The Arizona Concours was a big success; congratulations to Mickey Harris for taking Best in Show with his 1961 Roadster. Hope to see lots of LA people in Santa Barbara this weekend for the Crane School show and SB Concours. At the September board mtg., two new board positions were created for next year: member-at-large: speed events, and member-at-large: social events, both under the direction of the Activities Chmn. The job of Activities Chmn has grown so large that one person cannot handle everything; the m-at-I for speed events will handle club slaloms and time trials, and the m-at-I for social events will help the Activities Chmn with rallies, concours, picnics, etc. ,To help you decide if you’d like to run for an office or nominate someone else, here’s a brief description of each J°b:*PRES: runs board and membership mtgs; provides leadership and direction for club; time-consuming; must have been a board member *VP: arranges for sites and entertainment for monthly membership meetings *SEC: take notes at mtgs; correspondence *TREAS: keeps club books for tax purposes; handles monies for events; bills advertisers for newsletter *ACTIVITIES CHAIRMAN: keeps master calendar of Zone and region events; directs event chairmen and members-at-large for various activities *MEMBER-AT-LARGE--Speed Events: directs and helps organize club speed events - time trials, slaloms, etc. *MEMBER-AT-LARGE--Social Events: assist Activities Ch. with concours, rallies, social events, etc. *TECH: plans tech sessions; writes newsletter articles *PUBLICITY: puts out monthly newsletter *MEMBERSHIP: processes membership applications; keeps files and address listings up to date; paperwork *MEMBER-AT-LARGE (5 of them): assist the board and be available for odd jobs IIMPORTAN~: we’ll be accepting nominations for next year’s board at the October membership meeting. Be sure to be there: 25 Oct., 8 PM at the SCC Yach Club

TOUR DE LAS POSAS It was one of those rallies where you have a lot of fun and learn a lot about rules you thought you understood and you still end up with a horrible error time. 31 cars entered -- and finished -- Santa Barbara’s Zone 8 rally on Sept. 8. PCA-LA came out in full force with twelve teams: Mac McKee and Ben Adauto, Susan McKee and Jose, Lark Nakazaki and Cindy Crystal in Lark’s BMW, Jerry Pennington and Jan Winthrop, Howard Levin, Sara Pennington and Ann Wang, Cal Marks, John LeFlang and John Wmson, Carmela Tellez, Mickey Harris and family (are three navigators legal?), the Friesens, and Bill LeFlang and Art Zapf. It was a beautiful day for driving around Ventura County and Thousand Oaks, and I do mean "around" -in circles. The first couple of legs went without incident, but then we ran into trouble° An addendum at the beginning of the route instructions (just the sort of thing you forget later on) said that when an instruction and an active note tell you to do the same thing, the.instruction takes precedence and the note continues. Sounded simple enough, so why were 31 cars suddenly driving in so many different directions? Later in the day, the same thing happened. The awful part was, you could do the whole thing wrong and still make it to the checkpoint, leaving you with a false sense of security. The final error times told the real story. John LeFlang and John Wmson took first in equipped class with an error time just over 5 minutes (that’s bad for them). In nav class, Joe Boucher and Charlie Fletcher (usually an invincible team) from PCA-SB won, but their total error was over 15 minutes~ The Friesens finished second (we won’t embarrass them by mentioning their time). In SOP, Mac McKee and Ben Adauto won with under ten minutes error; the Harris’ took a third, and Lark and Cindy took fifth place. (cont.)

1 Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to Doug and Ed Marsh for a super rally. We hope that first-timer Mac McKee, who has now won his first rally, won’t be too unbearable for Susan to live with. One good thing that came out of the whole day: Sara and I had so much fun in her gray Cabriolet, she decided not to sell it after all. Ann

Tech Talk This month’s column will attempt to give some hints to those members who will be going to Riverside, especially first-timers. Here’s a list of items you should bring with you to the track: glass cleaner for the windshield rough-back sponge to remove bugs paper towels waterless hand cleaner any and all tools you need air pressure gauge racer tape extra oil, at least 2 qts. fan belt fuses and relays spark plugs beach towel for crawling under car and especially.

FOOD & WATER

Don’t forget that all cars are required to have a IOBC fire extinguisher, and both lap and shoulder belts. Open cars are required to have a roll bar. Drivers are required to wear long pants and long sleeve shirts -- short and T-shirts are OK when you aren’t driving or riding as a passenger. Helmets are mandatory; the club will provide loaners. While all cars must go through ~ech inspection~ remember that the entrant has primary responsibility for the race worthiness of his or her own car. And last but not least, remove or disconnect your windshield wipers (it’s real embarrassing in the middle of Turn 7 to accidentally hit the switch and find the wipers scraping across your line of vision, not to mention that it’s dangerous ). 40 IDA 3C WEBERS $495/.r. WEBERS OFFER YOU THE HIGHEST PERFORMANCE ATTHE LOWEST COST Performance - WEBERS are probably the best all-around induction system for the Porsche 911. If your mechanical injection is worn, WEBERS will restore light throttle driveability permanently. If you have a CIS engine and want a lot more juice, WEBERS are the first important step toward true high performance. The CIS cams have to be reground to let more gas in but a mild regrind such as a 911T will allow you to keep your original pistons. Check with WEBCAMS in Costa Mesa. Quality - WEBER carburetors are universally acclaimed as the best there is, the world over. Dependability - WEBEBS are easy to adjust and simple to maintain. There are only a few moving parts. Versatility - You can do more with WEBERS, They can be fine tuned for the exact quantity and quality of mixture you need whether you have a street mild 2 liter or are building a full race 2.8, In example, interchangeable venturies are available from 27mm to 38mm. Application - WEBER 40 IDA 3C’s will bolt on the existing manifolds of any carbureted 911 except earlier Solex. For instance, although the 1970-71 911T comes stock with Zeniths, WEBERS will bolt on the same manifold and use the same air cleaner and linkage. The 1969 911T comes stock with WEBER 40 IDT 3C’s and will realize increased performance from these IDA carbs. For 2,4 through 2.8 liter 911 engines~ jets and venturies will have to be fitted according to the state of tune and use of the particular engine. WEBERS will not meet the emission rules in some states when installed in 1970 or later Porsches. The emission rules do not apply for racing. Ordering Info - We can guarantee shipping within one day because we don’t advertise until we stock. To eliminate check-clearing delays, we require payment to be made with a Postal Money Order or a Bank or Certified Check. The price includes the cost of shipping via UPS and any applicable tax. $495.00 is all you pay, wherever you live in the USA. PORSCHE MAIL ORDER/1 35-17th Street/Santa Monica, CA 90402/Ph.
