Post 16 Noticeboard Post 16 Advice Year 10 & 11 Year 10 & 11 students had a session on Uni Frog where they learned how to log in, search and shortlist Sixth Form options and they also completed a personality quiz. Students can explore different careers and research the pathway to get there. You can save your options. So far, the majority of students are interested in careers in the Arts and Media. Do take some time to explore further options with them. Preparing for A-Level From 22 April, Kensington Park School launches a series of lectures as an opportunity for Year 10 & 11 students to explore areas of interest in a fun way outside the classroom. There are cool topics to inspire students as they start to prepare for A-levels and further studies. The lectures are free and will take place on Teams from 5.30pm – students just need to register in advance at: https://www.kps.co.uk/NewPerspectives

Focus on Sixth Form Ashbourne College has been a popular post-16 option for some of our students in the past few years. I visited this week, and Chris Mutter their Head of Admissions is available to talk to prospective students and their parents. They are now doing tours, as restrictions have eased.

Focus on Sixth Form The next virtual open evening at DLD College London is being held on 13 May and will feature a selection of speakers and current students for the Q&A. They are able to offer in-college private tours now so if individual families wish to visit in person, do email dld-admissions@dld.org

Post 16 Noticeboard Further Resources I frequently update our Firefly pages with websites and resources on careers. Please have a look under Firefly – Resources – Non- Subject Departments and Post 16 Noticeboard. For more info contact me at: belinda.carvalho@portland-place.co.uk

Wellbeing at the heart of PPS This week marked the launch of our brand new Coaching Programme! Y6 & 7 began both mornings with a meditation and some grounding activities before starting the Communicating with Kindness module, while Y8 began their programme during Wednesday afternoon enrichment with a calming and relaxing 'Head and Heart' check-in before beginning their work on the Listening and Questioning module. The atmosphere across all sessions was beautiful as we heard calm, relaxing music accompanying thought-provoking discussions, leaving all participants feeling very relaxed, calm and peaceful. Our students were focused and engaged throughout both sessions and responded

very positively to the new initiative. We are looking forward to seeing how it progresses, and the impact it has over the coming weeks.

Sports report Year 8 Inter-House Table Tennis With competition at a high during the final two weeks of the Winter Term and a number of inter-house tournaments going on, the Year U13 boys were ready to battle for the right to call themselves Champion of Year 8!! With Maxim Mydlar pulling the names out of the hat, it led to Cavendish’s Maxim and Miles Sellens–Flack battling against Wigmore’s Sonny Shelton and Ali Abdel – Khaleq and then the other Quarter Final pitting Devonshire’s Gabriel Aldis and Lucas Parker against Langham’s Remy Brooke– Cowden and Albert Thompson. All of the Quarter Finals were tightly fought battles and there was no let off for any of the players, with toing and froing throughout and some of the favourites falling behind, but in turn bringing it back to make the semi-finals even more of a battle.

The semi-finals saw Maxim take on Sonny and Remy to reignite the Devonshire, Wigmore rivalry when he was challenged against Gabriel. There were some fantastic skills shown throughout the matches and in turn there were some exuberant celebrations from both players and fans alike. After some confident starters from Sonny who took a good lead, a ray of elite-styled shots by Cavendish’s leading player led to him pulling back the lead and taking a victory of 15-11 whilst a commanding 15-5 victory for Gabriel saw the match up for the Final. Susan Li

Sports report With the finalists keeping their cool and working on some shots on other tables, i Sonny played Remy in the 3rd and 4th place playoff. It was a tense battle between the two with the lead changing hands on a

number of occasions and some frustration being shown by both. But, inevitably Sonny was too strong for Remy and took the bronze medal 15 -11.

Into the final we went. The two men throughout the lessons had not lost a game but today someone’s undefeated title was going to go. As thought, the final threw out some fantastic table tennis, but it was Maxim’s backhand causing a number of issues for Gabriel, who in time realised this and started to use his own techniques to push the game down to the wire. With the score heading back and forth, it came down to some great shot execution by Maxim, which led to him snatching victory and leaving the lesson as Year 8’s Champion in Inter-house Table Tennis. Sports report Year 9 House Tag Rugby An hour before the lesson it was pouring down with rain, students were nervous and the rugby balls were slippery, but just like that, the rain stopped, the excitement started to take over and the anticipation of a fantastic Tag Rugby Tournament was about to come to the forefront. With the Tag Tournament for Year 9 being a mixed competition, it was exciting to see what the students were going to bring to the table in wet and windy conditions. The group was mixed with students who play rugby at every opportunity, to those students who were only playing in competitive matches for the first time. It was going to be a very fun and energetic Friday afternoon. It was a battle to end all battles right from the start of the tournament with Wigmore and Langham starting and resulting in a close 25-20 victory for Langham. There was nothing but attack with Leo Newberry going over the line three times and Edwin Hounakanli, Jessy Fryer-Jacobs and Kai Ibrahim holding off any fight back that Wigmore may have had.

On the other field it was a dominant performance by Devonshire who brushed Cavendish aside with four tries from Rudy Bogni and three from Teddy Faulkner. This was to be the start a fantastic tournament for the Devonshire team, but it was also a great start for Oscar Brett who scored the first of his number of tries throughout the tournament.

Sports report With their first win of three under their belt it was time for Wigmore to see if they could bring down Teddy and his team but it wasn’t meant to be. Devonshire were too powerful and with some stunning

back-up play, another brace from Leo couldn’t deny Devonshire another emphatic win, with Lana Tuite dotting down a brace for herself. Edwin was again on the scoreboard along with Jemima-Frances Hyam as Langham kept up their unbeaten start by pushing aside Cavendish, led by Lloyd Day, who himself slid over the try line but was unable to stop the speed and precision of Langham who seemed to put a slow start behind them and came out victorious 30-10.

Cavendish were next-up against Wigmore and it was another stand-out performance from their talisman, Leo who went over for another double. But his was unable to stop some superb offloading by Isabella Trautman, who opened up the Wigmore defence to allow Oscar to slide his way over the line. However, Wigmore’s never say die attitude was shown throughout as James Eadally and Kai Ibrahim used their power and pace to come close, but with Miyu Aikawa and Isaac Gordon holding out the defence and a fantastic solo try by Sid De Rozario, Cavendish were able to hold onto a great 20 – 10 victory. With 3 wins out of 3, it was going to be another battle for Devonshire who were to take on a very spirited Langham squad who had only just lost to them in the previous game. However, the roles were about to be reversed, with the Devonshire team seemingly tiring. The speed of Langham plus the fighting defence of Raiyan Izad seemed to make Langham a different team. The final was full of running, even Mr Steward, as a referee, was finding it hard to keep up with the end-to-end battle that was happening. It was a masterclass of speed from Edwin and Jessy that clinched the title for Langham in what was a fantastic tournament.

Sports report Year 6 & 7 House Tag Rugby Langham Heat Up a Hot Regents Park The sun was shining, the temperature was soaring, and Regents Park was full of sunbathers, but there was no time to relax for Yr 6&7, who were out to clinch the final Interhouse Competition of the term. With the cross country being sorted on Monday and the table tennis a week before it was time for the tag rugby to take over and the students to battle it out for the outright winner and what a start it was. With the rules given out, it was a closely fought match between Cavendish and Langham that was to be played out. With both defences holding tight and attacks coming off second best it was a brilliant team try by Langham that allowed Humphrey Boland to dive in at the corner in the dying seconds, which was the

clincher for a strong Langham team. The scores carried on being tight with Wigmore and Devonshire upping the heat with a fantastic try by Olivia Solomou and an equally impressive solo try by Harrison Brudenell-Turpie, which led to a toughly fought defeat for Devonshire.

There was no rest for Devonshire who stayed on the pitch to take on a strong Cavendish. Even after a superb start which saw side-stepping magician Rafer Moge weave his magic, Devonshire were unable to slow down a strong and powerful Cavendish team which saw Fritzi Jacklofsky and Hazuki Kita slide over the line and earn a well fought 15-5 victory.

Sports report It was down to the wire and this was shown by the final two games within the competition. The first saw a fantastic full length of the pitch run by Harrison, the only score in a very, very close game against Wigmore which saw Georgie Cox, a stand in for the Blue team, have a try taken away from her by a last-gasp grab by Fritzi to seal the win and a vital point for Cavendish. Then there was the last match of the competition which saw Max, Danny and Humphrey all score against a deflated Devonshire squad. Although this was the case there was a fabulous solo try by Rafer who left the whole Langham team on the floor as he stepped, weaved and sped past each and every one of them. The try, which is up there with the best of every competition in each year was cheered and applauded, not just by the students but the crowds of people who happened to be watching from the side line! The side-stepping magician reminded Mr Kubik, Mr Steward and Miss Boyce of a young Shane Williams, leaving everyone in his dust!! What a way to finish the completions of the term which saw Langham clinch the top spot closely followed by Cavendish, leaving Wigmore and Devonshire battling for the bronze medal, which Wigmore grabbed with two hands! A fantastic showing by the student who gave everything in the searing heat!

Sports report Year 8 House Tag Rugby On Monday 29/03 year 8 competed in their much-anticipated house tag rugby tournament. It was an excellent afternoon with a number of extremely tight matches between the houses. There were last ditch tag tackles, mazy runs and some impressive handling on display. In the opening game Cavendish beat Langham 15-10 with 3 tries to 2 in a closely fought contest. The other round one match saw Wigmore record a 10-5 victory over Devonshire in a highly competitive match. In round 2 Devonshire scored a late try to take a 15-10 win over tournament favourites Cavendish in a tense and entertaining encounter. In the following fixture Wigmore won 10-5 against Langham, with Sonny Shelton scoring an outstanding last -gasp try to take the victory.

Sports report As year 8 went into the final round of group games, the tournament was wide open and could be decided in a number of ways. At this stage Devonshire had one win and one loss, where Langham had 2 losses. In

a fast-paced end to end match up it was Devonshire who took a 15-5 win. In the other match Wigmore had two wins and Cavendish had one win and one loss – this meant if Cavendish won, both teams would be level on points. The game was a little scrappy with both teams showing good line speed and forcing the other into mistakes. The final score was 15-15, a high scoring draw which meant Wigmore finished the tournament undefeated and took the year 8 house rugby title! It was a highly enjoyable afternoon with all matches played in a good spirit. Please see a list of try scorers and the final result below. 3 tries
