From the desk of Doug Bolton

Thanks to everyone who attended the Annual Meeting of Port Royal Plantation Landowners at the Westin on November 14. Next year’s Annual Meeting will be a great celebration in Port Royal Plantation’s new Beach House! Throughout the year, the best way for Landowners to stay informed is by attending the monthly ‘Link up with Lance’ gatherings. These informative question and answer sessions give you an opportunity to get up-to-date information and to interact with our management staff and other landowners. Our website, e-blasts, Trident and Board meetings also provide current information so everyone can keep up with what is going on in our community.

As we wrap up another year we should always remember to count our blessings. Hopefully yours include love, health, travel, friends and family. Port Royal Plantation has always been blessed with landowners who show their thanks for our dedicated staff by giving generously to the employee holiday fund. Every dollar donated goes directly to our employees. We recognize that we are in constant competition with other employers on the island, as well as in the Bluffton area, to attract and retain these valued employees. Our annual employee holiday fund is just one way to let our staff know how much we appreciate what they do. A smile and a kind word can often make a huge difference in someone’s day. I wish you the best for the holidays and the New Year.

Thank you to the over 200 Landowners who came to the Annual Meeting, and to the over 550 Landowners who participated in the election process.

PR On November 3, 2017 the Port Royal Beach House was demolished by Cleland Construction. It took approximately 40 minutes to make the structure scrap and another three days to haul it all away. Over the past month a small group has been working with Graves Construction on cost engineering the project down to meet the $3.5 million budget approved by the Board for the Beach House Project. After much discussion and without losing any square footage, the Board has agreed on a fixed price not to exceed $3.39 million plus a small contingency. To establish a secure foundation for the new building, over 120 pilings will have to be sunk 55 feet into the ground. The Board wanted to make sure this is done in a cost-effective way and, most importantly, in a way that will have the smallest impact possible on neighbors, as well as reducing the risk of damaging the Association’s swimming pool. Helical piling meets all of these requirements, as the pilings are screwed into the ground rather than using a hammering or vibrating technique. Once the standard AIA contract is completed, the engineers can produce the stamped plans required for permitting. It will be exciting to see the new construction begin!

PR Help Hilton Head Fire Rescue Keep the Wreath Green! Hilton Head Island Fire Rescue has an 8 foot wreath, which is illuminated with green bulbs, at Shelter Cove Park. If a fire occurs during the Holiday Season, one of the green bulbs will change to white or red. This will include preventable fires such as cooking, smoking, space heaters, candles, etc. The goal is to keep the wreath green. The wreath will remain lit Thanksgiving through January 1, 2018. You can also check the status of our wreath and view fire safe holiday tips at www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov and click on “keep the wreath green”.

Here are a few holiday safety tips to remember: ●Remember, when using a live tree, check to make sure the needles are fresh and green and you water the tree daily. ●Make sure your candles are on a study base and keep them away from curtains, windows or exits. If you put candles on a coffee table, be aware of children or pets that could come in contact with the candles.

● Never connect more than 3 strands of Christmas lights together and don’t overload your outlets. ●Turn off all tree lights before going to bed. ● Always use a fire screen in front of your fireplace and don’t overload or burn trash in the fireplace. ●Make sure all of your holiday cooking starts with a clean oven and never leave cooking unattended. Always have working smoke alarms!
