seismic hazard design consideration

Graduation project 8TH SEMESTER (4th YEAR) 2014 feb - june Type - Hypothetical Individual work

design credentials for building form

Intension

To propose the framework that addresses the disastrous consequences of climate change and come up with an architectural solution that especially serves the low income group of people.

site selection criteria

The initial step to approach final model was to find the site that is prone to both cyclone and earthquake and then propose a housing scheme that withstands these innate disasters.

a definite distance is maintain between the buildings to avoid pounding

site wind hazard

Gujarat

seismic hazrd

Site is situated on kandla port road right opposite to Precem Gums PVT.LTD.Factory’s godwown, adjacent to a slum where huge part of gandhidham’s labour population reside.

to break the velocity of wind dense plantation is proposed on the south western sides. in order to lessen the effect of the uplifting forces on th roof, the roof pitch should not be less than 22 degree. hip roofs are prooved to be best wind resistant roofs.

roof proposed for the buildings in project rests on steel strusses and have three layer of sheet. liner sheet , weather sheets and in between two of them insulation material boards are provided.

beyond ones control

thesis

title - Design for ‘circumstances’ beyond one’s control in the title of my graduation project the term circumstances refers to Natural disasters. Low cost housing - why ? Disasters cause large scale damages, destructions, death, injuries to human and animals. The non engineered houses constructed by the people are mostly damaged due to lack of technical guidance and affordability. Considering the growth of non engineered housing, and the damage level of housing due to disasters, it is essential to develop a appropriate housing model which resists the disaster forces.

C u l t u r a l centre 6TH SEMESTER (3rd YEAR) 2013 feb - june Type - Hypothetical Individual work hand drafted

DESIGN PROBLEM - In this design project the assignment was to propose a cultural centre in the commercial capital of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Indore. The goal of the project was to collectively design a detailed plan for the designated area that incorporates sustainability principles and best practices in terms of planning, design and infrastructure. IDEOLOGY - ‘LET NATURE DO THE WORK’ After studying the historical context of the site, I discovered that the area has gone through serious forest degradation. Therefore the design for cultural centre aims to regenerate the ecosystem and environment that has been disturbed. The one way to reduce the land usage was to do planning in clusters. Cluster Planning increase the levels of flexibility and autonomy.

Auditorium The deisgn of the block is carried with an intention to ensure that everyone, including the physically disabled and elderly persons ,will have equal access in every area of the building. and since the built environment aims at reducing the energy usage instead of elevator, ramps are proposed in the required areas. The cluster comprises of 4 auditoriums one with capacity of 850 ppl , other with 250 and the rest two mini theatres with capacity of 100 ppl.

section Restaurant and cafe amongst the four proposed clusters one block comprises of ďŹ ne dining restaurant and cafe. Cafe and restautant with a capacity of two hundered and ďŹ fty people each. Cafe and restaurant both share same kitchen and store.
