The enjoyment and sharing of good will and fellowship engendered by owning a Porsche and

Porsche Cars North America SONOMA, CALIF--Rob Dyson was stuck in traffic, and knew he was going to miss the start of the Ford California Grand Prix August 3 at Sears Point International Raceway. So he convinced a guy on a motorcycle to speed him to the track, but not before he gave the keys to his $50,000 Porsche 944 Turbo to a couple ahead of him in the traffic jam. "1 just gave him my car keys and my business card," Dyson said. "1 asked him to find my rig in the paddock and park the car right there and give the keys to a guy in an orange suit." And that’s exactly what the mystery spectator did. After Dyson finished the race--which he won co-driving with Price Cobb--his street Porsche was right there in the
paddock,
"No, I’m not surprised J got my car back," Dyson said. "After talking to the guy for 20 seconds, I knew I could trust him. "1 knew I’d miss the start of the race if I didn’t do something, and leaving my car behind was the only thing I could do. I didn’t want to abandon it, so I just found

downeast ’86 The 31st annual gathering of Porsche-philesfromall over the country was held in Portland, Maine from August 3rd through the 10th this year. The Downeast Region of the PCA hosted and organized the multi-faceted event, Special thanks go to Parade Chairman Bill Gowen as well as many other hard-working Downeast members, including Lee andBrendaRoyandTom McKinney. The festivities were kicked off with a Lowenbrau sponsored Lobster Bake, and if you’ve never tasted fresh lobster cooked in seaweed, it’s worth a visit to Maine! Lowenbrau continuously supplied their famous brew to all. AI Hobert’s 962 was on exhibition at various places. The weather on Monday at Fort Williams Park by the sea was almost as gorgeous as the exquisitely prepared cars for the Concours d’Elegance which was sponsored by Porsche, with representatives from both Porsche AG and Porsche Cars North America. enioyed socializing with old friends as well as new acquaintances and the speakers included Peter Schutz, President of Porsche AG. Parade wine glasses were given to all and it was a fitting end to a week chock-full of PORSCHE-FUN! P.S. the 32nd Annual Porsche Parade will be held in Dallas, Texas and will be hosted by the Maverick Region. The speed event will be an autocross on an airplane anding strip, and a new activity will be added--radio :,ontrol Porsche time trials. See you there! ¯ Paul E. Friedman and Melodie Larimer
Donna and John Paterek of the Northern New Jersey Region had an inspiring turnout of Porsches from every era, both race and street versions. Highlights included three 904’s, a 906, a 908/2, a 910, and several 550 speedsters. Of course the Paterek’s own 1952 America roadster also glorified the ranks. As an added delight, all Porsches, regardless of condition were allowed to park in an adjacent grassy area. I’m sure the aerial photos of this sight will be awe-inspiring Delicious barbequed chicken was served to all as the judging ran late into the afternoon. Awards were presented that evening at a banquet held at the Cumberland Civic Center. Congratulations to Kirk and Joyce Shimazu whose meticulously prepared 1975 Carrera won its class and was judged for the Manhattan Award--quite an accomplishment! Autocross expert Dick Turner demonstrated the fastest way around the course in a Brumos supplied 924S, as well as on several walks around the track. The speed event as well as the awards celebration Thursday evening were sponsored by the B.F. Goodrich Tire Company who had an eighteen-wheeler stocked with tires and provided assistance at the track. Friday morning brought out 281 cars in the Yokohama Tire sponsored time-speed-distance rally. Veteran rallymaster Ted Ohland (of St. Valentine’s Massacre fame) did a masterful job of entertaining and perplexing both novices and experts alike. Best score of 122 points went to a car entered in the seat-of-the-pants class and the authors are proud to have come in twelfth in the same category among 229 contestants. notice of details of the event arrive within a few weeks of the event so it will not be forgotten. For events such as concours and time trials, we assume that the early calendar notice will give you time to begin preparation of your car with the details to arrive later. All of this is complicated when dates or details are changed. Further, please don’t forget that we are unpaid volunteers who are few in number and who have occupations, families and other obligations on our time. Even Tom Marx, our publisher, only charges enough to cover his costs, and must occsionally give time preference to his profitable accounts. Considering all of the above, we think we do a pretty good job of keeping you informed. Our track record certainly bears this out. While we have. admittedly, been often late for publication dates, event notices have almost always been timely. When we know we won’t make it on a local event, separate mailings
