Sequim Worship Center

Sunday Service: 10:45 a.m. 640 N. Sequim Avenue • 683-7981 Rev. David L. Westman www.sequimworshipcenter.org “Sharing Good News from the edge of the Olympic Mountains to the Ends of the Earth.”

Sequim Worship Center As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10-11 (NIV) If you are anything like me you’ve probably had enough snow to last you for the next 30 years. We tend to view things by how they affect us in the moment. I find it interesting that the Bible indicates that God takes the long term perspective. I tended to see the snow as an interference to my current plans. In Isaiah, God says that the snow and rain are part of the growth cycle for the earth. My future meals come as a result of my current inconvenience. The next time I take a bite of my favorite pie I need to remember that the fruit and flour that went into its baking came as a result of some past rain or snow and be thankful for the result of the past challenge. It should also remind me to look forward to whatever God plans to do in my current challenges as well. If

we desire to grow, as people or in our faith, we must expect to experience change. God uses the new things in our life to bring about the growth he desires. How we respond to those changes determines the rate and level of the growth we enjoy. Resist or refuse those changes and we remain stagnant or regress. Embrace and pursue them and find growth and maturity. Contrary to popular hope or belief, maturity has less to do with age and more to do with our willingness to embrace the new things God brings into our lives. Embracing the news things is a terrific opportunity for us to travel together on a journey of discovery. We would love to have you join us at Sequim Worship Center as we journey together towards God’s purpose for our lives.

Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church is a caring community of Christians called to reach out to all people in our community and, the world. Jesus showed us the gracious love of God for all people. We are called to do the same by helping others here and throughout the world and extending ourselves to each other as a church family. Our worship is Christ-centered in the Lutheran tradition of emphasis on the Sunday Gospel and music. Sermons are original and based on Bible scholarship. We offer Christian education that is challenging and thought-provoking. Our book discussion groups are stimulating, and video presentations

help us better understand the history and values of the Christian life. We work tirelessly with local organizations to share God’s love. Our congregation helps with and supports the Sequim Food Bank, Lutheran Community Services, Sequim Health and Wellness Clinic and other community organizations. We open our facilities for AA, NA and Al-Anon meetings, Clallam MOSAIC, and other community organizations. Handmade quilts, school kits and baby kits are distributed through Lutheran World Relief. Faith Lutheran Church of Sequim We are a member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. We believe and teach that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. The Word of God teaches that we are all conceived and born sinful and are under the power of the devil until Christ claims us as his own. We would be lost forever unless delivered from sin, death and everlasting condemnation. But the Father of all mercy and grace has sent His Son, Jesus Christ, who atoned for the sin of the whole world, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. Faith Lutheran Church and Preschool exist to help people find meaning, purpose and direction throughout life as we journey through life on our way to eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ. Our many and varied ministries exist to give practical strength, direction and help to real people who live their lives daily with spouses, family, school and work.

Our church is served by our pastors, the Rev. Steven Eaton and the Rev. Roger Stites. Our preschool staff assists parents to see that their children receive a solid education that is Christ-centered. Our youth groups have activities for people from infancy through adulthood. Our Bible study classes are varied, offered not only on Sundays but throughout the week as well. Our music programs and choirs cover the entire spectrum of interests and ages. Our worship features very practical and liferelated teaching and strengthening from indepth study of the Scriptures and worship featuring two thousand years of Christian tradition and depth. At Faith Lutheran Church there is something for everyone, regardless of age and interests. Our staff and people are accessible and here to help. We invite you to come visit and ask questions. Join us for worship at 8:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. every Sunday!

1. As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life. 2. We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God’s image and likeness. 3. We acknowledge God’s forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts. 4. We acknowledge Jesus’ atonement as the evidence of divine, efficacious Love, unfolding man’s unity with God through Christ Jesus the Wayshower; and we acknowledge that man is saved through Christ, through Truth, Life, and Love as demonstrated by the Galilean Prophet in healing the sick and overcoming sin and death. 5. We acknowledge that the crucifixion of Jesus and his resurrection served to uplift faith to understand eternal Life, even the allness of Soul, Spirit, and the nothingness of matter. 6. And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure. * From the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy. We are Spirit Expressing as Lives Transforming for Good!

Five Unity Principles GOD IS – There is only One Presence and One Power in the Universe and in my life: God the Good, Omnipotence. I AM – We are Spiritual Beings created in God’s Image. The Spirit of God lives in each person, therefore, all people are inherently good. I Think – We create our perception of our life experiences through our thinking and feeling. I Pray – There is Divine Power in meditation and affirmative prayer which increases our awareness of our oneness with God. I Live It – Knowing and Understanding is important; AND Practice what you learn; Teach what you know.

to the ends of the earth; to make disciples of all nations.

We believe God is a Holy Trinity – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Christ institut-

ed seven Sacraments, which bring us God’s grace, and that as children of God, we are saved by grace, through faith.

The origin of our Catholic Faith and belief comes from Holy Scripture, Holy Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Church. The Eucharist, Holy Communion, is the source and summit of our Catholic Faith. The Catholic community of Port Angeles built their first church in 1891. That building

was sold to the County in 1892 for use as the courthouse during the downtown reconstruction period. Queen of Angels Parish has been at its present location at 11th and Oak Street Streets since 1950. At the time “The Holy Angels Church” in Port Angeles was established, the Sequim area was considered part of that parish. A mission church was built in 1916; in 1966 a new mission church was erected; and in 1976, after 60 years as a mission church, St. Joseph was established as a full parish. In July 2011 the two parishes were appointed a single pastor to oversee each parish, and one year later a regional staffing model was implemented with one administrative staff for the two parishes. Today, the two parishes remain separate entities with their own identities, continuing to work as part of the universal Church by combining efforts on committees, consistency in policies, a single weekly bulletin, and joint celebration of Sacraments, etc.
