This can’t continue. You wind UD with the "burn-out" syndmc[ne. I kncx~ for I have it. I am tired of smending, on the average, at least two hours of each day for people who don’t care. At the July Board meeting, I reccm~_..ended that the m~bershio meetings be held .quarterly instead of monthly, that Porscherama be published bi-monthly instead of monthly, and tb~t the remiona.l dues be dropped. The Board of Directors accented these suggestions. The regional dues can be eliminated by the savin~,s realized by the fewer number of meetings ($900.00) and the fewer

Hot, perfect weather was the order of the weekend for our 3rd Annual 4-Club Time Trial at Riverside. In addition to a record number of entrants (over 210), many of us enjoyed a terrific catered buffet on Saturday evenina-lots of beer, beef, ham_ and aoodies. Thanks to Tom ~srx for arranging the feast. R±ck Borlase from Las Vegas took Top Tim~e of Day with a 1:28.50 in his new endurance racer--a 934 turbo. Some spectacular cars were in evidence. Aside from the usua! Ferraris, Panteras and assorted Can-Am cars, there were 2 factory 935’s. Great weekend! UPCO~ING AUGUST 14 20 and 21

The first quarter of 1983 was very busy around Zone 8. Our Annual Zone 8 Awards Banquet and President’s Meeting was in January and the Southern Arizona Region hosted the Executive Council and the Board of Directors in Tucson in February. On the weekend of February 5-6, the L.A. Region in conjunction with the Porsche Owners Club hosted the first Zone 8 Time Trial for 1983 at Riverside Int’l. Raceway. Participation was again good and timed runs were once again rained out on Sunday! Southern California weather continued to ruin our games as a Zone 8 Rally hosted by the Orange Coast Region was rained out late in February. Hopefully, the rally will be rescheduled later in the year. As I report ed in my last quarterly report, PCA Members in Zone 8 are working on a bid for the 1985 Parade. Ron Hughes and Georgia and I have spent four days at Lake Arrowhead, CA working with the owners of the Village and the Hilton Hotel. We are just about ready to have Mick Williams come out and inspect the location prior to submitting the bid. Ron Hughes has tentatively filled most of the key positions for the proposed Parade with a staff of over 40 PCA Members from around the Zone, As we discussed in Tucson in February~ Regions in Zones 7 and 8 have for many years hosted speed events jointly with the Porsche Owners Club. Bob Gelles pointed out that our" insurance policy did not cover jointly sponsored events. To get around this problem, I asked Bob to call K & K and tell them that we wanted to buy insurance for speed events that would be managed jointly by a PCA Region and the Porsche Owners Club. The

result of Bob’s work was very favorable and we now have insurance for certain PCA Regions to put on events jointly with the Porsche Owners Club. Prior to the event, the Regions President sends a check to K & K in the amount of $81.00 and asks for a PCA Regional endorsement to the Porsche Owners Club insurance policy. This gives us $50,000 participant legal liability coverage. This check and request should be sent to K & K with the P.OoC, insurance order form. Regions that can be covered by the above procedure in 1983 include Los Angeles, Orange Coast, Golden Empire and Golden Gate. The second Zone 8 Slalom of the year has been scheduled for July 24, #983 at San Diego Stadium in San Diego, CA. A flyer is not out yet, so please contact Bill Bartee for more information. You can reach Bill at (714) 894-8434. Ron Hughes, Orange Coast Region, reports that plans are coming along nicely for the 1985 Zone 8 Parade Bid. The location that Ron has picked is Lake Arrowhead, CA. Mick Williams (National Parade Advisory Chairman) will be in California on June 11th to meet with Ron and to look over Lake Arrowhead. Hope to see you all

in Missouri .....

Legislative Bulletin 83-2 This Bulletin is to inform the membership of t0he Porsche Club of America that a pair of bills are now pending in Congress, which, if passed, would force most foreign car manufacturers to provide for a certain percent~ age of U.S. Content, in either material or labor, for all cars sold in the United States. The two bills are~ House of Representatives: H.R. 1234 U.S. Senate: S. 707

bills do nothing but arbitrarily remove foreign competition from U.S. manufacturers, competition that is healthy for the auto industry. U.S. cars are not selling because of their poor quality, high price, lack of overall performance, and generally because they a~e the wrong product in the marketplace. The U.S. con&~mer deserves a wide choice. These bills are a bandaid approach to trying to repair the ailing U.S. auto industry.

~-ne Porsche Club is OPPOSED to TO WRITE YOURCONGRESSMANI Use both of these bills. These bills the following addressl would arbitrarily limit competition to U.S. manufacturers by SENATE~ The Honorable John Doe forcing foreign manufacturers to United States Senate add "domestic content" to their Washington DC 20515 cars. Most manufacturers are not in a position to do so (Porsche The Honorable Sam Smith HOUSE: for example). While Porsche House of Representatives would NOT be immediately affected Washington DC 20515 by these bills, since we are considered part of the Volkswagen Please write or telex NOW. These organization in the U.S., and bills will be coming to a vote in VW would meet the present late July or early August. Make domestic requirements because sure that Porsches are still able of their Westmoreland, PA p~ant, to be bought in the United States. it is anticipated that Porsche could possibly be affected in the near future. Robert C. Rassa Legislative Liaison Since we do NOT desire the Chairman importing of Porsche cars to be hampered or forced to stop, or have the threat oÂŁ this pending, we urge you to write your Senator and your Congressman. Tell him you OPPOSE these bills, and urge him to vote AGAINST them. A PEC AL| 5 INC. simple hand-written note will do very well. So will a ~bort telegram. Merely state your opposition. ~~ To sum up this experience to date, I must admit, for the first thousand miles, I did not really like this car--for the next fifteen thousand I started to make friends with it, and after fifteen thousand, the friendship has been solidified. Solidified to the point that there would only be a _Darting of the ways when and if a significant increase in horsepower occurs. As for now, it’s one hell of a car. So far, so Good:
