Letter from the Headmaster
We closed the Spring term with three fantastic performances of Bugsy Malone, rightly celebrated elsewhere in these pages. This was an epic production with casting and rehearsals starting way back in the Autumn term. Years 6 to 10 were involved, in the end almost half the school. JW3 once again was a super venue. It really showed PPS, our students and our creative arts team at their very best. We had excellent performances from the whole cast, great accompaniment from the band and a well-drilled team of stage hands and backstage crew. It was great to see students who had only recently joined PPS step forward and get involved with their new friends and classmates. For the first time we staged a matinee for prep and primary schools - a very successful event in its own right giving a number of students who will be joining us in September a taste of the opportunities they will have available and the high standards we reach. This also meant three performances in two days for the whole cast and crew with the two sold-out evening performances attracting high praise from everyone who saw them. There were some justifiably tired people on the last Friday. My special thanks to Mr Chivers, Mr Hill, Miss Boyle and Miss Judd who worked tirelessly with our students to achieve all this. JW3 is booked again for next year’s production. I simply wait for Mr Chivers and Mr Hill to decide what it will be! 3

NEWS Year 7 Year 7 had a fascinating trip to the Geological Society in Burlington House on Monday 29th April. They participated in an interactive workshop about their topic on Plate Tectonics and undertook a competition to design structures that could withstand earthquakes.
Year 6 On Wednesday 1st May, Year 6 visited the Ragged School Museum in East London where they had a real lesson set in 1889 and given by the indomitable Miss Perkins. Students donned caps to get in character and learnt the importance of the phrase “silence is golden! The museum itself is within a real Victorian school whose fixtures and fittings have remained unchanged for 130 years. Students wrote (with right hands only) on slates and did not speak unless spoken to. It was a truly memorable experience.
