Swindon Designer Outlet Centre TIAA Henderson Real Estate, managed by McArtherGlen This English Heritage grade two star listed building at the edge of Swindon town centre has been enlarged and re-energised after a period of 15 successful years trading. POD worked on the project from conception, after winning a competition set by the clients in 2009, and a successful planning permission was achieved in 2013. POD worked closely with English Heritage and the Conservation Department to design a successful retail solution which integrated a disused Grade 2* Listed building into the existing Centre. Many additional design features were

3

developed within the Centre to modernise the spaces and bring exciting new solutions to the malls. The project adds to the wider regeneration of Swindon and acts as a catalyst for the town’s future. The outcome has a contemporary finish that has a duality with the industrial past becoming a destination shopping centre for a wide catchment area. The project was shortlisted at BCSC (British Council of Shopping Centres) Gold Awards 2015.

The Strand Retail Centre, Bulgaria TPI Burgas Situated on the black sea coast of Bulgaria, The Strand open air mall was completed in summer 2013. The Strand was inspired by the atmosphere of the open street, rather than an enclosed mall, it bridges the gap between historic streetscape and contemporary shopping lifestyle. The shopping centre is the first of its kind in the country and utilises the favourable climatic conditions to develop an open street mall. Since its opening, The Strand was shortlisted for

5

‘Building of the Year’, and has been nominated for numerous prestigious awards nationally. The project was listed as one of the ten most innovative projects for shopping centre’s in Europe at the Cannes, international retail property market. The building houses 700- space ground level car park, Multiplex cinema, Gym, Restaurants and Fashion retail units totalling over 28,000 Sq.M of retail space.

114 Draycott AVEnue Charrlotte Olympia 114 Draycott Ave is the new flagship store for ‘Charlotte Olympia’ located in the highly sought out borough of Chelsea, in the trendy neighbourhood of Brompton Cross.

The new design transformed its previous restaurant usage through the reorganisation of the layout and application of the style, brand and glamour that Charlotte Olympia is famous for.

The 150 Sq. M store features ‘blush pink walls’ and ‘midcentury-inspired furnishings’, such as a pink and gold lozenge-shaped seating area with pale wood herringbone floor, and brass panels that accentuate the shoes on display. There are now 10 stores for the brand globally, London, Bangkok to California.

The store first exhibited its pre-fall collection that takes inspiration from artists like Wassily Kandinsky and Salvador Dalí. The store also has an exclusive collection, inspired by its London location.

14 Dover Street mcQ BY Alexander McQueen 14 Dover Street is the new flagship store for ‘Alexander McQueen’ located in the conversation area of Westminster, Mayfair. The 450 Sq.M store places Dover Street as part of the alternative counter culture fashion route to supplement Bond Street. The combination of old and new is a key theme in the project to compliment the work by the late Alexander McQueen. A key challenge for POD was to celebrate the existing fabric of the building whilst delivering

9

a strong aesthetic suitable for the McQueen brand. This was achieved by having a focus on the complexity of the existing language, and the raw simplicity of the new insertions.

chongqing masterplan Chongqing, china POD were invited to participate in an international closed competition in Chongqing, China, to revive a disused steel rolling factory into a new large scale mixed-use development. The proposal included retail units, offices, hotels, industrial museum and a public space strategy to locate the development into the wider fabric. The retails acts as a circuit of attractive shopping that supports the museum, exhibition, hotel, residential and office buildings. The circuit is a carefully controlled route that is an experience

11

of environments, surprise buildings and leisurely public landscapes. The entire concept attempts to create an event and experience to attract visitors. This engagement can be educational, playful and commercial.
