Jones sets the bar high with new record (Part 2)
(This is a continuation from part 1)
Jones had this to say about the pole vault club, “I started there after soccer season in the fall… VaultWorX is really nice because you can compete in big meets, get great support and, of course, the coaches are really good.” She appreciates what she gains from being a part of this group, and hopes to continue growing under the auspices of this group.
Also worthy of mention at the event was Thelma Davies. She is a sprinter and freshman (at Girard College), and she was absolutely triumphant with not one, but two AA state records in the 100m dash and the 200m race. This accomplishment will cement her name in the PIAA record books. In the 100m dash, she crossed the line after just 11.58 seconds. As for the 200m, she ran an impressive 23.85 seconds. One can only imagine what her ultimate achievements in the sport will be.

Another high achiever of the day’s events was Chanel Brissett, representing Cheltenham. She, too, broke a record. Her record though, was in the AAA 100 meter hurdles, in which she ran 13.19 seconds. This is a fantastic achievement for her. That was not all that her school walked away with on that day. It had other athletes in the 4 x 100 meter race who also broke a record by running it in 45.78 seconds.
As if the records at the event weren’t enough, there was yet another occurrence of a record breaking effort. This was yet another relay record. However, this was in the 4 x 400 meter race, and it was Penn Wood’s team that grabbed that record with a time of about 3 minutes 42 seconds and 67 milliseconds.
As for the teams as a whole, two teams emerged as the ultimate champions: Hickory and Cheltenham (AAA. Hickory snapped up the AA title after accumulating 48 points. Avonworth finished in a close second position with 46 points. Cheltenham were able to win with a points total of 48, which was significantly higher than that of the position two team, State College, which scored 32 points.
