Smart design optimises slope
from Melbourne Home
The home’s design takes advantage of its rear falling block to create a second accommodation zone, with a self-contained suite on a rear, lower ground level.
Asteeply sloped compact 585-square metre block inspired the design of this sophisticated single storey modern four-bedroom residence (422 square metres).

The home’s classically balanced façade features a projecting, protected entry, and combines render and Daniel Robertson Hawthorn Black bricks for sleek good looks, capped by streamlined Monier flat profile terracotta roof tiling.
To meet the client’s requirement for seamless outdoor living on a sharply falling site, Englehart integrated a covered alfresco along the north-facing side of the house. A large open plan family meals, living and kitchen embrace the alfresco, which has a built-in barbecue and stone benchtops.

Family living features a Jetmaster fireplace with a black granite hearth and mantle; and a fully equipped butler’s pantry adjoins the large kitchen with its substantial stone-clad island bench. Further living zones include a formal lounge, a media room and a hobby area.
The spacious main suite has a double-sided walk-in robe and luxurious en suite; the family bathroom and laundry separate two further ground floor bedrooms.
Englehart has used the site’s natural fall to include a self-contained basement suite with a living area, kitchenette, bedroom, private bathroom and walk-in robe.
Further highlights include large format lappato porcelain floor tiling through much of the ground floor; Miele appliances; a multi-room audio visual system; solar electricity and a ducted vacuum system.
