbers with passion of calling Key Club our adventure. So please feel free to message me anytime via email, Facebook message or phone on any questions you have or if you want to talk. Juliet Yu In love and service, Juliet Yu

Greetings Pacific Northwest District, I'm Amy Hung and I will be your Convention Chair for the 2016-2017 service year. Through my experiences, I plan to make DCON 2017 an even greater DCON than the year before. A goal of mine for Convention is to increase attendance and to strengthen workshops for all attendees. From serving as a member, club officer, Convention Aide, and now Convention Chair, I have learned that us Key Clubbers, all have the same objective. We all work together to make a difference in our home, schools, and communities. Like the great Troy Bolton once said, “we’re all in this together!” If you have questions about this upcoming District Convention, please feel free to contact me through Facebook, text, call, or email!
