Noticeboard Book Buzz Update Year 7 and 8 are patiently waiting for their books to arrive but while that is happening, several students have decided to work their way through the list. Kit Jones (Year 7), used some free time in the library to start and finish a funny historical read, Icarus Was Ridiculous by Pamela Butchart. Well done Kit! This book will appeal to students who are fans of the Horrible Histories series by Terry Deary.
Noticeboard Book of the Week I’m currently working my way through the Book Buzz list and I am really enjoying City of Ghosts . It is the story of Cassidy, who can see ghosts.
A trip to Edinburgh with her parents, specialists in the paranormal, has unexpected consequences when she comes face to face with a ghostly presence, The Woman in Red, in the city’s oldest graveyard. Who is she, and why does she seem to be attracting children towards her? This is an enjoyable book for Year 7 and 8 which will be enjoyed by fans of ghost stories and adventure lovers. I also enjoyed that the book was set in Edinburgh and all the references to the landmarks and history. Victoria Schwab is an interesting author, there are more books in this series and other books too.

News ODD SOCKS DAY! In order to promote Anti-Bullying Week and celebrate what makes us all unique, we asked all Y6-7 students to wear odd socks on Friday! We are entering into a competition to win best picture, so the brighter/wackier the better! Last year PPS won this competition and we’re hoping we can do it again this year!
Note: the photo took less than 5 minutes to take and students only removed their masks for the photo itself

Noticeboard TuneUp Tuesday On Tuesday 24th November, a national Twitter campaign is taking place called #TuneUp Tuesday. The aim is to give schools across the country the opportunity to celebrate the impact of the Arts in the development and mental health of young people in the UK.
The aim is to also highlight how vital the arts are in our culture, and how important it is that they are protected and sustained through the pandemic, whilst continuing to encourage young people to pursue a career in this amazing industry.
At PPS on Tuesday we will be encouraging all students to take part in short creative tasks across the day, including joining an online assembly to celebrate the Arts.
Keep an eye on the school Twitter accounts @PPSMusicDept @PPSEnglish1 @PortlandPlArts @PPSGeog @Year8_PPS @PPSBiology @pps_maths @ThomasLalandePP (MFL) @PortlandPlaceHd for photos and videos of the activities taking place and we’ll review them all in the Weekly Buzz next week.

Sports report Sports Leadership in Enrichment Throughout the term a group of year 8s, 9s, 10s and 11s has been working towards their SLQ Level 1 Qualification in Sports Leadership during enrichment sessions on Wednesday afternoons. This is a nationally accredited Sports Leadership Award for young learners that enables our pupils to take the first steps on the ladder in sports leadership and coaching, by assisting in leading purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity sessions, under direct supervision. Skills visited include communication, preparation, planning, organisation and leadership qualities, as well as health and safety, including Covid awareness and protocols.
Year 8’s Sonny Shelton outlines his session to the group
Over the last two weeks our pupils have been completing their first of two practical observation assessments, in which they have been leading chunks from their session plans. The PE department has been very impressed with the improvements made and the growing confidence of our pupils’ delivery and coaching skills. The sessions they led were well-conceived, with very good progressions and lots of posi-
tive reinforcement and praise throughout.
