The interior designers at Polytech Associates combine color, materials, furniture, art and their design sense to create healing, positive environments for healthcare delivery systems. Research supports the notion that well-designed environments can play a significant role in enhancing the experience for patients, caregivers, and visitors. Over the last twenty-four years, the interior designers at Polytech have been successfully creating healthcare interior environments for well-established healthcare organizations, as well as in collaboration with numerous healthcare Architects. We partner with our clients to provide interior architecture and design solutions that respond not only to contemporary aesthetic expectations, but to address the business realities of efficient planning, sustainability, budget affordability, and staff satisfaction and safety. Polytech assists Architects and Owners with a full range of interior design services ranging from a simple color scheme for a remodel, to detailed functional programming and medical planning, to full building Interior design, furniture selection and specification programs. Our core commitment is to provide our clients with finished projects that empower healthcare providers to do their best work. SOUTH OF MARKET HEALTH CENTER SAN FRANCISCO, CA

South of Market Health Center (SMHC) is a nonprofit community clinic providing quality healthcare to under-served members of this San Francisco neighborhood. Executive director, Charles Range leads SMHC with the philosophy that all people deserve the same high level of health care and set his vision to build a community clinic that elevates the health care delivery experience for all; patient, caregiver and staff. Polytech Associates partnered with SMHC to bring their egalitarian vision to reality. The design program for the 20,000 sf clinic combines modern, clean lines with a light color palette, rich textures, natural materials and an open space plan that allows natural light to penetrate the space. Each of these design elements was selected to lend comfort and calm to the building. The flexible plan and room size allows SMHC to increase the number of patients and services they provide while minimizing costly renovations. PETALUMA MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDINGS 1 & 2 PETALUMA, CA

Polytech Associates provided full interior architectural services for an upgrades program at a Petaluma Medical Office Building. The 30,000 sf project spans two adjacent medical office buildings and includes renovations and ergonomic upgrades to the reception and nursing stations and renovations to examination rooms, conference, Administration and Provider offices. Our scope of work also included finishes upgrades, furniture replacement, treatment of interior glazing, ceilings, and casework. Lighting upgrades occurred throughout for energy efficiency and aesthetics. Our design team worked with facility administrators and staff and the in-house construction team to develop a phased construction plan, allowing adjacent areas to remain fully functional during construction. Design and construction were completed across multiple phases over the course of one year. Project Features • Interior Renovation program for 30,000 sf • Designed to meet LEED Silver standards and enhance work place safety, no VOC’s • Phased implementation, allowing medical office building to remain operational during construction





INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY OPERATING ROOM SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Polytech Associates developed a full renovation program integrating new Interventional Radiology equipment into an existing Operating Room (I.R.O.R.) at a hospital in San Francisco. The new IROR is the first one of its kind in this particular healthcare delivery system. Interior finishes were selected to delineate zones within the space. These include the sterile zone around the table, the equipment zone and circulation. Colors were selected to contrast with instruments to facilitate counting and minimize lost or misplaced items. The project was designed to meet LEED Silver specifications. Project Features • Full renovation program for hybrid Operating Room • Equipment combines conventional capabilities with endovascular imaging, better serving the needs of vascular surgeons and their patients • Careful coordination between Siemens and Berchtold ensured retention of a sterile environment • Construction access from a non sterile corridor allowed surrounding Operating Room to remain functional during construction • Limited Space necessitated innovative equipment orientation



Interventional Radiology Operating Room



MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING SUITE FREMONT, CA Polytech Associates is currently providing full design services for an equipment replacement program for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite at a major healthcare provider’s medical center in Fremont, CA. The new, open MRI gives increased comfort levels during the procedure. Our design program also features LED lighted panels on the ceiling and adjacent wall with a photographic nature image. This will create a calming, supportive environment to mitigate the often stressful procedure. Finishes referencing natural materials are deployed to delineate the patient and staff zones in the room. Project Features • Accelerated design schedule by combining Schematic Design and Design Development • Coordinated with physicist to evaluate shield requirements and incorporate into new design • Close coordination with hospital staff and administrators that allowed adjacent departments to remain functional during construction • Evaluate equipment and room cooling and incorporated into new design • Building Information Modeling (BIM) using Revit • Designed to meet LEED Silver standards • All elements MRI compatible



ANGIOGRAPHY SUITE, PACIFIC CAMPUS CALIFORNIA PACIFIC MEDICAL CENTER SAN FRANCISCO, CA Polytech Associates provided an equipment replacement and room remodel for the Angiography Suite at California Pacific Medical Center’s Pacific Campus. The new equipment delivers images digitally. Our Interiors group worked with CPMC to ensure that finishes blended harmoniously with the adjacent department. Natural wood contrasting with cool wall finishes contributes to a calm environment. Project Features • Equipment replacement and room remodel with finishes upgrade • Office of Statewide Planning and Development (OSHPD) review and approval • Careful construction coordination allowed adjacent services to remain operational with no unplanned delays • Designed to meet LEED Silver standards



FLUOROSCOPY SUITE, DAVIES CAMPUS CALIFORNIA PACIFIC MEDICAL CENTER SAN FRANCISCO, CA Polytech Associates provided an equipment replacement and room remodel for the Fluoroscopy Suite at California Pacific Medical Center’s Pacific Campus. The new equipment introduces enhanced imaging capabilities. Our Interiors group coordinated with CPMC to introduce references to nature in the finishes and ceiling image to forge a calm and reassuring ambience. OAKLAND MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING OAKLAND, CA Polytech Associates teamed with NBBJ San Francisco to design a new 160,000 sf medical office building in Oakland, CA. To meet the Owner’s goal of creating a positive environment with improved efficiency, the outdated and cramped facility was demolished to make way for a new hospital. User group meetings, though time consuming, ultimately led to staff buy in and a successful transition into the new building. Facilitated by our design team, these user group work sessions enabled all stake holders to participate in and review the furnishings solutions and specifications. These sessions combined consultants from Medical Equipment Planning, Information Technology and Work Place Safety. Polytech provided furniture documentation and purchasing coordination for the new facility. Polytech worked with user groups from Medicine, Oncology, Pediatric Rehabilitation, Adult Rehabilitation, Palliative Care/Hospice, Occupational Therapy, Dermatology and Health Education departments. COMMUNITY LIVING CENTER, VA FRESNO CAMPUS FRESNO, CA Polytech Associates is currently providing programming, architecture, and interior architecture services for the expansion of the Community Living Center (CLC) at the VA Fresno Campus. This project will be completed in four phases. Phase 1 will provide twenty-two new private rooms with full bathrooms for each patient. Patient areas will be fully accessible to patients regardless of mobility. This decanting of patient rooms will provide the ‘empty chair” needed to continue the renovation of the existing facility. The expansion will create the space necessary to provide a patient-centered care environment, transitioning the CLC into a more home-like and less institutionalized space. Once complete, the sixty bed facility will offer, palliative care and hospice, patient lifts, centralized dining and recreation areas, and improved spaces for physicians, nurses, staff, medication rooms, and public restrooms. Interior finishes were selected to provide a homelike environment with references to natural materials such as wood and stone. Color schemes are full spectrum to accommodate personal preferences of staff and residents. Each resident room has a built in window seat and display shelves for personalization. Project Features • 49,450 gsf renovation and expansion of Community Living Center • 60-bed facility will offer private bedroom and bathroom for each veteran participating in inpatient programs • Centralized dining and recreation areas • Building Information Modeling, using Revit • Designed to meet LEED Silver Certification



DNA EXTRACTION LABORATORY BERKELEY, CA Polytech Associates provided full Interior Design services for a new, 5,500 sf DNA laboratory in Berkeley, CA. The expanded space allows researchers to store 500,000 blood and saliva samples in a database for disease prevention and genetic studies. Development of Interior finishes and furnishings focused on mitigating the effects of a windowless space. A full spectrum scheme provides touch points for all staff regardless of their individual color preferences. Project Features • Adaptive reuse • Laboratory planning, interior architecture and interior design • Provide optimum working conditions in a windowless space • Spaces for ambient storage and cryogenic storage incorporated into laboratory planning • Designed to LEED Silver Standards





HOME INTRAVENOUS PHARMACY BERKELEY, CA Polytech Associates provided full pharmacy planning, architectural and interior design services for the remodel of a 9,800 sf first floor warehouse into a home intravenous pharmacy in Berkeley, CA. This facility provides IV therapies for self treatment in the comfort of the patients’ homes. Development of Interior finishes and furnishings focused on mitigating the effects of a nearly windowless space. Strategically located Interior glazing captures and shares available natural light and exterior views with pharmacy staff and provides needed orientation to time of day and weather. Project Features • Planning, interior architecture and interior design • Features individual spaces for Administration, compounding, assembly, storage and shipping/receiving giving these departments a more efficient work environment • Provide optimum working conditions in a nearly windowless space • Designed to LEED Silver Standards








HUMANI ETHIOPIA

Humani is a nonprofit organization that is developing a self-sustaining community in Ethiopia. Young mothers suffering from HIV/AIDS and their children will be given medical assistance, professional training, and employment opportunities in a safe environment. A school is being incorporated into the master plan, giving the young mothers access to an education that will allow them to develop marketable skills. The organization is currently negotiating with the Ethiopian government for the 300 acres of land that will be necessary to build the compound. The plan includes small groups of buildings that will house the numerous functions within a fenced master compound. On-site utilities will be designed for conservation, with the goal of developing a net-zero community. VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOMELESSNESS RESOURCE CENTER AND EMERGENCY ANNEX MENLO PARK, CA

The 95-acre VA Menlo Park Campus is one of the VA’s largest campuses, specializing in providing mental health services, including long-term care and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation programs. The campus is home to a domiciliary residential facility that treats homeless and substance-dependent veterans with the goal of returning them to optimal independent living. The project consists of two parts, a new building and adaptive re-use of an existing building. The new Emergency Annex will provide a central police building at the main entrance to the VA Menlo Park Campus for visitor identification and registration. The new building will complement the existing visitor’s center providing a sense of arrival to the VA Menlo Park Campus. The adaptive re-use project renovates a former domiciliary residential facility into a consolidated Homelessness Resource Center. This expansion will provide the much needed space for the VA’s growing outpatient mental health programs which focuses on homeless veterans.

MEDICAL OFFICE BUILDING LOBBY RENOVATIONS HAYWARD, CA and FREMONT, CA

Polytech Associates was asked to upgrade the lobby of this Medical Office Building to reflect the owner’s current brand strategy following their corporate standards for finishes, materials and furnishings to create a warm, timeless approachable, welcoming less institutional environment.
