Traditionally, due to the role of the function, people in finance earned a nickname of ‘Bean Counters’.
In my working life, I witne ssed ‘Bean Counters’ transforming into ‘Resource Managers’ in addition to being controllers of finance. In 90s, ‘manpower’ got recognised as Human Resource. In some progressive organisations, managing two important resources of business - fund s (finance) and human resource became part of Chief Financial Officer’s responsibility. Roles got changed from record keeping - analysing reporting to improving busin ess results by providing guidance to eliminate inefficiencies and to use resources effectively. This department monitors business activities of an organisation to maintain ‘growth with profits’ for its longterm survival and stakeholder’s (customers, employees, suppliers and investors) prosperity.

The TrueWeigh System measures the mass ow of material into the extrusion process and sends the loss-in-weight information to the TrueWeigh Controller. The controller then accurately monitors and adjusts the extruder screw and/or haul-off speed to maintain consistent yield control.
Applications Served Gravimetric Extrusion Process Control Systems are more often used with single screw, flood-fed extruders in monolayer or co-extrusion application.

Flexible Packaging & Lamination
With unsurpassed control over throughput, film and sheet thickness, layer ratios and more; you operate in a tighter processing window and drive savings right to your bottom line. Think about it. Run a Pipe/Tube or a Multilayer Film Plant at 200 kgs/hr for 20 hrs/day for 300 days a year; TrueWeigh will run your system accurately that you will be able to cut the over-gauge percentage and will save so much that the system cost will be recovered in 3 months itself. After that, your savings continue.

Q. With so many public sector banks being consolidated /merged into larger entities, how does YES Bank make a position for itself? Having rebuilt the trust of our stakeholders & customers, and demonstrating market share gains with digital capabilities, we can exhibit a sustainable performance in line with the strategic objectives we have delineated for ourselves.
Q. The change in the way people manage their accounts / money post COVID-19, your comments. COVID-19 pandemic has literally changed our world in more ways than we could
imagine. It has impacted the way we think. The pandemic has brought significant impact in the way people look at managing their monies, like; NN
People have Started Buying Insurance (Life and Health) - Pandemic has made everyone think about their protection net. Millennials between the age group of 22 and 35 years have better assessment of their protection needs when it

“As regards priorities, this pandemic reiterated one basic principle, which all the finance
professionals know, but have probably forgotten that, ‘Cash is King’. We created different cash forecasting models with sensitivity analysis and we rigorously followed them. This helped immensely,” shares Ajay Wagle, in dialogue with POLYMERS Communiqué.

The undercurrent, reading between the lines and sensing the new direction in
which the country is being steered are issues I shall attempt to take a deep dive into the presented budget.
New World Order First, the budget goes beyond mere economic management of affairs of the
country. It recognises its roles and responsibilities of being on the threshold of becoming a nation state that is ready to occupy a seat on the high table. India shall be the fastest growing economy in the world in 2021-22 (11.5% as per IMF and 12.6% as per OECD).
India will bring succor to millions in and out of the country through mature
management of its vaccine prowess (> 58 million doses sent to 71 countries and
counting). It will be a crucial catalyst in global power structure, most so in Asia-Pacific region (QUAD). The budget outlines a roadmap as to how India shall play its new role in the new world order, responsibly. Shailesh Sheth Corporate Strategy Advisor, Management & Manufacturing Technology, Mumbai

Responsible Super Power The budget envisions India as a strong economic force, a responsible power broker in plurilateral world, a worthy Member of G10 (?) and a country that can contribute substantially in world affairs, be it related to health, energy,
food, water, environment et al, and of course, is also a muscular force to match. Let us see how it attempts to do all of that.

The exciting thing is that availability of funds is not an issue at all...the industry is willing to lap it up if the product is ‘served well’! BEYOND BOUNDARIES
Q. Experience is a big teacher. Please share with us some of your learnings from your 5-decade journey and rich legacy. There are many learnings, but ‘Change is only constant’ is the best learning experience what I can say. If you do
not change with time and market, you are lost. Every day you face a new challenge, new competition, new product range and you just can’t wait, you have to be proactive and respond accordingly.
Q. With the initial start from manufacturing of pipes and conduits to diversification into agriculture, household and electrical segment, what prompted the move? In 1968, my grandfather first started with the foundry unit where we made agriculture related equipment. Later
in 1996, looking at the demand of agri pipes in the same market, we decided to start with that product and here we
diversified into the plastics division. With time, we realised that the economy was rapidly growing and being an agricultural nation, we could see huge potential and hence we kept on adding new products that catered to farmers’ needs. Further looking at the growth in construction industry,
we added plumbing pipes to our product range. During the year 2000, it was very exciting to see plastic household products, which are almost unbreakable, and hence prompted us to diversify into our third vertical which consists

of household range and we named it as ‘Paras Miracle’. We keep adding new products like blow moulded water tanks,
drip irrigation system, garden hose and so on to our basket, which we supplied through our distribution channel.
Q. Having manufactured the entire range of products from pipes, conduits, tanks, household articles, which do you consider the most versatile material for you and why? I feel PVC is most versatile material where its application
is not restricted to one industry. It has very wide area
of application which goes from pipes and fittings to calendaring, packaging, profile windows to even fashion industry and so many more.
Q. Which is the material of the future to be looked upon for your product applications?
“A lot of items which we first imported,
now we have started producing in-house
under the ‘Make in India’ mission. ‘Made in India’ products have comparatively much more positive impact than before. Global markets are still untapped and there is
tremendous potential for India in exports,” believes Ronak Bothra, in dialogue with POLYMERS Communiqué.
PP can be considered as the material of future for us, where we see lot of potential in household applications. A big chunk of it is still imported from neighbouring countries
due to innovation and low cost, leaving a huge scope in our hands to increase market share.
Q. Your take on vocal for local and being Atmanirbhar? This pandemic has taken a lot of things from us, but in

return has also taught us some very important lessons. Vocal for local is one
of those. The world has understood the capability of India in manufacturing industry. In span of just 1 year, we Ronak Bothra Director, Paras Group of Companies, Ahmednagar
have seen thousands of industries flourishing with new products. Existing
industries have adapted new working patterns with changing times and so
many entered into producing essential goods for COVID. A lot of items which we first imported, now we have started producing in-house under the ‘Make in
India’ mission. ‘Made in India’ products have comparatively much more positive
impact than before. Global markets are still untapped and there is tremendous
potential for India in exports. This way business can also contribute in strengthening our economy. One of
the industries where we largely depend on imports is metallurgy. If we have
mastery in metallurgy industry, our
imports will definitely be far less than what it is today.
Q. Having been in the pipes industry for this long, your thoughts on venturing into the allied industry of fittings, ancillaries, doors, partitions etc. Though the manufacturing process for
making doors and partitions is kind of similar, but the market is different. You need to have different channels and sales force for the same. So, there are
no immediate plans in entering into the doors and partition industry.
Q. Please share your take on the use of PCR in production and its implementation in your industry? There is the concept of virgin plastic in our society. To use PCR in our industry, we

find applications in low value products. This is one of the primary reasons
why recycling does not offer an acceptable value proposition to producers of virgin resins. Consequently, recycling is not considered a worthy business for large companies to invest in and is practiced predominantly in the smaller,

One of the ways to mitigate this problem is to seek avenues where recycling leads to value accretion
to the waste polymers. Such processes are called ‘upcycling’ meaning that the value of the products derived from such recycling processes have higher value than the original polymer. Such solutions

attracting the attention of both, scientists in academia and industry [1]. Many such ideas are at an early stage of evolution and evaluation.
For example, a paper by Delferro, Sadow and
coworkers has demonstrated that PE (LLD and HD) can be converted to saturated hydrocarbons with
molecular weights in the range of about 1,000 with narrow molecular weight distribution using a
catalytic hydrogenolysis process [2]. These products
are useful as feedstocks for high quality lubricants waxes.

saturated hydrocarbons. One of the interesting facets of this reaction is that the products have very
narrow distribution of molecular weights (dispersity of 1.1 - 1.3). For liquid oligomers, such narrow dispersity offers several property advantages in applications. Conventional pyrolysis processes for

Digital Colour Management
to have Significant Impact on Business Operations and Profits Q. Colour management is a science in itself, a very critical and essential parameter across the plastics industry; please comment on the critical applications and key metrics that are salient to various verticals in this industry. Plastic - a shortened form of the word thermoplastic, meaning
polymeric materials that can be shaped and reshaped using
heat - is one of the most ubiquitous objects of modern life.
Just about everything we touch has plastic in it, from water
bottles and cell phones to clothing and furniture. We find plastic
in our computers, our plumbing pipes and our children’s toys.
Even everyday items that do not contain plastic, like stainless
steel, glass or wood, are typically encased (and often shipped) in
plastic packaging.
The critical applications in colour matching in the plastics industry involves translucent matching at optimum loading, how to tackle filler content and how to control the different parameters at various
production stages. The plastics colour matching falls under

well as advanced technology. There is always a difference between what is the output of colour management system
and actual colour on the product, and one should use experience to use the
system in right ways to get maximum
output. For example, in masterbatch applications, there is always a challenge to match the colour when a filler is involved.
The important part is one should understand

from resins, the incoming pigment control followed by lab or production process. Pigment dispersion as well as

Whether the product of a supply chain
is resins or pellets - the building blocks
of nearly everything made of plastic or a multi-component consumer good found on retail shelves, the colour
process is anything but simple for the plastics industry. The sheer variation
across plastic materials is head-spinning: opaque, transparent, matte, high gloss,
metallic, pearlescent and so on. Each has an impact on how a colourant
can be applied and how it looks in the real world. What’s more, many plastics must coordinate colour with disparate materials, like textiles or leather, to create a cohesive palette (Think of the
dashboard of your car or the interior of an airplane.).

Project Management An Integral Part of Organisational Growth
Project management is a very important aspect to
look at, especially when it deals with newer businesses or expansions. This can only be achieved if its

or any organisation to grow, there needs to be fresh ideas, business vision - short or long term to work on and to implement in a scientific and professional manner.
An organisation grows by two approaches - inorganic and organic. In an earlier trend, businesses preferred to grow by the organic route i.e., by using internal
resources and expansions. Such growth was a bit slow, though it had a very strong
base and foundation. In the inorganic growth approach, the organisation strategically decides to acquire other businesses which may or may not be in sync with their present business. In turn, the growth of the organisation is seen
instantaneously and there is a sudden leap in business as well as earnings. The growth is very fast. A word of caution here is that, if not managed well, it may turn out to be a disaster. Prashant Trivedi Vice President, Sangir Plastics Pvt. Ltd., Vapi
