welcome!

Bye summer, hello autumn…

After working hard on our Bright Issue and brand new blog, the Poppinette team went on a well-deserved holiday. We enjoyed the time off to catch up with old friends, feel the sun on our faces and taste the sweetness of summer. But not without taking some pictures along the way, of course… (Check Life @Poppinette’s pages for our holiday snapshots.) Did we miss the Poppinette office? Not at first. But after a while, sunny Spanish beaches, ancient Italian villas, and windy Swedish dunes started to inspire us again. To create new crafts, make new pictures and share our ideas with you. Going back to work was not a punishment, at the Poppinette office, that’s for sure! What do we have in store for you in this issue? Consider it as a long Indian Summer walk. Enjoy the leaves turning red, orange and all shades of yellow. Add some pretty lights to the darker days. Spend a rainy day updating an old pillowcase. Shop along with us on the internet, or join us on a shopping spree in Lille, France. And decorate the house for a very gloomy Halloween party, Poppinette-style. We’re happy and proud to have you here: sit down, relax, enjoy, and don’t hesitate to use our inspiration to picture your own dreams! With love,

Indian Summer Walk

Such a waste to spend a beautiful autumn day indoors. Siska took her family ( Molly, the family dog included of course) to the Middelheim open air museum in her home town Antwerp

Siska: “The museum park is at its prettiest in the fall, when fallen coloured leaves make you feel like you’re walking on a soft & cosy carpet. It was our first visit to the park after the opening of a brand new pavilion, a safe and beautiful haven for more vulnerable pieces of art. I instantly fell in love with this building. The pavilion is made out of steel and yet makes a perfect connection between nature and art. It was built by renowned architects Robbrecht & Daem. Maybe that’s why I like it so much, since Robbrecht once was one of my teachers at the academy of arts. The man was hardly the most popular of teachers back then, since he talked in a slow and thoughtful manner that some students couldn’t help to find boring. I didn’t share their opinion. I just found this man intriguing and found that underneath his calm way of communicating, a lot of passion for architecture and arts was hidden. I still feel very blessed to have been able to take his classes.”

Siska:

“Walking into this pavilion made me remember why I liked this teacher and architect so much. This is true architectural beauty.”

Shine a light

Dark winter times? Not if you create some light around the house. Here's 8 creative ideas for cosy outdoor light. poppinette – autumn issue 2013

A light garland with paper ornaments may not be the best choice for the garden. …unless it’s placed under a classic bell jar… Yellow stool (Sissy Boy), bell jar (Serax). Lights, tea pot, mug (Zao Deco).

Make people smile when they enter your garden with this ‘teapot’ paper lantern by Petit Pan.

poppinette – autumn issue 2013

Sets of lanterns work better than just one. Combine different colours, sizes and textures. Grey lantern & candles in printed glass (Hema), bamboo lantern (Huiszwaluw), metal lantern (Ikea).

Make lanterns out of paper boxes (Hema).

poppinette – autumn issue 2013

No trees in your garden? Collect some branches during a walk in the woods and place them in a flower bed or pot: the perfect hanger for a lantern. We updated a plain white lantern using masking tape.

NOT JUST ORDINARY SOAP

Irrestistible shop for beauty product lovers. This shop not only sells the classic ‘Savon the Marseille’, but makes the simple act of washing your hands into a real art form. Every soap in the shop can be tried & tested in the shop’s central wash basin. Beware: there’s so many bottles, shapes and smells to choose from that you may find it hard to stop looking, trying and testing.

lacasedecousinpaul.com AS GOOD AS A CANDY SHOP!

How much did Siska like this shop? Imagine a kid in a candy shop… The comparison is even more obvious when you see the shop’s design: big vases with coloured textile balls lined up. Make your own light garland and take it home to enjoy & enjoy & enjoy… What did Siska choose, in the end? Try the combo teal, white, neon pink and gold: to die for!

FOR PAPER LOVERS

We love crafts. So you can guess: we adore shops with craft supplies. Make sure you walk on all the way to the back of the shop, where there’s a little ‘walhalla’ of printed paper waiting for you. And choose wisely, that’s all we can say…

TIME FOR A TREAT

All the eye candy in the world can’t make up for some real tasty sweetness, so we stopped at the historic bakery of Meert to try some waffles & macarons: sooo good!
