Matthew Gospe- Hockinson HS

MEMBER OF THE MONTH I've chosen Matthew Gospe as Key Club member of the month for his positive attitude, involvement, and kind qualities. Matt has been a devoted member of the Key Club family since his Sophomore year, and has since then volunteered his time at countless events, and often goes above and beyond to recruit his peers to join him in an effort to make our local community a better place. In addition to being an exemplary service member, Matt is also and exemplary student, boasting a high density of AP courses, and maintaining a very impressive 4.0 GPA, unweighted. Matt is a natural born leader, and a great friend to many students at Hockinson. Whether it be homework help, or lending a helping hand with events or other service projects, Matthew is always standing by with a smile, eager to help in any way he can. - Chase Benson Hockinson Key Club President

September DCM! During our September DCM we did a service project for the Kiwanis Children's Cancer Program.

We made cute little pillow hearts, that have pockets to hold get well cards. Many members came and we made a total of 19 hearts to give to the program!

I would like to thank all the members who were in attendance. And those of you who brought many supplies for the occasion. I hope to see you all hopefully at the next DCM!

Major Emphasis & Preferred Charities “Children: Their Future, Our Focus Unicef is a organization of the United Nations dedicated for the children. And works with the governments all over the world to assist the children with needs in their community, that mostly involve health care, basic education and safe water and sanitation. Key Club since 1994has been trick or treating for Unicef and over the years have raised over 5 million dollars for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDs programs.

Since 1978, Key Clubs have been making a difference for babies everywhere. Key Clubbers all around the country help when they host service projects and fundraise about the March of Dimes in their communities, spreading the word about the crisis of preterm birth. And of course honoring those 15 million babies that were born too soon due to the birth defects and premature birth.

The children's miracle network organizations raises money to help hospitalized kids. The contributions that are given to this organization helps pay for up to date equipment and train the staff are needed to help the kids. The contributions also provide health care for the children whose parents cant afford it. Seven hundred seventy hospitals affiliated with the children's miracle network hospitals. Show your K in every way—Show people what Key Club is all about! Spread the word by wearing Key Club gear and publicizing Key Club Week in local stores, your school Web site, community newspapers—even on the radio. Officially announce Key Club Week in your community with a proclamation and refer to the Key Club public relations manual to get great tips on how to publicize Key Club in your community.

Kudos to the Key players—Personally thank all the Key Club supporters you know—teachers, advisors and other Key players. Write thank-you notes, host an appreciation dinner or do something uniquely your own style to recognize the contributions of these special people.

18

Dare to Care—Key Club has three preferred charities—UNICEF, March of Dimes and Children's Miracle Network. Take time to focus on service projects that help support these causes such as making non-slip socks or capes for your local CMN hospital.

Random Acts of Kindness—A smile goes a long way. Spread happiness throughout your school by doing little random acts of kindness such as leaving cards with inspirational messages on every students locker or just simply holding the door for someone else. Challenge every member to complete at least one random act of kindness.

Connect the Ks—Key Club is the largest high school service organization in the world and is a member of the Kiwanis family. Celebrate the entire family of Kiwanis by getting the whole gang involved. Connect with local Kiwanis, Circle K International, Builders, Kiwanis Kids or Aktion clubs and team up for a joint service project.
