Solar PV Installation What’s Involved
First we erect the scaffolding for safe and convenient access to the roof
We push back the tiles to locate the rafters and check the layout of the roof hooks
Having finalised the layout we have fitted noggins in this roof to give the rafters additional width for fixing the roof hooks
With the layout finalised and the noggins in place we can attach the roof hooks
Meanwhile our electrician is installing the Inverter, isolators and generation meter
With the roof hooks fixed the tiles are put back in position. We grind down the nib of the tile so that it will still lie flat with the hook in place
Now we position and fit the rails
The electrics are ready for the DC cabling from the Solar PV array
With the frame in place it’s time to line up and attach the first panel
Carefully checking to make sure it all lines up
As each panel is installed the cables are connected up to create the circuit...
...and carefully attached to the frame to prevent them rubbing on the tiles
A lead sheath is fabricated to guide the cables into the loft. The nib of the tile has been ground away to ensure it lies flat and the roof stays weatherproof
Inside the loft the cable from the Solar PV Array is fed into conduit for safety...
...into a DC isolator so the system can be shut down from the loft space if necessary.......
....then run in conduit to the inverter which in this case is in the garage.
The last panel is lifted into position.......
And connected to the rest of the array.
With the frame trimmed to fit, the PV array is complete and looking good.
The PV array is connected up, tested, commissioned and is now generating electricity
It’s all working and the site is cleared ready for the scaffolding to come down.
