YEAR 11 SCIENCE REVISION SESSIONS

Wednesday - Physics Thursday - Chemistry Friday - Biology All sessions will run from 1:10-1:45pm/H1

Noticeboard Library

Did you know that our library has a large number of interesting non-fiction books? November is the month to appreciate non-fiction and it is a very appropriate time for it too as several students have told me how much they enjoy it recently. Explore topics you are interesting by searching for keywords in our library catalogue. Non-fiction can be the poor relation to fiction and reading for pleasure which is often the highlight in our school library. We often read novels for pleasure but we can also learn so much about the world around us from fact books.

We will focus on non-fiction in library lessons this month and I will ask students to recommend more non-fiction that they would like to see in our school library.

News Portland Place School and Livingstone Tanzania Trust... £1,900 raised!

I’m sure it does not come as a surprise to anyone but, unfortunately, our Tanzania Expedition has been cancelled again. We were all very sad that the Portland Place trip to Tanzania could not happen last year and LTT’s hopes are that they can welcome us back there in Summer 2022. Team Tanzania was made of Joshua Hallam, Amitis Jafari-Pak, Jude Brooke-Cowden, Tommy TaylorWhiteread, Daisy Lewell, Freddie Goold, Eleonora Giust, Lulya Benyam and Jay Sampson. They worked so hard towards their fundraising ahead of the expedition, it is only fair that we recognise their enthusiasm and ambition towards the project. PPS community has come together to support them many times, and they would like to thank everyone who bought “bricks” for their project. (Names of contributors are on display in PPS 58)

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to improve the water, sanitation and hygiene standards in schools across Babati.

News LTT, in conjunction with our delivery partners (MCDO) and the Babati Town Council, have developed a programme to tackle these challenges.

The aims of the programme are 3-fold: 1. 2. 3.

Improve the quality of the toilets and ensure they meet the needs of the girls Improve the hand washing facilities and ensure a supply of soap Establish WASH Clubs in schools to support peer to peer learning of hand hygiene and will include puberty education and discussion

All together as a school, and especially thanks to Team Tanzania, we have raised ÂŁ1,900 that will be sent to LTT for their work towards the programme. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to helping Team Tanzania one way or another last year and we hope that we can do more work with LTT again very soon! Mr Lalande and Team Tanzania

News Haunted House 2020 Here’s the link for the Year 6/7 Haunted House recording. The students created and performed their own monologues and music and there are some brilliant performances by Georgie, Kit and Mr Bradbury! Enjoy!

News English as an Additional Language I am very lucky to work with four exceptional Year 6 students (Fritzi, Susan, Mia and Daniil) and they continue to impress me. Today they’ve practised their presentation skills and shared with us very interesting information about their home countries.

Well done for your ongoing determination to succeed, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence! I am very proud of all of you! Miss Florea

Sports report Y9 House Football Just before the school broke up for half term on Friday afternoon, our Year 9s took part in house football

at Regents Park. They played a round-robin tournament of 15 minute, 6-a-side games, with the winning team being decided on points or goal difference. The first round of matches saw favourites Langham put 7 past Cavendish in an incredible display of attacking football. Jessy Fryer-Jacobs managed 4 goals, including one phenomenal strike from twenty yards, into a mini goal. On the other pitch Devonshire held Wigmore to a 1-1 draw with goals from Rudy Bigoni and James Eadally. In round two, Langham continued their winning ways with a 4-0 defeat of Wigmore. Jessy claimed another hat trick and Edwin Hounkanli claimed his third of the day, having netted twice in the first match. Meanwhile, Cavendish bounced back from their heavy loss to put two past Devonshire courtesy of Lawton Ballbach and Sid De Rosario.

Sports report In the final round of matches, Cavendish knew a win against Wigmore would secure them second place

and they romped to a 4-0 victory with a tremendous display of accurate shooting from Lloyd Day, who scored all 4 of their goals. On the adjacent pitch, Devonshire held overall winners Langham, to a more respectable score line, losing just 2-1. Jessy Fryer-Jacobs claimed a single goal to take his tally to 8 goals, the tournament’s top scorer. Langham were hotly fancied from the start this year. They had a strong squad with Tom Hallam retaining much possession and distributing the ball well to players like Jessy Fryer-Jacobs, whose shooting was first -rate and Edwin Hounkanli, whose pace and ball dribbling caused much difficulty to other the houses’ defences. Well done to all that played. Once again, it was a pleasure to see literally all the boys contributing significantly to their teams. Overall Results:

1st Langham

2nd Cavendish

3rd Devonshire

4th Wigmore

Sports report Fencing On Wednesday afternoon, Portland Place fencing club got underway in GPS hall. Ten budding fencers donned their masks in what may be the most Covid-friendly sport available right now. Our students worked on some basics, including the en garde position, moving forward and backward correctly and making basic thrusts. Well done to all who attended.
