Art is Everything One of my earliest memories is of myself sitting in my parents bedroom at night, coloring in a picture of a cat in a grocery bag with vegetables and cans spilling out of the bag to make room for the cat. The only thing lighting the room was the television which at the time was playing some telenovela that my mom happened to be watching. I recall being almost in a trance when i was coloring; unaware of what was going on around me until i had finished, once i had completed my masterpiece my parents praised me for how well it was done. Unaware for how excited they had been about that coloring page, I was taken by surprise when i arrived home from school the next day and found that my parents had decided to frame the page and mounted it on my bedroom wall. That coloring page is still hanging on my bedroom wall today, and serves as a reminder to keep the child in me alive and use it to fuel my work.

Objective Event Poster
The largest convention celebrating and promoting Japanese animation; otherwise known as anime, in North America. The convention targets teenagers and young adults from ages 15 to 25 that have a strong interest and fascination with Japanese pop culture and animation. This series of posters plays on the nostalgia of those attending the convention, by featuring characters from well known anime that aired during the late 80’s and early 90’s. Silhouettes of two of the more prominent characters in each series helps to enhance the sense of nostalgia within the viewer. A black background was chosen to highlight the colors and illustration that lies within the silhouettes. Three different designs were made in order to promote the idea of something that is collectible, in this way not everyone who attends the convention will get the same poster.

Objective Menu
Final Round is a bar that seeks to bring a new experience to bar goers, by providing them with an environment in which they can drink and play video games with their friends. Targeting male gamers from ages 21-30, this bar stands out by providing the customer with classic arcade and console games. With a retro game concept as the driving force of the design, the colors that were used on the menu reflect the colors of classic 8-bit games; colors such as black, white, neon blue, pink , and yellow. An 8-bit treatment to both the logo and icons was applied in order to keep in line with the retro game concept and create a strong identity for the bar, that would help to enhance a customer’s image of the experience that could be expected at the bar.

Instructor Candice Lopez
Objective Book covers
The aim of this project is to create more effective book covers that better capture the feel of the story for the fans of the series, which include both males and females aged 20-35. Illustrations were chosen to replace the photographic covers that already exist, in order to better evoke what happens within any given volume. Each cover features a surrealistic line work drawing that features the animal of the house in which something shocking or important happens within the book, and turns into an item or a scene that is symbolic to that specific volume. For example the deer cover features house Baratheon and it turns into the fight at the Blackwater. The colors chosen for each cover are tied to the house whom is featured on the covers, in this case being gray, yellow, green, red, and black
Miyabi Airways Class Logo & Packaging
Instructor Min Choi
Objective Airline
Miyabi Airways is a Japanese domestic and international airline targeting young Japanese and foreign adventurers aged 20-30. Taking elements from Japanese culture, it re-introduces passengers to the beauty of Japan and it’s history. Using a calligraphic font as a base, the font was then altered with a mix of both digital and traditional tools in order to further highlight the look of Japanese calligraphy and create the logo. The logo is accompanied by a symbol that could be interchanged to represent the brand, the symbol features a scene in the sky that bears resemblance to Japanese family crests used in the 12th century. The colors used are based off of the Japanese flag, which are red, and white; however black was used for contrast.
Youkai Class Logo & Packaging
Instructor Min Choi
Objective Beverage Packaging
Youkai is a Japanese sake that prides itself on using the best Japanese ingredients it can find to create a crisp and smooth sake that males aged 21-35 can enjoy. Illustrations of Japanese demons were chosen as the main theme of the brand in order to make the brand more recognizable as a Japanese sake. The treatment of the illustrations is similar to that of Japanese tattoo work and helps to give the brand a more youthful look than what is already in the market. In order to give the brand a more Japanese feel a logo was made that features both the Japanese and English versions of Youkai. The Japanese demons chosen for the brand are what determined the colors used, blue was used for the lightning tiger, orange for the fox, and green for the dragon.
