Poland is one of the largest countries in Europe, a modern and dynamic member of the European Union, where education really matters. It is situated in the middle of the European continent, at the crossroads between West and East.
Poland is an ideal place not only for studying, but also for travelling. A journey across Poland is a great opportunity to visit historical points of interest, such as monuments and sites listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, see breathtaking landscapes of the mountains, sea, lakes and woods, as well as experience Polish cuisine and hospitality. Compared to other EU countries, the cost of living is a fraction of what a foreign student would have to spend in most of other European countries.

Upper Silesia in brief The Upper Silesia region lies in the basin of two rivers: the Vistula and the Odra, in the southern part of Poland. It borders with the Slovak and the Czech Republics in the south. It has the highest population density in the country with almost 5 million inhabitants. The Upper Silesia is full of positive energy, drawing on ethnic, cultural and tourist diversity. Owing to the dynamic development of the industry and the application of the latest technology advancements, the Upper Silesia region became known throughout Europe in the 18th century. Thanks to the industrial development there are a lot of very interesting places to visit here. Many of them are included in the Industrial Monuments Route.

The main seat of SUT is in Gliwice, a charming, 800-year-old city and an important scientific, research and design centre in Poland. Gliwice has nearly 200 000 inhabitants and thanks to the SUT it is the second (next to Warsaw) agglomeration of technical skills and knowledge. Over the last 20 years, Gliwice has transformed from the city based on a heavy industry into the leader in new technologies. Gliwice is also well known for its cultural life. Many festivals, concerts, exhibitions and other art activities take place in the town. Many famous Polish artists and other interesting people (e.g. the inventor of the Nivea cream) originally come from Gliwice.
The results of surveys show that Gliwice is one of the most attractive cities to live and study in Poland. It is definitely a unique place, where tradition, multicultural heritage, science and modernity intermingle, creating its one-of-a-kind atmosphere.

For one semester I had courses at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science. In the meantime I also did my final project. And I’m proud to say that I completed everything successfully at one of the best technical universities in Poland. The following are the reasons why I love the SUT: • A wide range of courses available; • The quality of the education is very good; • The staff is friendly, helpful and very understanding; • The campus is beautiful; • For Erasmus students there are special Erasmus consultation hours. So if you have questions do not worry, just feel free to ask them during the consultation hours; • The IMO was available for me as an international student whether I had an issue or uncertainty. My stay in Poland was educational and very pleasant. The SUT has a lot of international students and I was able to increase my network. I learned a lot about the Polish culture and the other cultures. Furthermore, I enjoyed the activities that were held for students. My time at the SUT can be seen as one the best things that I experienced. If I ever get the chance to visit Poland again, I will not hesitate.” Suraja Nagesar from Suriname
