COURSES/WORKSHOPS

Lifeline, a comprehensive series of adult fitness programs offered by the University of Southern Maine. Encompassing prevention, intervention and rehabilitation, the programs are designed to promote positive lifestyle changes through education and exercise. Programs include fitness testing, stress and lifestyle, smoking clinics, aerobic exer· cise, aerobic dance, body shop, yoga, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, senior lifeline and various recreation services. Classes in various programs are offered through. out the year; information on registration, schedules, times and fees can be obtained by calling the Lifeline office at 780-4170. Proprioceptive Writing Center, in Portland, offers work· shops whose goals are: to learn principles of creativity and thought; to locate one's creative center; and to develop a writing discipline. Individual counseling and monthly group sessions are available. The group sessions take a weekend; individual sessions can be flexibly designed. Automating Your Accounting Function, a seminar for non-profit organizations, takes place on February 25 from 9- a.m. to noon at the Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The three-hour seminar will cover issues involved in automating the accounting functions of small· to medium-sized non-profit organizations. The seminar will focus on: goals of automating your accounting; accounting information systems vs. management information systems; computerized vs. manual accounting information systems; systems approach vs. components approach to automa· tion; and some organizational impacts of automation. The organization's Fusion Fission grant supports the work of artists whose creative concepts transcend traditional a-rt disciplines to incorporate several media. It does not include traditional collaborations, such as music and dance or music and theater. This grant is intended to fund artists whose work often fails to receive financial support because it does not easily fall into rigid granting categories.
