Who Is Maudi Audi And Why Is She Saying Those Terrible Things About Me?? Maudi is alive and well and living in the minds of those Porsche freaks who enjoy life and have FUN with good old PCA-LA. She was created to provide an atmosphere of enjoyment within what might otherwise be just another stuffy old car club. It’s about time people realized that PCA needs some change, too. Betty Jo Turner is giving new direction to Panorama, and I think it’s great. PCA has long been controlled by the same power structure, and it’s time for that to change, too. PORSCHERAMA will support Lou Marable for President next year, because we feel he’l be a shot in the arm for the National Organization. Each member of PCA votes for the national officers next spring, and we urge you to vote for change ....... Thanks to Corky Kirk and Gini and, of course, Pam for getting the paper to y’all last month ..... Maudi is sine qua non to PCA ..... Write On: John

It’s October, and we have about a month to s6 i~it candidates t 1972 PCA-LA Board of Directors. A nominating committee headed by Dave Kalbach has been formed and is in the process of calling various people who might be interested in serving in an executive capacity ..... If you have like I was about two years ago, you’re probably saying to yourself that you wouldn’t run because you don’t think you have the time or can offer any positive direction to the club ...... You are wrong on both counts. About four nights a month will provide the time necessary to attend board meetings, membership meetings, plus complete any planning and paperwork. Insofar as direction is concerned, don’t worry about it. All that is really required is that the business of the club is handled promptly in a businesslike manner. Most of you are successful business or professional people, so club affairs shouldn’t present much of a problem ...... What are the rewards for serving your club? First, it’s fun. Second, you get to know some people in the club much better than you would normally. Third, you have the satisfaction of knowing you have made a significant contrubution to your club ..... PCA-LA needs you. When Dave or one of the committee calls, say yes. If for some reason you are not called but wish to volunteer you services, call Dave or me and let us know you are interested. You can’t catch the brass ring if you aren’t on the merry-go-round. George Oedeon

PCA-LA September meeting was held on the 9th at Little Joe’s. Jim Ewing was presented the PCA Category III newsletter award for 1970 PORSCHERAMA. Chuck said our current balance is $1,210.00. John mentioned the recent material in PANORAMA about PCA-LA, and more is to come. Dave asked for nominations for the 1972 Board but none were made. Ewing introduced the speaker, T.C. Browne, Associate Publisher of Motor Trend, who presented an excellent talk about the workings of auto magazines, Can-Am races, and the GP of Mexico. Respectfully submitted, R. H. Ziesenhenne, Secretary 4

technical

Technical Meeting, 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20th, Competition Motors, 8855 West Washington Blvd, Culver City. Subject will be tires, to be presented by Michelin Representative, Mr. Fisher. Call Don Somerville for information. The current issue of Road & Track has an article on the PCA Parade in Sun Valley. All those interested will find it an excellent addition to your Porsche library. The latest issue of Autoweek runs an ad for a drawing of the 917 shown at right, for $1.25 each. Ernie Ozvath also does very nice cutaway drawings of the 911 that he will sell. Dennis Cipnic of Autoweek says the outlook for Porsche is: The 914 will remain in production, generally conforming to VW production components; that the 911 volume will remain relative static or drop to match market needs on month-to-month orders from Wolfsburg; Factory No. 1 will concentrate on projects which have potential racing or engineering customer appeal, and will race a new car only if they have not sold any of that model to private teams. We are pleased to see VASEK POLAK’S 917 CanAm car, driven by PCA member Milt Minter, doing so well this year. Milt finished just behind Jo Siffert for a f.ourth place in the most recent CanAm at Edmonton, Alberta. Richie Ginther is running a 911S Targa, Alan Johnso__n driving, for SCCA B-Production racing. As you know, the 914/6 GT cars, which were to be entered in class B, were declared ineligible due to insufficient production of the 914/6 GT series .......... You should also know that Watkins Glen was the final race for the 12-cy!inder Porsche 917. The almost unbeatable car is five litres, and next year, Manufacturer’s World Championship racing cars will be limited to three litres. The 917 was responsible for Porsche’s championship in 1969, 1970, and again in 1971. In 1970, Porsche won nine of ten races, with the 917 contributing seven wins. In 1971, Porsche won eight times, with the 917 winning seven. The engine, however, will have further use in Interseries races in Europe, and one 917 engine is planned for an Indianapolis entry for 1972 ..... Porsche-Audi ( New Jersey ) provides Porsche Shop Manuals through P-A dealers, who (supposedly) get them from regional distributors. In about a year, it is expected that P-A dealers will have bound owner service manuals for each model Porsche. These will be more technical than the owners manual, and will cover routine maintenance and adjustments an owner is likely to make, but will be less expensive, and will not get into technically complicated repairs covered in a regular shop manuals. Shop manuals available are: 356 B & C; Carrera; 911; 912; 914; and 914/6. 5

women’s glib Dear PORSCHERAMA .... Well, I had jest a wonderful time at Willa Springs . Freddie prepared ma ’63 Cabriolet(Freddie’s sort of ma "sleep-in wrench",I guess you could call him. That’s Freddie Audi, my fourth husband, ya know). Anyhow he stuck his number nine phillips head in there & straightened out ma motor with only one twist. And I wanna tell ya it all got together. Why, I blew off that Patrick kid like he had two left feet stuffed in a mole’s hole. Course once we got on the track and outa the parkin lot he went by like he was late for Jimmy Dean’s pork sausage. Anyways, they was a flock of great fellas out there. Couple or three of em really tried too, but they wasn’t up to it. Takes more than nine or ten Harry Wallslammers to put old Maudi away. My only trouble came when I spun out into the Hungry Dawg on ma way to the lounge and got attacked by that little Frenchman runnin’ the place. Come to think of it, his little Breyette was kinda cute. Well, must get the empties together and get over to the dump. Next week, Maudi’s gonna pour Freddie into the luggage box and head for Hotville for the races. See’f the Mexicans has got anything better than Larry Stallhammers to suck on ................ Keep on Truckin, MAUDI AUDI PS: Who’s John Lipham and why is he saying those terrible things about me?..Luv.
