CONTEXT – WHAT THE TOWN ACTUALLY OFFERS?
Neglected girivalam path – which is one of the most important heritage corridor of the state and the binding element which connects several hundred temple and ashrams while retaining the focus towards the hill.
lacks a PROPER SELLING platform for the local artisan, rural community and skilled workers to work and display, sell their indigenous art pieces in a space which experiences heavy footfall.
Lack of sacred architectural spaces which enhances the spiritual experience of the users, Source : ekalokam photography, wikipedia
DUE TO LACK OF A CUMULATIVE SELLING PLATFORM, encroachments of shops and TEMPORARY commercial OUTLETS. Squatters and slums along the path that causes visual pollution in the landscape setting and disregard for the sanctity of the mountain which have led to the loss of such wholistic experience one could derive from the site.

AIM - ISSUES
Town
No proper selling platform for us, No proper workspace. We depend on pilgrimage tourism for our income
14 km stretch
Traditional craftworks are being exploited by foreign tourists, No awareness about traditional handmade artisan products. No cultural center or display area to showcase our artisan skill
Loss of flora, fauna. Loss of scared cape. lack of proper waste and garbage disposal. Forest fire, pollution due to use of camphor, plastics during rituals Arunachala temple starting/termination point of procession
Arunachala hill
SITE – Gateway to a Diminishing character of the stretch due to commercialization. True context and history of the place is not reflected in the girivalam stretch.
cluster of traditional villages , mid point of processional route
