otations Boy, look at us go’. We got 1979 off to a great start with about 75 members who came to picnic and tour the Briggs Cunningham Museum. Our prez Dave Stephens had been called away to a Zone 8 meeting; so we didn’t have a real membership meeting. But everybody, new and old members alike, seemed to get along fine -maybe the champagne that John Williamson brought had something to do with that. Our guide in the museum was John Burgess, and he provided us with several hours of humorous and fascinating anecdotes. We rounded out the month with a slalom at the new LAPD course on Terminal Island. Although your editor failed to provide a map, more than 50 drivers found their way. The weather was reminiscent of Willow (it snowed in Torrance), but the driving was pure fun, and everybody had a good time. It was good see some old familiar faces -- like Ernie Kay and Nick Friesen -- as well as some new members and people we haven’t seen at slaloms before -like Thomas Thompson and Hans Aichinger. Please note in the Calendar that our membership meeting for February will be held the fourth Thursday, Feb. 22, rather than the usual third Thurs~iay of the month. One of our in house rally experts, John LeFlang, is going to give us a presentation on rallying that should help prepare us for the Solvang run in March (see the enclosed flyer). See you there.

Tech Talk The kick-off tech session of 1979 will be held SATURDAY MARCH 3. In order to get everyone up for the Santa Anita Concours and to repeat a very popular tech session of a few years ago, the subject will be "How to Clean Your Car." If you attended the earlier session, you know how informative and worthwhile this simple little session can be. And since there isn’t a Porsche owner around who doesn’t want his or her car looking its best, this tech session should appeal to everyone. If you’re the type who thinks that, even tho your car is clean, since you drive it daily you could-never enter a concours, then you need to meet Steve Ikemura. His 74 911 has always been driven daily, but two years ago he decided to enter the Santa Anita Concours just to see how he would do. Well, tO make a long story short, Steve won his class. He also finished first in class for Zone 8 in 1977. Quite an accomplishment for someone who drives his car daily and only entered a concours as an experiment. The moral of the story: concours Porsches don’t have to spend weekdays in the garage. Steve will be leading our tech session. Some of his hard-learned secrets may help you to keep your car cleaner, whether you want to become a concours nut or not. The time is 12 noon on Saturday March 3 at Redline, 720 Colorado Ave. in Santa Monica (take the Lincoln Blvd. exit from the Santa Monica Fwy.). If you have any questions or need directions, call me at 822-5412. David Kodak

RALLY
On Sunday, March 11, POC a~d PCA-LA rally persons (rallyists?), both experienced and first timers, will resume the annual Challen~e Cup Rally for the eighth consecutive year. This year we’re combining it with PCA Zone competition;so you can actually compete in t~,~o rallies at the same time. Just as the title says, we’re heading for (and expect to reach) Solvang for a lunch break before heading back toward LA. The route will take you thru some scenic parts of California that are not the quickest way to get to Solvang but are a lot more fun. The course will have challenges for th~ experienced rallyists, but is also designed for the beginner. After all, it is difficult to miss Solvang and we will tell you where the finish is located. So don’t be shy, come out and enter and then laugh a lot at the finish while comparing notes with others and relaxing with a soft drink. Now for the hard part. Registration is at 8 AM at our sponsor’s facility, Prestige Auto Service, 24050 Venture Blvd. in Calabasas. Use the Parkway Calabasas offramp from the Venture Fwy. The first car will depart at 9:01 AM. Equipped semi-equipped, and SOF classes will
be used. Guests with Porsches are invited; so bring your friends. Registration fee per car is $5 for POC and PCA members and $7 for guests. PCA-LA has won the Challenge Cup almost every year since the beginning eight years ago. POC won it last year. Come on LA, let’s overwhelm POC and take firsts in all classes.

LA Region is going to host the spring meeting of the national PCA Executive Council on April 7. Rather than putting on a traditional banquet dinner for the national officers, we have decided that an informal cocktail party would be more fun for them and for us too. Tentative arrangements have been made at the Portofino Inn at King Harbor in Redondo Beach. We’ll keep you posted as we hear more from the Council, but mark the date on your calendar. It’s the best opportunity we have to meet the national officers and get to know them ....... Pat Hurty, who is finally recovering from the LA concours of last year, has offered to be LA Region’s Zone 8 Rep for this year; she’ll have the task of keeping us informed on Zone 8 activities, date and rule changes, etc.;
