What benefit does the nation stand to gain from educating the girl child? Whether it is accepted or not, education is the backbone to becoming an advanced society in the world. We must treat the education of the girl child with laxity because it is a crucial issue. The impact of education in the society in numerous to mention; however, this includes not making the girl child a burden to the society, making her productive; improving the economy of the society through environmental sustainability, and lowering the rate of illiteracy, which contributes to poverty rate. Educating the girl child in India can also help in reducing maternal mortality. With women having formal education, the tendency of having better knowledge concerning health care practices becomes high. Recent research by an NGO has discovered that the number of girls not going to school is twice that of the boy in school. Educating the girl child will help reduce the illiteracy level and help the girls to contribute financially to the development of her family in the future. Furthermore, they are more capable of securing the education of their children. Educating the girl child will further help in improving productivity in the society because it will increase the involvement of women in the political process. As we can see today, women are making tremendous impacts in the political world as they are heading top positions throughout the world. They are effecting positive changes and providing intelligent solutions to issues confronting the nation. Having a voice that could be heard reduces the rate of domestic and sexual violence. The education of the girl child brings about women who will easily brace safer sex thereby minimizing the rate of sexually transmitted diseases. They will also be informed on preventive measures to avoid other diseases. Girls who have completed the basic educational level are three times less prone to contracting HIV/AIDS. Because of this, the World Bank calls education as the “window of hope” in reducing the spread of HIV/AIDS in children. Every child deserves the opportunity of education irrespective of their gender because both male and female can provide equal growth and contribution to the nation. According to a proverb, “If we educate a boy, we educate one person; if we educate a girl, we educate a family and a whole nation.” A woman empowered through education has the full
potentials, courage, strength, and knowledge to pass to her child and the society in general. Therefore, the solution to the high rate of girl child dropout from schools in India is encouraging and providing enlightenment campaigns on the relevance and importance of education to the country. this is a responsibility for everyone because as more girls go to school, it becomes easier for India to be great again.
