FROM THE TEAM

WELCOME TO JANUARY 2015!

January is a time of new beginnings... It is with mixed feelings that we bid a fond farewell to Ed Phillips. Ed, as you probably know, was our partner from day one of this publication, and a frequent contributor to our parenting feature. Since we know you followed our recent city elections closely (you DID follow them closely - and you voted - right?), we know that Ed is now "Pompano Beach District 4 City Commissioner Ed Phillips." We'll miss Ed's humor, our spirited conversations, and his always spot-on parenting advice. Best of luck, Ed! See you at City Hall!

Have a great January! This captivating image of a young woman at the Fort Lauderdale Day of the Dead event, held in November, comes to us courtesy Jim Hall - PrimitiveJim.com.

A NEW YEAR, A NEW DAY, A NEW YOU Photo © James Stafford Photography

5 Steps to Wardrobe Bliss By Elaine Simmons

Whenever I speak to women, most of them seem to have the same complaint: they have nothing to wear despite having a closet full of clothes. Persuaded by sales, friends and fashion trends, they have constantly purchased clothes with little thought to what they really need, and as a result have ended up with a closet full of clothes and nothing right to wear. The New Year is always a great time to organize your closet! Implement these guidelines and I promise you that your wardrobe will be transformed into a place of versatility and inspiration that will serve you well every day. So let’s get started. Photo © eurobanks - Fotolia.com

Get Rid of the Past As we learn and grow we sometimes make mistakes – it’s OK to make them but we should try not to repeat them. Now is the time to get honest with your closet and rid it of all the items you seldom or never wear. This will clear space for the items that are right for you and you’ll be able to see what you really have to wear.

Show Your Style Personality Have you ever tried on a garment that someone else recommended only to say – it’s just not me? The fit and color was good, others complimented you on it, but to you it just didn’t seem right – that was your personal style speaking to you. The clothes we feel truly good in are those that express our style personality. Most people don’t discover their style until they are over thirty years old. Being able to define your personal style is useful. It’s like when you decide on a make and model for your new car – suddenly you begin to see that car everywhere. This is the same thing that happens when you know your style and accessory personality. Instantly your subconscious style antenna will be on high alert and you'll find yourself discovering what suits you all the time. When you know your personal style, you’ll be one step closer to building a wardrobe that works. About the Author Elaine Simmons is an Image, Etiquette and Body Language Consultant, offering image consulting services to individuals and groups.

10 Pompano Today January 2015

Mix and Match Your Outfits You can make an item look totally new just by wearing it differently every time. Set aside some time to play dress-up in your closet – you can even invite a friend to come over. Try on your clothes and accessories to find new ways to mix and match them. At the end of the day you’ll be surprised at the number of different outfits you have in your closet.

Document and Log Document or photograph your outfits to make it easy to remember all the new options you have. You can also keep track of the thingsyou’ve recently worn to be sure not to repeat them often. Write down the items you may need to spruce up your wardrobe so that at the beginning of each season you don’t get caught up in all the new merchandise in the stores.

If you still have these clothes in your closet, stop reading immediately and go remove them.

Map Out Your Lifestyle You have different day-to-day activities and your wardrobe should reflect your needs. As an executive you may have professional pieces and you should also have a specific set of garments that balance out the rest of your lifestyle needs. Start with mapping out your lifestyle. Create a chart to reflect it, and then buy and build clothing clusters that will work for what you do. If you spend 35% of your time at work, then 35% of your wardrobe should be work wear.

Remember, when you look great, you feel great! When you receive compliments, it will not only result in a big smile, but you’re more likely to infect others with your good mood and be more productive as well.

your dining eating well and eating right

THE WINNING GAME PLAN by Kevin Roth

T

he problem with sticking to a ‘diet’ is boredom, feelings of restrictions and not knowing what to do when emotional eating kicks in. Here come the bags of candy and other snacks. It’s a vicious cycle of trying to work it all off at the gym, but the cookie calls. I’ve been there, done it, and found only one plan that really works.

Forget the diet idea. What you need is something healthy that is tasty, filling, full of fiber, crunchy for the emotional cycles, and sweet/sour for when cravings kick in. Salads, lean meats, healthy fruit, healthy ‘eating’ and exercise: we’ve heard it all before. So if we know what to do, why don’t we do it? Awareness, planning and variety are the keys. If you eat lots of fresh organic vegetables that taste good, lean meats that are not full of antibiotics, crunchy sweet fruit for desserts and other healthy items in the right proportions, and recognize when you are full, you have a winning game plan. Here’s the secret: flavoring. At my store, I have lost over three inches off my waist by following a plan of healthy eating and using dressings like extra virgin olive oil and balsamic glazes - they are full of flavor and are amazing for you. Some of the benefit of extra virgin olive oil are:

1. EVOO is known to contain stronger concentrations of phytonutrients that have well-known anti-inflammatory properties. 2. Mediterranean diet studies have long associated EVOO intake with a decreased risk of heart disease 3. EVOO is also known for helping with stress, diabetes, obesity, © Dustin Dennis - Fotolia.com and arthritis.

The benefits of Balsamics:

YUM

1. They have been used for many years for their astringent properties 2. Balsamic vinegar is a natural appetite suppressant 3. Balsamic is low in fat, cholesterol and sodium making it a great alternative for dressings and marinades. Olive oil is only 120 calories per tablespoon. Our balsamic is 3537 calories per tablespoon and only 7 grams of natural sugar. For those who know Weight Watchers™, it’s LESS than 1 point. Use the pairing of oil and balsamic on salad, eggs, meats, vegetables, deserts, in mixes, and on many fruit and dessert dishes, just to name a few, and you will NEVER be bored. When you come into our store for a pairing class, or one of our healthy wok cooking classes, we will show you how to make anything ordinary taste extraordinary, and be healthy and delicious. Remember, it’s all about seasoning. Awareness is key. It’s not what you’re eating but what’s eating you! Try and recognize when you are under stress, overly tired or bored. These are key triggers for emotional eating. By feeding your body sugar and unrefined carbs, you are setting up a vicious cycle of weight gain and disappointment. So start this New Year off in a happy permanent direction. Fill up on fiber and great tastes and you will see yourself melting away and experiencing a healthy tasty new eating regime. Bon Appétit! For more information on a healthy eating flavoring plan, contact us for special one on one sessions for making anything ordinary taste extraordinary. Always check with your physician before beginning any eating plan. WEIGHT WATCHERS and PointsPlus are the registered trademarks of Weight Watchers International, Inc.

RESOLUTIONS Ten promises to make to your vehicle

© Dudarev Mikhail - Fotolia.com

By Jay Ghanem

The month of December has been full of celebrations, festivities, good food, great shopping, gift giving and hopefully you are starting the year 2015 with a positive attitude full of hope. We all have written or mentioned New Year’s Resolutions but we’ve all rarely kept up with them. The question is: have you made a resolution to keep up with the maintenance of your vehicle? It is your second largest purchase after a home purchase. So, why do we forget to maintain our car? Why do we postpone that car wash or the regular oil change? None of us, especially in South Florida, can function without our cars/trucks/vans or motorcycles… We all need wheels. We need our vehicles for work and leisure. If our vehicle isn’t running properly, this disrupts our life. We won’t be able to make it to work, we will have to ask for favors (who can pick me up from home to take me to work), or we will incur the extra cost of renting a car, getting a cab or just rescheduling our outing. So, let’s try to prioritize this year. Let’s simplify our lives by becoming better car owners through being proactive about our car maintenance rather than reactive to a car breaking down. Just like we resolve to becoming in a better shape, going to the gym or slimming down by eating less sugary and fattening foods, we should think of a better way to keep our vehicles in a better shape throughout the coming year. 10 Simple New Year’s Car Resolutions: 1. Tire Rotation and Wheel Alignment: If the tires are wearing unevenly or if the wheels are out of balance, this will result in vibration. Vibration may cause excess stress on the suspension. A regular tire rotation and wheel alignment will prevent a costly repair. 2. Regular Oil Changes and check ups: Plan to have your car checked out at the mechanic twice a year - preventative maintenance at a reputable repair shop beats any extended warranty purchase. If you get your oil changed on a regular basis i.e. every 3000 miles for a regular oil change and 6000 miles for a synthetic oil change (recommended for most luxury cars), then always request a visual inspection on your car. A good mechanic will visually inspect your tires, brakes, rotors, suspension for no extra charge since you are already their customer. 3. Inspect your brakes: The only rule for how long brake pads will last is this: there are no rules. How often you need to change your brake pads varies based on your driving style (fast driver, tailgate others, hard brake at stoplights, etc.), the type of driving you do (city or highway driver), the weight of your vehicle, the quality of the brake pads, and the condition of your brake rotors. 4. Check your battery: Batteries store the energy that’s needed to start your car’s engine. And once the engine is running, the alternator starts re-charging the battery for the next start. Maintenance includes keeping the battery clean and secured so it doesn’t vibrate, keeping connections clean and tight at the terminals. Batteries can last between 3-5 years. Whenever you change your battery, ask your mechanic for a warranty. Remember, you get what you paid for. 5. Check your tires regularly: The life expectancy of tires, just like everything else on the list, varies. Tires have built-in wear indicators. Between the treads, there are these tiny little ridges that are

1/16 of an inch high. When the tread gets even with these ridges, it’s time to get new rubber. You also want to pay attention to cracking in the rubber/dry rotting. The high temperature and humidity in South Florida affects the tires - we highly recommend©you check your tires once/month in the Dudarev Mikhail - Fotolia.com summer and once in the winter/fall time. 6. Regular fluid changes: In addition to the oil change, the vehicle needs to stay lubricated so that the engine and the multiple other components within the car function properly. This will include but is not limited to the brake fluid, the coolant, the clutch fluid… You can schedule a Sunday to just make sure that your fluids are topped off. Remember to check with your mechanic if any fluid flushes are needed/recommended. This depends on the age of the vehicle as well as the mileage. You can refer to your car owner’s manual or a quick call to your mechanic and you can get valuable information about your car. Checking your vehicle’s fluids is paramount to its longevity. And check your air filter: your engine slows down when your car air filter gets clogged with dirt and dust. A clogged air filter can reduce your gas mileage, your horsepower, and even cause your engine to run rough and stall out. The frequency with which you will need to change your air filter will vary widely based on two factors: how many miles you drive each year and the atmospheric conditions during those miles. Most manufacturers recommend changing your filter every 5,000- 7,500 miles. 7. Read or at least scan your vehicle manufacturer’s service manual: Check for the recommended gas (premium gas is a must for luxury or sports cars) - having a specific gas affects the car’s performance. Commit to investing few dollars more each fill; it is worth it. Your vehicle will thank you! 8. Regular car cleaning/detailing: This can be a 2-4 hour project that you can do that is free - no out of pocket cost to you. Bird droppings, sprinkler water, and excess dirt and grime can act like sand paper, thus affecting the clear coat on your vehicle. A good wax job will last you for three good months. It is important to get your car washed every now and then - once a week would be perfect. Just a quick vacuuming of the upholstery and the carpeting, wiping down the interior to remove all dust with a gentle (preferably an automotive cleaner), and adding tire dressing to your tires will make your car look good and will keep the value of your car. 9. Body and Paint Maintenance: So, you kept your vehicle clean and you noticed a dent here, a scratch there… It is highly recommended to get it done as soon as possible. It is cheaper to fix a scratch than to pay to replace a rusted area on your vehicle. 10. Resolve to address minor car issues promptly: A car is not a self-healing machine. If you put off a minor maintenance or a quick repair work for the future, you are risking causing further damage and thus a larger repair issue and bill. Well maintained and presentable cars are built for the pleasure of owning and driving. We hope that you will keep your 2015 New Year’s Car Resolutions. If you have any questions or require additional information about the maintenance of your vehicle, feel free to contact us at Auto Tech and Body 954-946-9730 or check us out at www.autotechandbody.com. Happy Motoring!

news from Broward Health North

PACEMAKERS Sameer Satija, MD Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Broward Health North What is a pacemaker? A pacemaker is a small implanted device designed to help a patient’s heart rate stay above a certain level. They’re typically implanted by a cardiologist, surgeon, or a heart rhythm cardiologist (a cardiac electrophysiologist, like me) in an OR or cardiac cath lab. The surgery is minor, with a small incision near the shoulder or chest, and requires an overnight hospital stay. Modern pacemakers are about the size of a dollar coin, and have one to three wires (leads) coursing through a vein and into the heart. Pacemaker surgery is not an open heart procedure. How does a pacemaker work? The modern pacemakers are demand-based, meaning that they pace only when the patient’s heart rate is too low. When it senses a low heart rate, the pacemaker sends a stimulus down a wire (the lead) into the heart, causing the heart to beat. The pacing is smooth and seamless—most patients can’t tell me beat to beat whether they’re being paced or not. Pacemakers can also help the different chambers of the heart beat in synchrony with each other by pacing them in sequence. How do I know if I need a pacemaker? As people age, their hearts’ natural wiring system ages with them. Over time, some signals travelling from the top to the bottom of the heart may start getting lost. When this happens, I recommend a pacemaker, as otherwise someone’s heart rate can begin to drop off suddenly, causing passing out. Other patients have normal wires, but just a slow heart rate. Not everyone with a slow heart rate needs a pacemaker—I look for symptoms such as fatigue, near passing out, shortness of breath or inability to raise a pulse with exercise to help me figure out when to place a pacemaker.

How do I make sure my pacemaker is working properly? I recommend pacemaker checks every six months, either with your cardiologist or your implanting physician. The checks don’t need to all be done in person—all newer pacemakers can be checked remotely over the telephone, and some can even be checked wirelessly while you sleep with a device on your nightstand. The battery on a pacemaker lasts five to ten years, and when checking the pacemaker we can determine how much battery life is left. What are big no-no’s when you have a pacemaker? The modern pacemaker is incredibly intelligent and robust. Pacemaker patients can use a cell phone, cordless phone, microwave or laptop computer— having a pacemaker should not impact your lifestyle. I encourage my patients to resume exercise once their incision heals— for instance, they can swim, bicycle, and jog,. However, strong magnetic fields, such as those produced by a metal detector can cause problems, and should be avoided unless you discuss them with your doctor first. Which foods are good for the heart? South Florida has an epidemic of hypertension, and I advise everyone to watch the salt in their diet. In addition, moderating intake of saturated fat and red meat is important. One diet that I recommend to patients it the Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes olive oil instead of butter or margarine, fish and small amounts of chicken instead of red meat, and whole grains, lentils, and fresh vegetables. I recommend staying away from large amounts of processed starches or sugars, because the amount of calories that they can contain are tremendous, and I believe that one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease (especially in men) is waist size.

Are there routine medical tests that should be done for the heart? When it comes to heart disease, prevention is key. Routine screening is important, with annual blood pressure checks, cholesterol panels, and fasting glucose (to check for diabetes). I recommend an EKG annually to patients who already have hypertension or known heart disease. About Sameer Satija, MD: Sameer Satija MD practices clinical cardiac electrophysiology, a field of cardiology devoted to heart rhythm disorders and their management, and is board certified in cardiology and internal medicine. He specializes in implantation and management of pacemakers and defibrillators, as well as invasive management of complex cardiac rhythm disorders, including atrial fibrillation. His office is located in Margate, making him one of only a handful of heart rhythm specialists based in northern Broward County. Dr. Satija also holds hospital privileges at Broward Health North and Broward Health Medical Center. Dr. Satija grew up in South Florida, and then received his bachelor’s degree from Harvard. He subsequently attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, and then remained at Emory for internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship and cardiac electrophysiology fellowship.

THE POSTER CHILD FOR THE ANTI-RESOLUTION OF 2015

I

By Charlotte Sundquist

t’s a new year, a new day. A time for fresh perspectives and a positive outlook for the changeover from 2014 to 2015. I recently read that there had been a study done a few years ago that tracked the success rate of individuals that had made resolutions. It reported that of the 3,000 individuals tracked, there was an 88% failure rate. Forgive me for being a bearer of bad news, but that doesn’t provide me with a lot of optimism at the moment.

Why is it that we habitually wait to resolve to do something different at the start of a new year? We plan to be healthier, nicer, smarter, more organized…but we’re going to do this on January 1st. Last year, somewhere in the middle…I decided to get my plans started earlier, getting a bit of a jump-start, if you will. As a result, I am now the poster child for the Anti-Resolution of 2015. At 40 “something” years old, I have finally admitted that some of my habits are destined to remain intact. Will I wash my vehicle every week? Highly doubtful. Am I going to ever get my household project listed completed? It’s never going to happen. Is it possible that I may fit into those jeans from high school that still sit on the top shelf in my closet? (This one caused me to fall into hysterical fits of laughter). Looking back over the past twelve months, however, I’ve found I did manage to accomplish some things that still show there’s hope. I’ve made conscious efforts to organize closets, giving clothing and unused items to charities on a monthly,

sometimes even weekly, basis. I joined a yoga class for the first time in my life. And last month I purchased a small gift for my local coffee barista for no particular reason other than the fact that she makes me smile when I go through the drive through window. I don’t remember when I made a decision to do any of these things; I just figured I had to start somewhere, sometime. So, for the beginning of January 2015 I am refusing to commit. I have no current plan to omit wine from my diet, curse less, nor will I state publicly that I will pressure clean my patio, or volunteer at a homeless shelter. I will, instead, stand in the background and applaud all of my friends and family as they train for marathons and quit smoking. Every day is a new day, and a new opportunity to begin. For those of you that want to join me in the anti-resolution, start your new goal on a Wednesday in February, and declare it complete whenever you decide it is so. Who needs the pressure of a New Year? I’ll get to it when I’m darned good and ready. And I’m okay with that. There will be no kicking my own butt for failing to tell the world my plan. I will simply walk the dog while the sun is rising, look to the east, and welcome each new day with an intention to move forward from the point I was yesterday. Have a Happy New Day everyone!

YOUR CITY || A FEW MINUTES WITH RANDY BRECKER The legendary talent graces the stage at AMP later this month

RANDY BRECKER: LIVING PROOF THAT SOMETIMES, TALENT IS IN THE GENES Legendary jazz trumpeter and composer Randy Brecker takes the stage at AMP (the Pompano Amphitheatre) later this month. Learn more about this phenomenal talent – and get a firsthand primer on jazz in preparation for the show! – below.

W

e see that you were born to a musical family, and that your talent was nurtured from an early age. Can you tell us more about that, and is everyone in your family musical? Yes, everyone is musical...my mother was also a fine portrait artist. We had a family band: Bob Brecker (dad), piano; Me on trumpet or drum or vibes; Michael Brecker on the clarinet, drums or vibes and Emmy Brecker (sister) on bass. Pretend you had to describe jazz to someone who’s never heard it. How would you describe it? It swings and follows the form of the melody and chord progressions...it's not for everyone…you need a brain to enjoy it! If you could only listen to one piece of jazz music for the rest of your life, what would it be? John Cage's 4:33 seconds…(of silence).

© Lifeline@Fotolia.com

Jazz is sometimes perceived as “inaccessible.” What are some musical pieces that you would suggest to a jazz neophyte? Kind of Blue Miles Davis, and Dave Brubeck Take Five, for starters.

digital formats on music and musical artists? The problem is not digital formats; it's greedy companies like Spotify, Pandora, youtube, record companies, etc. who do not want to pay for intellectual properties like performance and composing.

If I wanted to go on a “jazz club” tour, what would you recommend as must-visit places? Go to NYC: The Blue Note and Birdland come to mind.

You are well-known for your flügelhorn and trumpet performances. Can you tell us more about your favorite flügelhorn and trumpet brand(s) and type(s)? Yamaha.

How would you describe the state of live music in 2014? Live music is in great shape...getting paid for it is not.

Do you have children, and are they also musically talented? I have two girls, a daughter, Amanda Brecker, who has four CDs out as a singer songwriter, and six year old Stella, who is taking violin lessons and sings perfectly in tune. My wife, Ada Rovatti (Stella's mom), is also a great saxophonist and composer.

The Recording Industry Association of America notes that “While industry revenues from digital formats continue to grow, surpassing $4 billion for the first time in 2012, and reaching nearly 4.4 billion in 2013 while accounting for 64% of industry revenues, digital music theft has been a major factor behind the decline in sales over the past 15 years.” However, a March 2013 Forbes article notes that “Music Piracy: Major Studies [are] Conflicted Over Recording Industry Impact”. special to Pompano Today magazine: an inside look at one unsung hero

By Michael DiPierro In contemplating the theme of “new day” in the context of education I think of all the teachers who have made education a second career. Some second career teachers decided to pursue the profession because a teacher inspired them; they wanted to have the same schedule as their kids; they wanted to give back to the community; it is a retirement job; among many other reasons. As much as I would love to tell each and every one of their stories in this article I had to focus on just one. Joe’s story is interesting because he originally went to school to become a teacher in his early twenties, but then he had his first child and decided that he could not afford to comfortably have a family on a teacher’s salary. After his first year as a high school history teacher and father, Joe decided to leave the teaching profession and enroll in the Culinary Institute of America and pursue a career in the culinary arts. Joe’s decision paid off as he ended his first career as vice president of a major food service company. His three children are now in their thirties and Joe is in his fifth year as a high school culinary arts teacher.

Joe always wanted to be a teacher Joe always wanted to be a teacher, so when he officially retired he started to apply for teaching positions, but the problem was getting a job as

a culinary arts teacher was much more difficult than Joe anticipated. It took Joe about two years into his retirement and roughly 150 miles from his home to finally get his second chance to teach. Teaching was truly a “new day” for Joe because he went from being in charge as a corporate vice president to now acquiescing to the needs and demands of teenage students, administrators, parents, and standardized testing schedules. Joe states that the pressures of being a high school teacher are different than being in the corporate world, but they are much greater than he expected especially for a retirement job.

This ability to impact so many young lives is a fulfillment he never expereienced in the corporate world Despite the pressures and having to adapt to his new day as an educator, Joe loves his retirement job because he believes that the skills he imparts to his students will stay with them their entire lives. This ability to impact so many young lives and help inspire his students to share in his love of the culinary arts is a fulfillment that he never experienced in the corporate world.

NEWS FROM THE WEST COAST

stars in your eyes

By Misty Schwartz

When did you know without any doubt that you wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry? I believe that entertainment has always been a part of my life. I was the child who began acting at a young age in church plays about 4 or 5. But I didn’t start taking acting seriously until I was a freshman at The Ohio State University and my first semester I performed in a play entitled “B-Menâ€? from their the big hit and I haven’t stopped since. I minored in theater and continued to do stage which eventually lead to commercials, film and modeling. Early in my, life I was also exposed to writing through my fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Mitchell, and my 11th grade English teacher, Mr. Oror. Both of these teachers were very instrumental in shaping me as a writer and exposing me to creativity. I guess you can say the bug of entertainment lay dormant for many years as a young girl, but as a young adult that internal fever of entertainment surfaced. What inspires you? For me, inspiration comes in many forms, my relationship with Christ inspires me in the direction of my writing and some of the “goodâ€? decisions I make. My family inspires me to continue to strive to always do better. My mom raised us on two passages of Scriptures—Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added unto you,â€? and then on Genesis 1: 31, “That everything God made is good and you are good.â€? And music inspires me! I can listen to music all day and all night. It helps me relax and think. When did you realize you had reached your goals as an entertainer? I don’t believe that I have reached my goals as an entertainer; there is so much more that I pray God will allow me to accomplish. I believe that in my later years God has much more in store for me, but He had to get me to a place where I can handle what is to come. God has given me a taste of some great successes—seeing myself on television, in ads and seeing my writing in print‌but I believe I have only scratched the surface of where I will go, prayerfully. What do you enjoy most about your career? Meeting and motivating people! And living by the fact that “If I touch one person then my work is not in vain,â€? and thank God I have received emails, text messages, letters, phone calls and thank you cards to say that my work in some form or fashion has impacted the lives of others. I also like some of the other perks as well, like an excuse to shop for new clothes because I have an upcoming workshop or a dinner or two to discuss upcoming projects. Can we expect another book from you? Yes, in addition to Crimson Heights, I am also releasing I’m Single, So What? And yet of course there will be another book to follow, I have to keep my readers abreast of the next season of my life—so stay tuned to see what God has in store for me and the readers.

h yes, it's here! A new year, a new day, a new season and we should all feel good! We’re here, we’ve survived another year and we’ve had an amazing opportunity to start fresh and do things differently this time!

Your Business

Treat this month like it’s a gift, not a curse. Don’t succumb to the pressure of setting all of your goals for the entire year; you have to leave something to the imagination, right? Each year we all (yes, you too) get wrapped up in the “it’s a new year” syndrome and feel the anxiety of having all of the answers for how our businesses will look on January 1st and throughout the year. Throw all of that extra baggage out of the window and focus on what I’m going share with you!

Fly Like An Eagle - Because You Know 2015 Will! Yes, time will continue to keep slipping and when you blink it will be January again, and you’ll be reading my article that will remind you to take charge of the New Year on your own terms. Timing is everything, especially in business. There will be a time to start fresh, a time to take risks and a time to make some very tough decisions. During the good, the bad and the ugly don’t forget that timing is everything and yes you need to plan for the future of your business but have fun and fly high while you’re doing it.

The word "new" is an amazing word it's full of zest and spunk and we should all be thrilled about the road ahead!

Freedom Is Mine - and Yours!

Make Every Day a Lovely Day

You are free to plan when you want to plan, execute when you’re ready and start new things when it feels right for you. January does not have to be the incentive to kick off a successful year. February is the new January and if planning in January and executing in February is the way to go, then follow that road. All things don’t end in December and start in January; forget that rule and plan to succeed on your terms this time. Don’t plan to keep up with what everyone else is doing.

When you start a new year how do you feel? Pressured, excited, stressed or is it just another day? The word ‘new’ is an amazing word. It’s full of zest and spunk – we should all be thrilled about the road ahead (smooth and bumpy) because any opportunity is a good one. Any small win in business makes it a lovely day! Make sure that your business brightens your day and makes you feel brand new. Be thankful that you have a business; client(s) and opportunities to build the life you want. Everyday you're open is a lovely day!
