Master of Design Scheme Design Practices Design Strategies Interaction Design International Design and Business Management Urban Environments Design Entrance Requirements A common recruitment and intake procedure will be conducted to provide a means to better advise students about the appropriateness of particular specialisms to their personal and career development. Individual specialisms will, however, continue to undertake specialism-specific interviews and will apply some specialismspecific requirements (see below). Applicants are required to indicate their choice of specialism upon application.

Most applicants to the Master level have historically undertaken Bachelor level degrees from Hong Kong or overseas institutions where the language of instruction is English. To maintain a minimum standard of language proficiency in the classroom, applicants who do not have a degree from a recognised university at which the language of instruction is English are required to obtain: • An overall Band Score of at least 6 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); OR • a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 80 for the Internet-based test or 550 for the paper-based test. Applicants will also normally be required to demonstrate oral competency in English by means of an interview.

13

Specialism-specific Requirements Design Practices A Bachelor’s degree in design or the equivalent in a related discipline and professional experience in design is preferred. • Portfolios will be reviewed during the selection process.

Design Strategies A Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent and a minimum of two years of professional experience in a design related field is required.

Interaction Design A Bachelor’s degree in design or the equivalent in a related discipline is required. • Portfolios will be reviewed during the selection process. •

International Design and Business Management A Bachelor’s degree in design, or business, or technological fields, or the equivalent in a related discipline is required; preferably with 2 years relevant professional experience. • Portfolios will be reviewed during the selection process.

Urban Environments Design A Bachelor’s degree in a spatial design field or the equivalent in a related discipline (e.g. interior design, environment design, landscape design, architecture, urban design) is required. • Portfolios will be reviewed during the selection process. •
