HAPPY DAYS
Making Memories SANDBANKS SEEMS MORE LIKE PALM BEACH THAN A TYPICAL ENGLISH HARBOUR
Ben Fogle Presenter, ITV1 Harbour Lives
Seeing is believing, a visit to Poole’s three miles of golden beaches is a must. You will be spoilt for choice with five individual and unique beaches, including world renowned Sandbanks, winner of more Blue Flags than any other UK beach resort. It’s the ultimate escape, any time of year. For fantastic summertime memories, bask in the sun whilst taking in the views towards Old Harry Rocks and the beautiful Purbecks. Walk the shores collecting shells, wile away hours building sandcastles and take a dip in the clean, crystal waters safe in the knowledge that friendly RNLI lifeguards are patrolling nearby.
Make the most of the balmy evenings, light the BBQ in one of the designated areas or why not hire a beach hut for the day and enjoy some home comforts? For the more active, a stone’s throw away are volleyball nets, a slacklining area, crazy golf and Sandbanks’ play area, plus the nearby Pinecliff play sculptures. And after a hard day at the beach, enjoy some local cuisine in one of the beachside restaurants or café bars.

This landmark structure is the first bridge of its type to be built in the world. Its unique triangular-shaped lifting leaves reflect Poole’s proud maritime and industrial heritage. When the bridge is up, the two lifting leaves symbolise the sails of a yacht and offer different views from every position along the quayside, from a sailing symbol to the spire of a cathedral. In its lowered position, the bridge offers stunning views across the natural beauty of Holes Bay. The Twin Sails Bridge is attracting attention from around the world and its iconic structure is raising the profile of Poole as a destination of choice for both visitors and businesses. The Twin Sails Bridge represents Poole’s ambition of being a successful 21st century town. Not only is the bridge providing reliable journeys between the town centre and Hamworthy and improving access to the port, it has opened up one of the largest sites in the South West for development. POOLE SPEEDWAY 2014 Elite League Champions The world famous Poole Pirates completed the defence of their Elite League Championship in October to claim back-to-back titles in 2013 and 2014. The 2014 season was another remarkable year for Britain’s most successful speedway team, as they topped the league table in the sport’s top tier of racing and also raced to the silver medal at the European team championship to become the second best club side in the world.
RESTAURANTS & FOOD HYGIENE Poole has a fantastic variety of quality restaurants and a fine selection of pubs and bars, contemporary, casual or fine dining. Many serving dishes straight from the harbour! Food Hygiene Rating Scheme Poole is running this scheme in partnership with the Food Standards Agency. The aim is to provide you with information about the hygiene standards in these premises at the time they were inspected.
Businesses are rated between 1-5, 5 being considered very good, but any rating 3 and above will give you confidence that their standards of hygiene are acceptable.
World class entertainment The Pirates bring world class entertainment to the town on Wednesday nights throughout the summer, with some of the top speedway stars on the planet heading to Poole Stadium.
Poole Pirates have forged their name into the record books over the last ten years and have regularly included World Champions in their side. Take the family Make it a family night out with one of Poole Speedway’s family tickets. There are plenty of great viewing places close to the action and the restaurant and bar facilities offer a view overlooking the whole circuit. There is also a covered grandstand, with plenty of seating, where you can fully enjoy every one of the adrenalin filled heats and the thrill a minute atmosphere of a Pirates race meeting. For more information call 01202 681145 or visit www.poolepirates.co
The ratings reflect the hygiene conditions and do not reflect the quality of food or the service levels of the businesses. Food hygiene ratings for Poole restaurants are now available on the Food Standards Agency website: www.ratings.food.gov.uk

POOLE BEACH GUIDE
POOLE’S AWARD WINNING
Stunning Beaches Sandbanks Naturally beautiful with its golden sand, Sandbanks Beach is designated by the European Commission as one of the few areas in the country which has achieved the highest standard of cleanliness.
The beach is situated between Shore Road and Branksome Chine and is accessible from Cliff Drive where you can find on-road parking. The steep, sandy cliff face provides a haven for wildlife. The picturesque beach huts date back to 1920.
Sandbanks has held the highly coveted international Blue Flag for the past 27 years – the only beach in England to achieve this.
Branksome Beaches Include Branksome Chine and Branksome Dene beaches (dogs allowed all year round at Branksome Dene). There is a range of places to buy food and drink and the recently built rock groynes create individual bays to enjoy.
Sandbanks offers a designated area for barbeques and activity areas for boarders and swimmers. Slacklining posts have been installed. Equipment is available to hire. Activities at Sandbanks include volleyball nets, crazy golf, children's play area and Sandbanks Beach Café. Shore Road Fine, golden sands, gradual sloping beach and clean, safe water makes Shore Road Beach an ideal place to visit. Watersports hire and tuition is available nearby and there is a dedicated ‘launch’ zone for kitesurfers and windsurfers. Canford Cliffs Canford Cliffs is a natural and tranquil area featuring volleyball nets and football posts.

BEAUTIFUL POOLE
KEEPING POOLE & BOURNEMOUTH
A Beautiful Area
The Poole and Bournemouth area is one of great natural beauty, with its 10 miles of golden beaches, the world’s second largest natural harbour, and with more award‑winning parks and beaches than any other destination!
THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING TO STAY IN OUR AREA , WE HOPE YOU ENJOYED YOUR VISIT AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU BACK SOON.
We are committed to ensuring our natural environment is beautiful for visitors and residents to enjoy all year round. Here are some easy steps to ensure you get the most out of your visit and help preserve this fantastic area. Don’t let Poole and Bournemouth go to waste! We want you to enjoy a clean and litter-free environment, so throughout the towns (and seafront) there are recycling and non-recycling bins for everyone to use. However, we would ask if you cannot find a bin, please take your rubbish with you. Leave only your footprints. Try local, buy local We produce some of the best quality food and drink in the country and we want to share it! Dorset has some of the finest food and drink, so try our local produce and make it part of your holiday experience. There’s something for all tastes whatever you fancy, from local ice cream to the famous Blue Vinney cheese and Dorset Tea. There’s lots to celebrate and enjoy: www.directfromdorset.co.uk/ www.reallocalflavour.co.uk
Explore what’s on your doorstep There’s something exciting to be found around every corner, so stretch your legs and explore what’s local. For a better view, try travelling by bus, boat, train or bike and give the car a holiday! Poole and Bournemouth are well served by public transport or try a local guided tour of the area and discover the hidden gems. Get turned on, but don’t forget to turn off! Help us save energy and water, please only use what you need. Look after the coast and countryside Our world famous coastline and stunning countryside is yours to enjoy. Take litter home, keep dogs under close control, close gates, consider other people... and have a great time! Poole and Bournemouth are surrounded by heathland and woodland which can get tinder dry in the summer months, so please be careful. Look for tourism that cares Keep an eye out for tourism businesses that have been awarded for caring for their local communities and environment - The Green Tourism Business Scheme and David Bellamy awards are two top examples.
