Rocky treads the path laid beforehand by his sister
Rocky Cauble is a junior track and field athlete at Lincoln Southeast. He comes from a family that has a past in track and field; jumpers to be more exact. It would seem easy and natural to assume that Cauble would follow suit. However, he saw a different opportunity arise before him, courtesy of his sister, Mikaela. Pole vault would be the sport that captures his attention. In 2012 and 2013, Mikaela qualified for state (Southeast) as a pole vaulter.
On May 21st, 2016, Cauble will be participating in the pole vault event at the Omaha Burke Stadium meet. He is in the Class A pole vault. His reputation suggests it will be a fruitful outing for him. There will be a couple of eyes on him, so he is sure to bring his best vaulting poles, good luck charms (if he has them), and more importantly, his Agame.
Rocky says about his sister, “[she got me started when I was pretty young using a broomstick at home… she made me go to practice with her and basically told me ‘You’re going to learn this.’ Now I’m glad she did.’’ The two have a stepbrother, Jeff, who was a long jumper. Jeff was the gold medalist (all-class) in 1989, when he was with the Knights. He then moved on to compete for the Nebraska team.
Ken Cauble, their father, was also a jumper. He was a champion of high jump at Nebraska, where he was also basketballer. He then went on to be the chief police at UNL. Unfortunately, Ken passed away due to ALS in the year 2004, when Rocky was only 5 years old.
Jeff had this to say about Rocky: “He really took to it (the pole vault) and now he’s a total stud…we’re excited for him.” Jeff and Rocky inherited their father’s height. Rocky stands at a height of 6 feet and 3 inches, and he is learning how to utilize that height to his advantage.
