THE LOUIS I.KAHN TROPHY IS A CONSERVATION TROPHY OF A NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITION NAMED NASA(NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS OF ARCHITECTURE).THE BRIEF OF THIS TROPHY REQUIRED THE ANALYSIS,DOCUMENTATION,AND REPRESENTATION OF THE CHOSEN SITE WITH HAND DRAWINGS ONLY.THE SUITABILITY OF THE CHOSEN SITE TO THE BRIEF HAD TO BE JUSTIFIED WITH THE HELP OF DRAWINGS ONLY.I WAS A PART OF THE DOCUMENTATION TEAM IN THE LOUIS I.KAHN TROPHY OF MY FIRST AND SECOND YEAR OF COLLEGE.IN MY SECOND YEAR I WAS ALSO THE DOCUMENTATION TEAM HEAD OF THE ENTIRE TROPHY.WE WON THE CITATION(FIRST PLACE) AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL FOR ONE OF THE TWO FOLIOS THAT I WORKED FOR.

THE BRIEF GIVEN WAS TO STUDY AND DESIGN A SPACE(MODULE) FOR WILDLIFE ENTHUSIAST: UNDERSTANDING THE KIND OF ANIMAL/PLANT TYPE THAT HE/SHE STUDIES.ALSO HABITAT OF STUDY AND LIVING.AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE ANTHROPOMETRY OF SPACE REQUIRED PER ACTIVITY FOR WILDLIFE ENTHUSIAST.THE KIND OF LAND eg.RIVER,MOUNTAIN WERE ALSO TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION WHILE DESIGNING ;THOUGH SITE SELECTION WAS AS PER CHOICE.

THE ANIMAL CHOSEN WAS THE RED SQUIRREL WHICH FOUND IN BOTH CONIFEROUS FOREST AND TEMPARATE BROADLEAF WOODLANDS.

UNIT AND REPETITION:

PLASTER OF PARIS CUBE EXCERCISE:

COPPER WORKSHOP/COPPER EMBOSSING: TRYING TO WORK WITH DIFFERENT KIND OF MATERIAL WAS THE ANOTHER EXCERCISE.TAKING A SQUARE OF 200 MM x 200 MM WE DESIGNED A COMPOSITION OF CURVED AND STRAIGHT LINES.THE MODEL WAS A MINIMUM THICKNESS OF 8 MM IN THE DIMENSION.16 SUCH SQUARE WERE THEN ARRANGED TO FORM A COMPOSITION.COPPER PLATE WAS THEN TREATED WITH CHEMICALS AND HEATED TO CLAD IT TO THE COMPOSITION.

TAKING BASIC LINES,A GRID WAS FORMED.VARIOUS PATTERNS WERE TRIED IN THE GRID REPRESENTED IN A BLACK AND WHITE FORMAT.NOW THERE 2D PATTERNS ERE CONVERTED INTO A 3D MODEL.GIVING DIFFERENT DEPTH TO THE DESIGN,PLASTER OF PARRIS CUBE WAS TAKEN MEASURING 150 MM x 150 MM AND THE DESIGN WAS CARVED INTO IT.WE TRIED OUT TWO DIFFERENT OPTIONS FOR THE DESIGN AND ARCHIEVED COMPLETELY NEW 3D FORMS OF OUR DESIGN.

-THE PROJECT STARTS WITH MAKING GRIDS WITH SQUARE AND OTHER WITH TRIANGLE GRID.. -AT FIRST ONLY A PENCIL WAS USED TO EXPLORE A WIDE RANGE OF POSSIBLE FROM VARIOUS CONCENTRATING ON THE BASIC PRINCIPLE OF REPETITION,ALTERATION,ROTATION AND GRADUATION BY DOING A MODULE IN A GRID. -THE DESIGN COULD BE A 2D/3D FORM.THE COMPLETE DESIGN SHOULD LOOK CONTINOUS AND SHOULD HAVE FLOW. -NOW AFTER HAVING NUMBERS OF DESIGNS,THE BEST OF THEM IS SELECTED. -FOR UNITS GRIDS DIFFERENT COMPOSITIONS WERE TRIED OUT. AND THEN TRANSLATED INTO A PATTERN/UNITY WITH THE ARTWORK;WITH GRADATION PRINCIPLE AS WELL AS COLOUR.

THE SPORTS CENTER FOR DHARAVI WAS TO BE DESIGNED.THIS SPORTS CENTER WAS SUPPOSED TO DESIGNED FOR PEOPLE OF DHARAVI WHERE THE JUNCTION OF TWO AREAS MEET;IN BETWEEN OF SLUMS AND NEWLY CONSTRUCTED DEVELOPING AREAS/BUILDINGS.

SITE ANALYSIS: .DHARAVI,OPP.MAHIM NATURE PARK .PRIVATE PLAYGROUND .THE SOIL TYPE IS FERTILE AND SOFT .TEMPERATURE .RAINFALL

ARCHITECTURAL THOUGHT ABOUT IT... PSYCHOLOGICAL NEEDS: SOCIAL AND CULTURAL NEEDS PHYSICAL: BASIC NEEDS LIKE FOOD,CLOTH AND SHELTER.

-WHAT WAS CONCEIVED WAS ANA INTERWEAVING AND MEANDERING LANDSCAPE THAT INTEGRATED EXISTING CONDITIONS WHILE CREATING NEW PUBLIC,COMMERCIAL AND AMENITIES SPACES

BASEMENT PLAN

.BASIC AND MOST IMPORTANT APPROACH IS TO CREATE MAXIMUM OPEN SPACE; IN ORDER TO ACCOMODATE ALL THE FUNCTIONS IN THE STRUCTURE WITHOUT GOING HORIZONTAL,WE CHOOSE TO GO VERTICAL i.e. G+3.

-THE INTERNAL SPACES FORMED RADIALLY SUCH THAT THE CENTRAL SPACE CREATES ATRIUM . -THE HIERARCHY BETWEEN ATRIUM AND FUNCTIONAL SPACES IS MAINTAINED BY PROVIDING INTERACTIVE SPACES; LIKE VIEWING BALCONIES.

BAMBOO: -USED FOR THE MAIN STRUCTURAL MEMBER.HIGH STRENGTH TO WEIGHT RATION;USEFUL FOR STRUCTURES. -BAMBOOROO -BAM TREAT BAMBOO WITH NATURALLY OCCURING SALTS AND ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY PRESERVATION CHEMICAL.

DRY WALL: -IT IS USED TO MAKE INTERIOR WALLS. -DRYWALL CAN REDUCE SOUND TRANSMISSION THROUGH WALLS. -TYPICAL THICKNESS 1/2” , 1/4” , 5/8”.

STEEL: -STEEL IS ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST RECYCLED MATERIAL. -THE EXTERIOR SKIN OF THE BUILDING IS ANCHORED TO THE FRAME USING A VARIETY OF CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES.

THE PROJECT WAS TO DESIGN THE 2BHK APARTMENT FOR THE CLIENT,THE INITIAL IDEA WAS TO STUDY THE CLIENT PROFILE AND THEN DESIGN THE HOUSE ACCORDING TO IT.THE CLIENT WAS IMAGINARY.

-THE THOUGHT PROCESS BEGAN WITH THINKING ABOUT CATERPILAR. -THE THINKING INVOLVED HOW THE PATTERN OF SKIN OF CATERPILLAR IS.... -HOW CATERPILLAR’S SKIN PATTERN LOOKS LIKE. -WHAT KIND OF LINE INTENSITIES IT HAS ON IT’S SKIN ETC.

THE PROJECT WAS TO REDESIGN THE INTERIOR OF THE EXISTING CAFE LOCATED IN HAMPI,MADHYA PRADESH. IT’S A CONTOUR SITE WHICH HAVE RIVER VIEW IN FRONT OF IT.

VIEW OF V.I.P AREA AMALAKA IS THE UPPERMOST PART OF TEMPLE.IT IS IN THE LOTUS SHAPE WHICH IS DEDICATED TO LORD VISHNU.

MUSIC

-NATURAL AND AESTHETIC PLEASING WAY TO UPDATE THE LOOK OF OUTDOOR SPACE. -GRASS -GR TO GROW BETWEEN THE TILES IN PATIO FLOORING GIVES IT NATURAL LOOK.

IN HAMPI,WE SAW HUGE STONES EVERYWHERE. IM USING THE COLOUR OF THIS STONE.i.e. TINTS AND SHADES OF BROWN IN MY CAFE.

CARVED BRICK NICHES -BUND WALL IS PROVIDED IN COUPLE AREA WITH CARVED BRICK NICHES IN IT. -LIGHTING FIXTURES IS PLACED INSIDE THE NICHES.

FRAMED GLASS RUSTIC LOOK IS TRYING TO WINDOW GIVE FOR THE CAFE -IT IS DESIGNED IN SUCH DESIGN....! A WAY THAT ONE CAN GET DIFF. VIEW FROM EACH GLASS WINDOW,TO ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF NATURE.

RECEPTION AREA -UNIT AND REPETITION OF FLORAL DESIGN USED ON THE WALL OF RECEPTION AREA.

POTS -POTS ARE PROVIDED INSIDE OF A WALL FOR AESTHETIC. -COVERING OF JUTE ROPE ON THE POTS.

ROPE PENDENT LIGHT -IT IS VERY SIMPLE BUT EYE CATCHING PENDENT LIGHT LAMP MADE OF ROPE. -IT HAS TIME LESS LOOK,ALSO BOLD AND SIMPLE.

LOWER SEATING AREA -ON THE LOWEST LEVEL,LOWER SEATING IS PROVIDED FACING TO THE RIVER VIEW -WALL IS CREATED OF -W CREEPERS.

INTERLOCKING PLASTIC TILES -NEW TRENDY DESIGNS WITH AFFORDABILITY . -IT CAN BE REPLACED AT ANY TIME OR PUT TOGETHER IN DIFERENT STYLES.
