Youth Centres

The Port Coquitlam Community Centre and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre Youth Centres are fully supervised and inclusive community spaces providing activities for youth. Our centres include billiard tables, foosball tables, table tennis, board games, video games, and other amenities. Both facilities have barrier-free opportunities for youth to make new friends, develop skills and gain knowledge needed for living an active and healthy lifestyle. Our Youth Recreation staff are available to help out with homework, projects, social skills, getting active, volunteering and having fun! Locations

FREE YAC CARD (YAC)
AND THE $15 YOUTH ACCESS CARD PLUS (YAC+) = DISCOUNTS
The free YAC gives you free access to billiards, foosball, table tennis, and other amenities. The YAC+ is available for a $15 annual fee and gives you free access to youth programs such as Drop-In Basketball and other youth specific paid programs. Both the YAC and YAC+ cards available for purchase at the Port Coquitlam Community Centre and Hyde Creek Recreation Centre.

SOCIAL NETIQUETTE This course equips youth with proper social etiquette, good citizenship, and critical thinking skills to stay safe online. Youth will learn how to safely navigate Social Networking Sites, learn the dangers of mobile phones and sexting, and develop skills to set boundaries, morals, values, and ethics. FOOD WITH FRIENDS
Learn basic food prep skills and get experience in a professional kitchen. Participants will work together to prepare a meal each week. Staff will oversee the creation of fun and delicious recipes for youth to learn to make. Age: 11–18

YOUTH AT HOME ALONE
Spending time at home alone while your parents are busy running errands or working? This course provides the skills needed to safely look after yourself. Interactive lessons and scenarios will help you and your parents feel more confident when you are home by yourself. Age: 10–13 FEE: $27.25
BABYSITTER INTENSIVE TRAINING
This intensive course covers the business of babysitting, caring for babies and toddlers, risk management, emergencies, first aid, feeding, sleeping, games, problem solving, and communication. FENCING– L1 TRAINING PROGRAM
Prerequisite: Fencing – Youth Beginners or Fencing – Children Beginners. Offered by the Tri–City Fencing Academy. After completion of a beginners program, students enter our L1 (9–10 yrs) or L1 (11+ yrs) training program. Younger students will be learning in this L1 program until they reach the age of 11, older students 3–9 months, as they develop strong technical sport fencing basics. Offered by the Tri–City Fencing Academy. Our youth program begins with a four–session introductory class, quickly teaching the basic actions of the sport, allowing students to progress in their skills in a short time. Fencing is a great cardiovascular workout, improving hand–eye co–ordination, concentration, mental focus and physical stamina. It provides a fun and competitive atmosphere that builds self–confidence and respect. All equipment is provided. FENCING – L2/3 TRAINING PROGRAM
Prerequisite: L1 Training Program offered by the Tri–City Fencing Academy. After graduation from an L1 program, fencers move into our L2 program. Students will be learning in the L2 program for 1–2 years as they move from basic skills to more advanced technical and tactical knowledge and more involvement in competitions. These programs are skills assessment based, using an advancement system from the Canadian Fencing Federation similar to other martial arts programs.
