Noticeboard Christmas Concert 2020 With the current restrictions, unfortunately we are not able to invite parents, family and friends to our

annual Christmas Concert. However, we are very pleased that RADA Studios are still open for recordings and therefore we will be taking students to perform and record solos and items by the PPS Choir on Tuesday 8th December. We will then edit together the performances and the compiled version will be made available later next week via the school website. Rehearsals next week will therefore be as follows: 

Mon 7th - Choir rehearsal during Period 5 in PPS Hall



Tues 8th - 10:00-12:45 - Soloists recordings at RADA; 13:50-15:45 - Choir recording at RADA (All students will be in school for lunch and be back at PPS before the end of the school day)

Thanks to all the students for their work and preparation in such tricky times, and also to the parents and staff for their continued support. We look forward to sharing our 3rd virtual performance of 2020 with

you soon, The Music Department.

News Maths On the 6th of October 2020, the UK Mathematics Trust Mathematical Olympiad for Girls was held online for the first time and a number of talented mathematicians from Portland Place School took part. The competitors were Miyu Aikawa from Year 9 and Laura Liu and Irene Peleteiro Paniagua from Year 10. Irene, Laura and Miyu are seen here holding their testimonial letters, which were awarded by the UKMT in recognition of their fantastic efforts.

The Maths Department and the School congratulate our competitors and look forward to the next UKMT Challenge, which will be the Intermediate Challenge, and will take place on 1st of February 2021.

News English as an Additional Language This week is about my lovely students who attend PPS Virtual School: Anna Osinina (Year 7), Davyd Vyshniakov (Year 7) and Volodymyr Vyshniakov (Year 9). They turn up to the EAL lesson every Wednesday morning, joyful and ready to develop their language skills. Recently I have asked them to think about their biggest achievements in 2020 and they have all come up with lovely answers. Among other things, Anna has launched her YouTube channel, Davyd is very happy he has joined PPS and Volodymyr has greatly developed his English skills.

Well done for being so resilient and hardworking! Special thanks go to their form tutor, Miss Ambreen Baig, who is incredibly supportive, resourceful and efficient. Thank you, Miss Florea

Sports report Portland Place Table Tennis This inter-house event will be getting under way after the Christmas holidays and should allow many of our pupils the chance to get involved in some competitive table tennis matches. Here is a piece from Mr Steward telling pupils all about it: Do you think you are the next House Champion? Are you willing to put it all on the line to gain success? If so, this is your time to shine. Beginning in January, we as a PE Department have created a Table Tennis Tournament for all students from Year 6 to Year 11. The tournament will see students battle it out against each other until we find Portland Place’s Champion of Champions.

At the beginning of the Tournament you may play against your friends but later on in the Tournament you could be playing someone in a different Year group and of a different ability. This is where you will show us just how good you are at Table Tennis.

The Tournament will take place during lunchtimes throughout the Term after Christmas and is open to all students who would like to get involved.

The girls football tournament is to run on the 12th January from 11-1pm, after Christmas, giving all the girls an opportunity to show off their football skills learnt during this term. The event will be a five a-side event held at the 3G pitches at PlayFootball. Year 8 House Fitness Challenge gets under way As with House competitions, points will be allocated accordingly. Years 6, 7 & 8 will play against each other in a separate lower-school tournament and Years 9, 10 & 11 will compete in the upper-school event to take some points home for their respective houses. Full PE kit is required along with football boots and shin pads (optional). In case of poor weather please ensure that pupils have their wet weather PE tops. A small snack will be provided on the day!
