As a PCA Region we try to average at least one event per month. The MAIN EVENT for the year is, of course, the willow Springs Time Trial. willGw is the main event as far as work, organization and effort are concerned. It requires more workers, more planning and closer supervision than any of our other activities. In the next couple of weeks you may be contacted to help us put Will~w on. Please do help! Better yet, don’t wait to be asked, don’t be bashful, step right up and volunteer. Why do we have a Will~w each year? For most of us, with a wad of speeding tickets, and one eye scanning the rear view mirror for John Law, we never get a chance to experience an exquisite handling car like the Porsche under near-race conditions. With the exception of SCCA racing or one of the driving schools like Bondurant, most of us can only experience those conditions at a time trial. Willow provides this opportunity under controlled conditions, the control being those steps necessary for personal safety. (Continued on Page 2)
This stellar cover is the handy work of photog Daddy Duane Alan. Snapped at Irwindale Raceway of somebody or other coursing through a gentle essery (?). The fantasmo Porscherama headline is ~WJ at work.

So we look forward to seeing you either as a .participant or a worker.
Now the Lord said to the multitudes: "Though I have made it of great beauty, you shall have power to congest the countryside, yea even like unto Los Angeles." Then to test their wisdom, he fashioned a mobile home and each man within the multitude thought himself the king and copied the idol as his castle. And verily the Lord’s fears were proven and he said, "I was afraid you were-stupid bastards and you have proven this to me."
Now if I could .just find a sponsor . . . ("I did! I did! I found Vasek Polak. He’s the sponsor and Tore~Johnson is the event chairman. Whew!" The last words are those we surmise old JK said to himself just after Vasek and Tore signed up. - Ed.)
Now it came to pass that man became as a turtle, lumbering along with his home on his back, wasting his resources and pouring out his crap till, like Sherwin Williams, it covered the earth. Then slowly he forgot how to sleep but upon six ply tires and how to walk except upon an open road. He wandered, aimlessly until he was without gas. And he coasted into a drivein movie where hecould watch a mountainwithout roads and a camp site without hook ups. And he cooked a TV dinner and threw out his beer cans upon the ground. And the king was content. Shadowfax
ACHTUNG! .There’s a new name on the Board this month. Del Jackson is the new Activities Chairman. It’s difficult to predict at the beginning of the year just how busy you’ll be. Situations change, time pressures build up and you find you no longer have as much time to devote to PCA affairs as you would like. It is for this reason that Ralph Campbell has asked to be relieved as Activities Chairman for the remainder of the year. Don’t fret, though he’s not disappearing -from sight. He tells me he will be able to put on our sail plane event later this year.

die august ninuten MEMBERSHIP MEETING - August 8, 1973 -Thursday night the Schoolhouse was bursting at the seams with seven officers and a handful of members|! The business session took a record time of about twelve minutes. Tore reported on the Slalom at Irwindale and announced the winners; also reported current membership n~w stands, sits or drives at 302. Ralph Campbell checked out coming events and is the happy recipient of the aid of Del Jackson for activities for the balance of the year. One of the sweetest sights at the meeting was parked out front of the schoolhouse, A glistening charmer - red 1957 Speedster, looking as if it were behind the show windew of the finest dealer. After drooling over the perfect "original paint and upholstery", it is no wonder the owner’s name escapes me, but the remark of having turned down an $8,000 offer for the little beauty did not. Anyway, we do know we have it in our fold as a transfer from the Denver Rocky Mr. Region. WELCOME, Little Buddy and your proud owners. Thanks again ~o ever-faithful Gerri Booth for the especially good do-nuts and coffee. It really isn’t all that easy getting there early to put the coffee pot on and then clean it after the meeting. We do appreciate though, don’t we? Our guest speaker, Ray Walsh from the County Sheriff’s Dept. discussed in fine detail about drinking and driving; not drinking and driving; and/or drinking and not driving. An explanation of the breathalizer and of the law regarding its use as well as other means of determining the degree of "driving-under-the-influence, left us all resolved to. stay on the straight ahd narrow. It’s the ooooonnnnnlllllyyyyy way to drive. The ~iece d’resistance and grand finale were Roger Wagner’s slides of 1974 PORSCHES ~arked on the factory lot inStuttgart. These remarkable shots were taken while Roger stood atop his rented Renault,. in a fine drizzle, just before dark, with a telephoto lens through a fence . . o how about that for a scoop?~! what a preview! Meeting adjourned. See you at Monty’s September 13. Wallace Cole, V.P. National, will be there.
Board Meeting was held August 16 at Don Colwell’s . . . twelve present, officers and guests. Reports were brief, but the business of how to better ~erve the membership lasted several hours. Items of major importance included proposed by-law changes; where is the best location for Membership Meetings (Monty’s in Sept.); advertising in Porscherama, on dealer boards, flyers, etc.; could prior events have been improved, if so h~w; and detailed planning on Willow Committees and Halloween Party. Vasek Polak will sponsor the former, hoeray~, and Corky and Carola are co-chairman andchairwoman of the latter, double hooray! It was voted to purchase three timing devices (can be done for same expenditure as renting them for two events) . . . Do you have any helpful suggestions to offer YOUR BOARD? Remember, elections are not far off and . . . UNCLE PCA WANTS ~ YOU TO RUN! VOLUNTEER~! talktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalktalk. Thanks, Mrs. Colwell, for the most welcome break and most delicious refreshments. Meeting adjourned. Respectfully submitted, Edith Savage Secretary

Sunday, August 5th, brought the first annual PCA vs. POC Challenge Cup Slalom. Unfortunately, it also brought POC. The "bad guys" really came to win. Out of 19 classes, POC won 13. PCA won 5 out of 8 showroom classes, but only 1 out of 8 production classes. But anyway, everything went very well. I don’t think many events, especially with two clubs opposing each other, could run quite as smoothly as ours did.~ I hope that some of the "invisible walls" that seem to separate the two clubs have started to’weaken because of the
friendship shown a~ this event . . . However, if they start to weaken too much, I am ready with my cement and bricks. You see, I took second place to a POCer.
P.S.
Tore Johnson Chairman, Challenge Cup Thanks again, Kendon P/A! SEE PAGE 12 FOR RESULTS

Springs time trials. This is the special time when you can "get away from it all" for a week-end with your Porsche and drive as fast or as slow as you want to. For two days you can he on one of the most challenging race courses around. Take your car and learn your limitations as well as your car’s limitations. You can’t imagine the f~n you’ll have just driving around the;course fast and not having to worry about police, kids or animals darting in front of yOU - just plain, unmolested, fast driving. For those of you out there that have never driven at Willow before (or any other race track) there will be driving experts to show add train you the right way. Vasek Polak is sponsoring our Willow Week-end ’73. Mr. Polak is helping Us a great deal, ~nd h4’s plannin~ on ~ringing a couple of race cars out for a special exhibition display of dr~ving. Do you t~ink it could be Jody in a 917-10 Turbo Porsche? . Or how about 908’s, 906’s, 904’s or prepared production cars? You’ll just have to wait and see. ~So, come on out for a fantastic week-end - bring the family and have a great time! SEE PAGE ll FOR SPECIFICS
