HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE at PortlandParks.org – Click on the “Register” top tab. Search for classes by age, category, location, or keyword – or narrow your search by specific activity or course number. PHONE – Call any PP&R site. You may also phone in your registration to the PP&R Customer Service Center at 503-823-2525, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm. Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover Card accepted with phone-in registration. IN PERSON – Any PP&R facility can process your registration, including the Customer Service Center located at 111 Southwest Columbia Street on the 6th Floor, Suite 660. All Community Centers are open for walk-in registration during business hours. MAIL – Mail your completed registration form found in the back of the guide to the program center address. NON-RESIDENT PRICING The prices listed in this guide are the discounted rates for City of Portland residents. Persons residing outside of the City boundaries are charged an additional 40% because they do not pay taxes that support Portland Parks & Recreation. For those planning on registering for multiple activities, we offer a Non-Resident Discount Pass, which allows purchasers to pay resident prices for the year. Purchase at any community center. Individual $65/year | Family* $130/year *Family denotes a couple (married or domestic partner) or single parent and their legal dependents living in the same household.

Take the Right Steps: Fall Prevention Education for Older Adults
The opportunity to help reduce falls among older adults has never been better. Legacy Health Trauma Nurses Talk Tough (TNTT) program provides falls prevention education to older adults. Take the Right Steps workshop is a solution to helping older adults learns to self-manage their risk of falls. This workshop will engage older adults, build confidence, empower, and encourage older adults to manage their own health. The workshop focuses on the risk factors that contribute to senior falls such as: medication side effects, poor vision, poor balance, difficulty walking, and home hazards. Hike for Health and the Advanced Hike for Health are transported in 15 passenger vans. Primary Pick Up Location 82nd and Siskiyou. Park facing 82nd. Meet 15 minutes prior to departure time. If indicated, certain hikes will have a second pickup location. Hikers meeting there must have a cell phone number on file and be available by phone the morning of the hike. Secondary Pick Up Locations When a secondary pickup location is scheduled (indicated by a bold “E”, “S” or “W” in the hike description), participants should arrive at the location approximately 20 minutes after the primary pick up departure time. MILES/ELEVATION Miles are given for a round trip, except for loop or shuttle hikes, which are one-way. Elevation is cumulative elevation gain, adding all uphill portions. PREREQUISITES The Senior Recreation hiking program offers 3 distinct and sequential levels. As individuals gain strength and endurance they may choose to qualify to longer and more difficult hikes. Hikers can do so either at the quarterly Hike for Health Qualifier or on a designated Metro Mover or Hike for Health hike. The free orientation is also required to all walkers and hikers new to the Senior Recreation program. Hike Level 1 Metro Movers Ability to walk a continuous 25-minute mile on uneven surfaces without shortness of breath. Please sign up for walks that you are confident you can complete. Hike Level 2 Hike for Health Must attend the Hike for Health Qualifier or a designated Metro Mover to be eligible for Hike for Health. Participants must notify the hike leader before attempting to qualify. The majority of the hike is uphill and downhill with stair climbing (100 steps) included. Paths are gravel and forest floor. The climb to the summit involves a 370-foot elevation gain. Please be prepared with hiking boots and gear as discussed in the required Hiking Orientation. Prerequisite: Must be able to walk a 25-minute mile on uneven surfaces without shortness of breath. STANDARD HIKING SUPPLIES Standard supplies for Metro Movers, Hike for Health, and Advanced Hike for Health • Appropriate footwear: either hiking boots or equivalent with lugged soles for trails, sturdy shoes for walks • Clothing layers which wick well and allow you to maintain a comfortable temperature in hot and cold conditions, preventing condensation from sweat: - a lightweight, breathable base layer - a middle warmth layer - a rain jacket as third or outer layer (also serves as windbreaker) and optional rain pants • Hat: wide-brimmed in summer, warm in winter • Gloves: under cold weather conditions, including high altitude in spring/fall • Water: enough for the hike length, adjusting for temperature, elevation gain and sun exposure. Architecture of Sacred Spaces Guided Walk
Discover the history of Portland architecture through the stories of its religious communities. Even before Portland became a city, fur trappers, traders, and other settlers had established places of worship in the Willamette Valley. As the city grew in the 19th and 20th centuries, so did the number of religious communities, each of which erecting stunning houses of worship. Your guide will lead you in a study of visual motifs, historic styles, and local history and center your learning in a historical context. Portland features excellent examples of Gothic Revival, Carpenter Gothic, Northwest Modernism, and many other architectural styles. Be prepared to walk up to 3 miles over the course of 2.5 hours. Yuletide Tea at Newell House
Celebrate the holiday season within the decked halls of the historic Newell House. This annual Yuletide Tea features a fourcourse meal and live music hosted in the dining room. The home is decorated for the holidays. We will arrive a little early to take in the collection. Tea begins at 1pm. Program fee includes the cost of tea. Please note that special dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated. Mobility Rating: This trip is not accessible to mobility devices such as walkers, wheelchairs or motorized scooters. REGISTRATION Receipt of full payment is required for registration, unless otherwise arranged. Please call if you receive a returned check or declined bank card notice, either of which void registration. RESIDENT / NON-RESIDENT A resident is: • anyone who occupies a permanent residence inside the city limits of Portland. At the discretion of a Community Center Director, proof of home address may be required. Acceptable address verification may include a 1) drivers license, 2) Oregon ID card, 3) property tax statement, 4) utility bill or lease agreement with current home address. • any child living within the school boundaries of the Reynolds and Centennial School Districts who is attending a SUN Community School. Through a partnership between the City and County, a child attending a SUN Community School is eligible to register for programs at any SUN Community School location without paying a non-resident surcharge. Anyone else is considered a non-resident (NR) and will be assessed a 40% surcharge. NR surcharges do not apply to drop-in activities. Non-residents who wish to register for PP&R activities may choose one of these options: • Pay the additional 40% NR fee. • Purchase a NR fee discount pass as either an individual or family. The NR discount pass is good for one year and takes 25% off the NR fee for the activity. Inquire about this option at time of registration. These passes are not refundable. Non-resident Pass Prices: 3-month pass: individual $25; family $50 6-month pass: individual $45; family $90 9-month pass: individual $65; family $130 A family denotes a couple (married or domestic) or a single parent and their legal dependents living in the same residence. CLASS ENROLLMENT Our classes must meet minimum and maximum enrollment standards. Classes may fill quickly or be canceled due to low enrollment. WITHDRAWAL AND REFUNDS Please notify us at least five (5) business days (Monday– Friday), unless otherwise specified, before the start of your program so that we can refund or credit your account for the registration fee. Pre-paid materials and admission tickets cannot be refunded. Participants needing to withdraw after the program has begun are offered a prorated credit or refund based upon when the request is made. SCHOLARSHIPS City of Portland residents, regardless of age, who require financial assistance may apply for partial scholarships. Contact individual centers for information. HOW TO REQUEST INCLUSION SERVICES • Choose the activity you would like to participate in and register for that class. • Contact Inclusion Services at 971-284-5060. • If this is your first time requesting accommodations through Inclusion Services, you will need to complete either a phone intake or an Accommodation Form that can be sent over email. This process is to help determine what level of accommodation needed for the participant. • Future assistance will be provided based on need. The inclusion staff will work with the instructor on how to support you and your individual needs. IMPORTANT DETAILS ABOUT INCLUSION SERVICES • A general program may be adapted using auxiliary aids and services, but the basic structure of the program remains the same. • Accommodations are made as needed and can be flexible, as well creative. • Participants need to register for activities that are intended for their birth age. • Personal care is provided for activities for individuals up to age 12. • For sign language interpreter please call 2 working days prior to the class. • We request at least 5 working days’ notice prior to start of class. PHOTO POLICY Portland Parks & Recreation (PP&R) reserves the right, and may give permission to the media, to photograph classes, programs, and participants at any of our facilities and properties or any sponsored activity. If you do not wish to be photographed, please inform staff and we will make reasonable efforts to honor your request. If you see staff taking pictures, and you do not wish to be photographed, please let us know. If you see a photo of yourself or a family member that causes you concern, please notify us. As a courtesy, we will make every reasonable effort to dispose of the image, and will not use it in future publications. INCLEMENT WEATHER If the City of Portland public school districts (Portland Public, Parkrose, David Douglas, Reynolds, and Centennial) are closed because of weather conditions, PP&R classes and youth basketball in those school districts may be canceled. We recommend that you check in with your community centers for the latest information about individual registered programs and activities. Some recreation programs may run as conditions and instructor availability allow. Decisions to operate on a specific site basis are made when it is determined that all programs may operate safely. Call the specific PP&R facility for information and opening/closing times.
