Interior Speculations Final Year Major Project Bringing together Nottingham Vertical Farm and Nottingham Kayak Club serves the community by delivering a sustainable, social and educational space highlighting climate change and health issues. A narrative of social and agricultural progress underpins the architecture, where influence is subtle but effective. The project provides a place where collaboration and contribution happens across the hybridised businesses benefiting the whole community.

The Concept Insight from each independent informed a vision of interplay between horizontal and vertical planes. Intersection and convergence then defined architectural and functional expression. Connections across thresholds and transitions of spaces are supported by an integrated social strategy. Construction is honest; function and materials are expressed with an emphasis on sustainability and adaptability.
04
Community Cafe A programme of farm-to-fork is put into practice at the community cafe, encouraging participation in harvesting and preparing produce and in doing so, offering an education in sustainable food agriculture.

The point of sale provides a customer service interface to the consumer experience.
Retaining and utilising the existing canal docking basin as a kayaking entrance creates a unique perspective on the architecture and seamlessly blends the threshold between inside and outside.

Customer journey

Canal House interior
Customer Journey Architecturally narrating the customer experience through a chronological series of functioning spaces creates a structure of implemented social strategy. Sense of ‘place’ is a topic that warranted serious investigation within this community inspired project. Manifesting emotional connections between the community and The Canal House underpins the social strategy.

Women In Tandem Final Year Minor Project Women in Tandem (WIT) is a Nottingham based Community Interest Company led by women that delivers core knowledge and skills to empower women to ride, repair and maintain their own bicycles. The aim of this project was to develop the chosen site into a dynamic, flexible workshop, teaching and community space. The architectural language respects the site and building heritage through the use of local and sustainable materials.

The Concept The landscape becomes made for the bike and pulls in the courtyard to create a seamless threshold between inside and outside. The level change spatially splits the building functions whilst implementing ergonomic circulation and maintaining views to the workshop.

Consultation & Retail Space
Workshop
The customer journey begins with a consultation from a WIT member of staff. In this flexible space events, advice and retail occur. The retail offering from WIT is broad and browsing is important to the modern day consumer. The ‘till station’ will be carried by WIT staff.
Providing a space fit for a group of 3-4 customers to undertake a mechanic workshop in an acoustic, safe & spacious environment.

The Print Exchange Second Year Retail Project This project proposed the development of an artisan studio and retail space within the engine hall of the old Nottingham Fire Station. The design parameters for the space included a working screen printing studio, gallery and retail area. To consider the control and formation of the various spaces warranted clear design of the customer journey. My focus was on creating an inclusive public realm that encourages connectivity through art, community, and collaboration.

The Concept The architectural form and repeated motifs were ‘extruded’ and ‘stamped’ out of the existing interior, movements inspired by the printing process. Combined with a knowledge of acoustic and tactile materials the sensory experience of the space was hightend.

The Yard Creative Projects Placement Year One year working in industry integrated within the interiors team to assist on projects from concept to completion. Holding responsibility to research and present project concepts, ideate, specify materials and produce high quality digital renditions. I was involved in designing and developing retail interiors that push boundaries and encompass sustainable solutions. Developed my technical skills in new software, worked within budget constraints and liaised with clients and suppliers to increase my proficiency and knowledge of industry standards.

TYC were appointed to bring an entirely new approach to designing a Parisian health food cafe. My direct involvement in the project was from the concept stage through to realising material options and FF&E.
Working closely with the Sri Lankan founders, TYC have created a cultural experience in Boxpark Croyden. My contribution to K+K was through collaboration with the lead designer on intial concepts and visual communication of the spaces.

This male grooming salon in Shanghai tasked TYC with creating an environment that connects emotionally with its consumers and reflects the brand’s ‘bespoke is best’ approach. I collaborated with designers to research the market and model the interior.
TYC were brought in to create coherent brand guidelines and showroom concept. As a retainer client with TYC, I was appointed to lead the latest roll out in Singapore. From here I explored the nature of the showrooms and understood the need to Attract, Engage and Convert. This premium showroom evokes the classic and opulent nature of Savoir with a contemporary and experiential overlay. 24
Solo Exhibition @ Leeds Corn Exchange Foundation Diploma Major Project A self-directed project brief titled ‘Hide and Escape’ saw me reimagining public spaces in an interactive and spatial dimension. The public installation outcome comprised of videography, a dance performance and physical structure all with comment on feelings of escapism from the busy surroundings of Leeds city centre.

‘Drawing’ Series Foundation Diploma Minor Project A ‘drawing’ series developed from an initial sketch of paint splatter on the floor. This project was an exercise in deconstructing and reconstructing composition with considerations to scale and proportion. A test of patience in the repetitive action of the handstitched process, a growing contemporary art theory that pushes the perceived boundaries of art, design and craft.
