Bridge Buddies Educational Preschool

Polly McCourt has an interesting and varied background working with children and families. For the last 9 years she has taught Preschool – 2nd grade at Trillium Charter School in north Portland. She is the mother of six children varying in age from 13 to 25 and has lived in Portland for the past 20 years, hailing from Brooklyn, New York. Polly has been deeply involved in education and schools in Portland. She says “I believe strongly in school choice and finding a school that fits your individual child. I enjoy small children tremendously. I believe in the power of play, art, story and experience. I strongly believe in exposure to books. Books and stories are a fundamental building block of literacy for children.”

Bridge Buddies Classes:

Patty McCord has been teaching for more than 30 years with experiences ranging from rural Vale, OR to the Portland metro area. She is a state licensed and certified teacher and has taught preschool in SUN Community School programs as well as substituting full time. Patty says, “My flexibility helps me to facilitate life long learners by using cooperative learning situations incorporated in thematic units across curriculum. I enjoy teaching academics and physical education to all levels of students. Patty is also enjoys reading, making greeting cards, scrapbooking, gardening, belly dance and yoga.

Intergenerational classes

Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that music lessons improve listening skills, concentration and memory. Music students also have been shown to do better on standardized tests and achieve higher grades in school. In addition, children who take music lessons learn to think creatively and to solve problems by imagining various solutions. Give your child or yourself the gift that lasts a lifetime!

Tae Kwon Do age: 7& up Join over 40 million people who practice this Korean martial art. Increase agility & strength while improving coordination using kicks, punches & blocks. The community centers of North Portland are now working in collaboration to offer youth athletic leagues for basketball. Practices will take place at St. John’s Community Center and all games will be held on Fridays at Charles Jordan Community Center. These non-competitive athletic leagues for boys and girls emphasize participation, safety and fun. Scores and standings are not kept with emphasis placed on sportsmanship and skill development.

Unplugged We spend our days engaged in active, creative, and social activities that involve very little or no screen time.

Registration

Camps fill quickly, so register early. If you need to withdraw, a full refund will only be issued if the notice is given by noon on the Friday before camp starts. Prorated refunds will be given after that. Withdrawals made less than three days in advance will be assessed a $15 withdrawal fee.

Payment Payment is due prior to the camp start date. You may pay the entire balance at the time of registration, or you can pay a down payment of $10 per week and schedule your payments to be due Monday prior to the camp’s start date.

Structure & Variety

We include a variety of activities to keep young minds and bodies active and challenged. Free choice and relaxation time provides a chance to enjoy low-key activities between more in-depth, structured projects and games. All children are encouraged to participate, but never forced. Does your workday start before our program begins? Drop off the kids for informal recreational activities so you’re on time! Read books, play games, develop new skills & shoot hoop in a safe & positive environment!
