THE CHURCH of the GOLDEN LIGHT NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2020

Dear Members and Friends

Christmas Greetings to you all... What a year it has been, not just for Golden Light, but for all of us. We are so fortunate to be living in New Zealand and we are proud of what our little country has done dealing with Covid-19, compared to many other countries. Despite the pandemic there have been some positive changes at Golden Light. There are always new faces in the congregation, continued maintenance of the building, and much support for our little Church.

Speaking of maintenance, there was a leak in the roof earlier in the year and it was going to be very costly to repair. However, Swift Roofing carried out the repairs at no cost. There is just some plastering remaining to be done. We do appreciate those who place $ notes into our Sunday collection. This money really helps with the ongoing maintenance. One of our members is keen to repaint the outside of the church and we will try to see if we can get Dulux or Resene to donate the paint.

WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR GOLDEN LIGHT… Several members have asked what else they can do to help the Church. The first thing we would love you to do is to keep talking to friends and family about spiritualism. We do appreciate those who place $ notes into our Sunday collection. One of our members was telling us that he’d been at a party for the opening of The Convent, a new boutique hotel, last month in Grey Lynn. Because of the negative energies in the building, the owner had had the place blessed, not once but twice – and the second time was at the opening where all the party goers joined in to say the Lord’s Prayer aloud. There is so much more interest in the afterlife these days from all sorts of people. Just as a reminder, if you are able, please bring a plate for our afternoon tea. We are all conscious of our beautiful planet and if some of the food could be vegetarian, or even plant-based, we’d be very grateful. Under our Christmas tree, once again, we are asking for children’s toys please. We would

appreciate them to be unwrapped so the Mission is able to gauge which age group would be appropriate. We will also be running our annual raffle – the prize is a gift basket donated by Mavis Cousins. Tickets are $2 for one and $5 for three. The proceeds really do help the church with maintenance and its costs. And please remember, for a small fee the church may be used for weddings, civil unions, funerals, christenings etc.

NEW FACES It’s always a wonderful thing when members bring new faces to the Golden Light. Last month we had Rachael Carter, owner of Soho Wines in Herne Bay in the congregation – as well as Sheena, who offers readings at her booth in Ponsonby Central – so if you want your palm read, a crystal ball consultation, an aura reading or to purchase crystals, you know where you can go.

NEW WAY TO CONNECT WITH SPIRIT One of our members has introduced the concept of Instrumental Trans Communication (ITC) to us. This new way of communication with spirits through electronic devices is very interesting. Experts say that snippets of radio stations are played and spirit is enable to manipulate the audio so they can speak aloud. This is known as an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). There are spirit boxes and apps which help with the connections. You’ve got to really want that connection with spirit. It sometimes gets confusing until you realise that there is more than one spirit – and they can talk among themselves. For anyone wishing to know more, we would suggest searching on YouTube for Huff Paranormal. If there is interest in starting a group to learn more, please let us know. Next year we plan to reintroduce our circle. If anyone would like to take part, just let us know. Does anyone know anyone who is able to draw spirit portraits? We have seen some examples of Coral Polge’s work and she is one of the best. She helped the British police with a murder investigation by drawing the face of the killer! One of our members had a session with Coral, where she drew six portraits of family members plus an additional one of his Tibetan spirit guide.

OUR MEDIUMS We all love our mediums and all that they do for us. Next Sunday’s (6 December) guest from the Northshore is Helen Young. Helen’s father, Norman was a renowned medium; Helen is very enthusiastic, kind with a genuine love of people. There will be afternoon tea following the service which is a great opportunity to mingle with likeminded people.

For our final service before Christmas, (13 December) we will be joined by Melody Allport. Melody is well-known in many of the Auckland Spiritualist churches. Visitors to psychic fairs may also be familiar with her. There will be a Christmas party afterwards so please try and come and bring a plate if you can.

TALKING WITH SPIRIT We all have the gift to talk to our departed loved ones. Firstly, continue to speak aloud to them – they can hear you. If you want to take the next step, it does take practice. You just need a quiet space, where you can meditate, place a photo of your loved one in front of you…if you have anything belonging to that person bring it out. Try using a special item of theirs – a piece of clothing for example. One of our members uses his mother’s 50 year old Chinese embroided dressing gown. Then just close your eyes and keep imaging that person, while saying a prayer and asking to be protected by the Archangel Michael. Again, it does take practice. I am informed that you should always tape these sessions because you don’t always hear the voices in the room. Known as an EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena) and when you review the footage you may be surprised as to what you hear!

JUST A THOUGHT ON WHAT SPIRITUALISM IS AND HOW IS IT DEFINED Our love of our fellow man is foremost, and we endeavor to spread the truths of survival after death, of spirit communion and healing by the power of the Holy Spirit. THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES ARE AS FOLLOWS: 1. The fatherhood of God. 2. The brotherhood of man. 3. The communion of spirits and the ministry of angels. 4. The continued existence of the human soul. 5. Personal responsibility. 6. Compensation and retribution hereafter for all good and evil deeds done on earth. 7. Eternal progress is open to every human soul.

Spiritualism has no creeds or dogma and they accept that they are known as the Seven Principles.

Spiritualism has no creeds or dogma and they accept that they are known as the Seven Principles. The primary objective of spiritualism is to prove the survival of the human personality after death. Spiritualism believes that when we die our earthly bodies return to the earth and the spiritual body becomes the vehicle of our spirit. The character and individuality we have moulded in our earthly life determines our position hereafter.

We can't cheat. We can't pretend. We must make restitution for wrongs we have committed, and only when we have made restitution can a true balance be struck. The Spiritualist Church embraces mediumship, and trains members in its practice. This is the link or connection between spirits of the dead and living human beings. Clairvoyance is the ability of these mediums to see the form of the spirit and describe features, form, and clothing.

Do keep abreast with the Golden Light news through our website and also our facebook – the link is www.facebook.com/Spiritualist-Church-ofGolden-Light-321109474735309/ The church is going to have an Instagram page shortly, as we are aware, we need to be talking to the younger generation. Any photos or thoughts are welcome and will be posted on all social media channels. Finally, on behalf of 'The Friends of the Golden Light' I would like to say thank you to Tracey Devey and Martin Leach for taking some of this year’s services. And thanks also to Shirley for helping with the cleaning and for providing us with her beautiful music. I send love and light to you and your families - the blessings of Christmas and may 2021 be better than this one – we wish you a prosperous and happy New Year. Always remember LOVE IS THE KEY.
