A BENEFIT alternative. On Thursday, March 24, at 7:30, Zootz Dance Club will host an evening of alternative performance and visual art to benefit The AIDS Project, Inc. Entitled "Alternative Medium~ ~~88." the evening will feature 10 performance pieces and the work of 10-15 local painters and sculptors, including the Casco Bay Movers, puppeteer Martha Enson, sculptor Nelson Lowery, and artist Andy Verzosa. Alternative Mediums 1988 was the inspiration of P.S.A. student Abi Spring, left, and is being organized by Spring, Christine Marshall (right), and Lisa Lattes.

NOW you can go either way! United Airlines officially entered the Portland Jetport flight pattern recently by announcing a new marketing agreement, effective February 6, with Presidential Airways whereby the latter will share United's two-letter designator code and become a United Express carrier. The joint venture will offer 134 expanded daily departures, shared one-stop checking ticket counters, and combined mileage credits for passengers.

LOOK FOR the Shrine Circus at the Civic Center on April 18, 19, and 20. It's the 32nd consecutive year the circus has delighted Portlanders.

PARITY, NOT CHARITY was called for by Jesse Jackson when he spoke at the University of Southern Maine on February 11 to a capacity crowd of 3,000 in the gym. Jackson's appearance was sponsored by the department of public policy.

SCHOONER FARE sails into town for a Pops Concert with the Portland Symphony on April 9 at 8:30 p.m. and April 10 at 3 p.m. City Hall Auditorium. Tickets are $21, $17, $13, and $8, and are available at the Symphony box office.
