1. Porto and the North where Portugal was founded in the 12th century Porto, a World Heritage city, is known for the Port wine which is shipped from here all over the world, but also for a heritage which combines ancient churches and monuments, such as the Cathedral and the Church of São Francisco, and modern buildings, such as the Casa da Música and the Serralves Museum. The region is crossed by the Douro River which enters Portugal between the ravines and mountains of the interior to flow through the entire World Heritage landscape where the Port and Douro wines are produced. In the area of mountains and natural parks, the region’s heritage is seen in its castles, such as the one in Guimarães, and the shrines and churches which are the stage for pilgrimages in the summer. You will find the Baroque architecture of Northern Portugal in its stone and gilded carvings side by side with rural chapels. In its cities, such as Viana do Castelo, Braga, Lamego, Chaves and Vila Real, and in the manor houses and stately halls, you will find the genuine Portuguese people, who like to share their table, their customs and traditions.

Gastronomy: Make a “Portonic” (a mixture of Port and tonic water) as an aperitif and start your meal with a characteristic caldo verde broth, the most popular soup in Portugal. There are different traditions along the coast, with fish occupying pride of place in Matosinhos, Leça da Palmeira, Póvoa de Varzim and Viana do Castelo. Some of the best salted codfish (bacalhau) recipes originate from here and the sardine enlivens the coast. Fish and seafood are washed down with vinho verde in the Minho region; it is always served chilled. The famous red wines of Douro are best when accompanying pork dishes, which in the north take the form of rojões or arroz de frango, which give off heavenly flavors, or dishes of veal, whether barrosã, maronesa, mirandesa or another kind. Just room left for a delicious dessert: in Braga it can be the creme caramel Abade de Priscos, in Amarante Papos de Anjo or the universal leite-creme or arroz doce. And washed down with a glass of Porto to finish the banquet from Porto and the North.
Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: Porto’s St. Francis Church - a perfect example of Rococo or Late Baroque. Porto’s Ribeira - stop for a coffee in one of the delightful sheltered pavement bars. Porto Wine Cellars - in Vila Nova de Gaia; they are a Portuguese ex-libris and document an unusual history of temperance and courage; knowing them is to deepen knowledge about the Port wine, the Douro region and the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. Guimarães Castle - in the first capital of Portugal and birthplace of the nation’s first king.

2. Center of Portugal – Everywhere centuries old heritage proudly displays the history of the region. In the interior of the country, there are mountains and villages of granite and schist. By the sea, fishing villages and cosmopolitan beaches with water sports set the pace of the day. Some of these places are so important for humanity that they have been included in the UNESCO list of world heritage. This is the case of the Monasteries of Alcobaça and Batalha, the Convent of Christ in Tomar and Coimbra University. But there are other unique features that are well worth discovering. For example, the Schist Villages and the towns of whitewashed houses, like Óbidos, a treasure within walls. The cities, where modernity is combined with tradition – Coimbra, the university city, and Aveiro between the Ria and the sea.

Gastronomy: The Centre of Portugal has some of the most well-liked dishes in the Gastronomy of Portugal. One good example is the leitão (suckling pig) from Bairrada, eaten with a sparkling wine from the region. The coast also offers seafood and fresh fish cooked in caldeirada and ensopado dishes, which can also be prepared using fish from rivers and lakes, all washed down with a white wine from Bairrada. In the sierras, you can try the Dão red wines with recipes for goat, such as chanfana (cooked in red wine) or roast kid (cabrito assado) as well as veal (vitela), cooked to a special recipe of its own in Lafões. The stuffed sausages (enchidos) of the countryside regions include maranhos, morcelas de arroz and others, each one with its own particular characteristic, such as a particular herb to imbue it with flavor. There are well-known cheeses, such as the famous Serra da Estrela, Castelo Branco, Alcains or Rabaçal. Creamy or cured, they are all excellent.

The crystal clear waters that rise from the thermal springs balance the body and soul. And the beaches! River beaches surrounded by forests and coastal beaches open to the Atlantic Ocean, provide certain freshness on hot summer days. They are also well known spots for surfers from around the world, who come for the perfect waves in Peniche, and even the giant waves in Nazaré.
Suggested trips: Codfish Route - will take you to the city of Ílhavo that has a long sea-related tradition. Buçaco Woods make them your starting point for a stroll through Nature in the region and fall in love with the serene exuberance, almost magical, of Buçaco’s intense green color. Óbidos Chocolate Festival - during several days the medieval town’s narrow streets will be transformed into genuine showcases of cakes and sweets that everyone can sample and purchase. Lisboa is Portugal’s capital and the hub of a multifaceted area that appeals to different tastes and senses. In a city that has been influenced by many different far-off cultures over time, there is still a village feel in each historic neighborhood. Stroll through the Pombaline grid of streets in the Baixa, Lisboa district that opens on to the Tagus in Praça do Comércio, then follow the river to discover some of the city’s most beautiful parts: the monumental area of Belém with its World Heritage monuments, the mediaeval quarters and the latest contemporary leisure spaces, such as the Parque das Nações. If you continue to the mouth of the river, you’ll understand why we say that Lisboa is the center of a vast resort. Along the coastal road you’ll find beaches and beach resorts that combine villas and hotels from the beginning of the 20th century with marinas, terraces and excellent golf courses. Cascais and Estoril are the most iconic. Further along the coast you’ll come across world-renowned surfing beaches, but also the palaces scattered across the cultural landscape of Sintra, a World Heritage Site.

Gastronomy: The grilled sardines are mandatory fare in any typical restaurant or beach terrace, particularly in the summer, accompanied by grilled peppers and seasoned with the excellent Portuguese olive oil. However, the boats that lend color to the region’s fishing ports bring many other fish and seafood for scrumptious bouillabaisses, fish soups or simple grilled fish, such as the red mullet from Setúbal and the fried cuttlefish. As for sweets, the temptations around the capital are many and by themselves justify the trip: walnuts in Cascais; queijadas (cheese tarts) and travesseiros (egg and almond pastries) in Sintra; when you cross the Tagus to the south, you will find the Azeitão tortas (egg cream-filled rolls). But there is one that no-one can miss when visiting Lisboa: the mouth-watering pastéis de Belém.
Suggested trips: Mini-cruises that depart from Setúbal - during which you can admire the dolphins, the estuary and the stunning coastline of the Parque Natural da Arrábida. Baixa, Lisboa - to better view the Tagus River, why not descend the hill to the Baixa; there one finds many typical Lisboa esplanades, the muse of many intellectuals; the nest of poets, writers, singers and other artists, in the Baixa one feels the weight of tradition. Fado - is an expression of what it is to be Portuguese that has also been awarded World Heritage status. You can hear it at night in a fado house. Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: The Palácio Nacional de Mafra - a monumental complex that contains a basilica, a monastery and a palace, and is the most important masterpiece of Portuguese Baroque. The Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra - a mythical magical place to be felt. Belém quarter - in Lisboa, next along the riverside is the neighborhood with the largest number of heritage sites connected with the Portuguese voyages of discovery. Arrábida - the hills, the Natural Park, the beaches and the historical buildings show how the best of nature can lead to best of Mankind.

4. Alentejo Where the plains that extend as far as the eye can see. To the north, the pastures of the marshlands; in the vast interior, unending flatness, and fields of wheat waving in the wind; at the coast, wild, beautiful beaches waiting to be discovered. The vastness of the landscape is dotted with cork oaks and olive trees that withstand time. Here and there, you find a walled town, such as Marvão or Monsaraz, or an ancient dolmen to recall the magic of the place. Around the hills, low, whitewashed houses stand on small knolls, castles evoke battles and conquests and the yards and gardens are witness to the Arab influences which shaped the people and nature. Gastronomy: The Alentejo has always been a great wheat region, sprinkled with cork tree areas and large herds of pigs grazing on the plains. As such, bread pork and olive oil are the bases of one of the most delicious cuisines in Portugal, seasoned with herbs which bring the aromas of the fields to the table. Soup is a main dish, and may be cold when gaspacho, filled with bread in the sopa de cação, or salted codfish (bacalhau) or tomato or the linguiça stuffed sausage. Bread also forms part of the migas dumplings which accompany pork and lamb (ensopado de borrego) or the simple açorda.

In the Alentejo the power of the landmarks the time and cities like Elvas and Évora, listed as World Heritage by UNESCO, show the tenacity of the people. But you must also explore the coast. The landscape here is hilly and rugged, with small sheltered coves between the cliffs, many of which are ideal for surfing. You will also breathe the scents of the countryside here, the aromatic herbs that season the fish, seafood and other regional fare to be accompanied by the region’s excellent wines.from rivers and lakes, all washed down with a white wine from Bairrada. Suggested trips: Évora - a book of Portuguese art history; walk through its narrow streets lined with white houses, discovering along the way the monuments and details that reveal its rich heritage. Rota Vicentina - drive along and you will be accompanied by the ocean between jagged cliffs and, at times, you will be presented with seemingly endless fields of wild flowers. Enjoy Tróia - boat trips in search of dolphins, beaches extending as far as the eye can see, restaurants with fresh fish and terraces on the sand... this is the simplest description of a vacation in Tróia, ideal for the whole family. Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: The Cromeleque dos Almendres (Twin-Stone Circle and Menhir) - set in the beautiful and sacred Alentejo landscape, this double stone circle is now considered one of the oldest in Europe. The Elvas Castle - with the largest bulwarked dry-ditch system in the world. The Ducal Palace in Vila Viçosa - the last residence of the Portuguese monarchy; the main façade is completely covered with local marble and takes Italian Renaissance architecture as its inspiration; the building has three floors and each one, from the ground floor to the last, corresponds to one of the classical orders: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian.

5. Algarve The Portugal’s most popular region for holiday-makers. It was here that, in the 15th century, the Portuguese set off on the epic journey that led them to discover other peoples and cultures. There’s no shortage of high quality beaches in Algarve. Sandy stretches as far as the eye can see, framed by golden cliffs, virtually deserted islands marking the boundary between Ria Formosa and the sea, and small coves sheltered by the rocks. Gastronomy: The Algarve is a region of sun, fish and seafood. The quality and variety are so great that a grilled fish or some barnacles eaten on the Vicentine coast can seem a true delicacy from the Gods. There are also the region’s own recipes worth mentioning, with cataplanas, caldeiradas or fish soups. Try some horse mackerel (carapaus) or the traditional charcoaled sardines in Portimão. Or tuna steak in Tavira or octopus from Santa Luzia. The Algarve is an excellent place for delicious clams, cockles, razor clams, and oysters from Baleeira, Alvor and the Formosa River or the little squid and cuttlefish. However, the Algarve also has a sierra and recipes coming down from the land such as boiled chick peas, or the fruits which flavor desserts, such as almonds, oranges and figs, as well as the morgados and Dom Rodrigos cakes which nobody can resist! Among these fruits are those which provide flavor to the liqueurs and spirits (aguardentes) such as medronho da serra and amêndoa amarga.

And there are also the mountains, where people live in harmony with nature and maintain traditions that they love to share. And the cities. Silves preserves traces of its Arab past and Lagos from the time of the Discoveries. More cosmopolitan Portimão and Albufeira are bustling towns by night and day. Tavira is a showcase for traditional architecture and Faro deserves a long stop to discover its beautiful historic center. There are many internationally acclaimed golf courses as well as hotels, tourist villages and resorts, from the simplest to the most sophisticated.
Suggested trips: A day out in Ria Formosa - on the long strip of sand that separates the Ria Formosa from the sea you will discover some beautiful, almost deserted, beaches, while the Natural Park, which extends over 60 km between the Ancão Peninsula and Manta Rota Beach, is frequented by about 1.500 species of living creatures. Cruising the Algarve coast - with about 200 km of coastline, great weather and calm waters, the Algarve is ideal for sailing, even if you don’t own a boat, since there’s always the option to rent one or to join the cruises that explore the beauty the coastline. Nightlife in Albufeira is a must - take a stroll down the strip or downtown, have a dinner in one of the many restaurants in the area, or dance all night in its discos and bars. Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: Ponta da Piedade - possibly the most beautiful natural feature of the Algarve coastline, where the shoreline is formed of heavily weathered cliffs that have been carved into rock pillars, natural tunnels and hidden grottos. Vilamoura’s Marina - modern, lively and sophisticated, Vilamoura has developed around its marina, and is today one of the largest leisure resorts in Europe. Faro’s Old Town - is, to use that hackneyed phrase, a little gem. It’s small, quiet and wonderfully atmospheric. River Gilão, Tavira - Tavira is very seductive, and from the streets along the River Gilão to the castle walls from which you have the best view over the town, it makes you want to discover its hidden corners and unlock its secrets.

6. Açores - Nine islands, nine small worlds where the friendliness of their inhabitants is shared by all. To the East, on the island of Santa Maria, the beaches of warm white sand are inviting, and the vineyards covering the slopes like an amphitheater resemble giant staircases. São Miguel, the largest island, is seductive with its Sete Cidades and Fogo Lagoons. The power that emanates from the earth is felt in the geysers, hot thermal waters and volcanic lakes.

In the Central Group, the islands of Terceira, São Jorge, Pico, Faial and Graciosa are set harmoniously in the deep blue sea, where whales and dolphins can be spotted, to the delight of visitors. On Terceira, the World Heritage town of Angra do Heroísmo is steeped in history. Faial is the cool blue of the hydrangeas, the marina painted colorfully by yachtsmen from all over the world and the extinct Capelinhos volcano, which resembles a lunar landscape. In front is Pico, a mountain that emerges from the sea, with vineyards planted in black lava fields, a unique culture that also has World Heritage status. On São Jorge, the highlights are the Fajãs and the cheese, a unique specialty with an unmistakable flavor. Graciosa is an island of green fields covered with vineyards that contrast with its peculiar windmills.
common delicacy. The rump of beef from Terceira Island is well known throughout the islands as well as the much enjoyed boiled meat dish cozido das Furnas, on the island of S. Miguel, where hermetically sealed containers are placed under the earth and the food is cooked in the natural heat present in the ground. And there is also the traditional recipe for yams with the linguiça sausages from the various islands. The islands are home to excellent cheeses. The most famous of these is that of the island of S. Jorge. As regards desserts, pastries are the most common, but there are also tasty queijadas from the island of Graciosa. But do not forget to try the pineapple from the Azores. Suggested trips: Whales and dolphins watching - Among the resident and migratory species you can see more than 24 different types of cetaceans in the waters of the Azores. Corvo Island - the smallest of the nine islands, where the only settlement on the island, Vila Nova do Corvo, is located in a lava fajã which forms the island’s main level surface; it is a picturesque and unusual village which features facades of black stone with white trimmed windows and doors, and narrow streets, locally called canadas, paved with rolled pebbles and weathered slabs. Flores Island - As a part of the global network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves, the island of Flores, the westernmost territory of the Azores and Europe, has landscapes that are true havens.

Gastronomy: In the nine islands of the archipelago, the seafood is amongst the tastiest, and there are barnacles and limpets to offer a gastronomic delight on all the islands. Fish can be grilled freshly caught, or cooked in caldeiradas or fish soups. Stewed octopus is another

Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: Horta’s Marina - a visit is a must for the excitement of seeing the yachts moored there and for the great open air exhibition of paintings made on the jetty by all the visiting sailors. Lagoa das Sete Cidades - this is the biggest fresh-water lake in the Azores, situated in the volcanic craters that form the island, constituted by two lagoons (the Green Lagoon and the Blue Lagoon) that form a wonderful scenery of great natural beauty; according to the legend, the blue and green colors of those waters were formed by the tears shed by a couple in a misunderstood love… Pico Mountain - Portugal’s highest mountain situated at 2.351 m (7,713 ft.) above sea level; the immense volcanic cone of Pico Mountain imposes itself on the island’s landscape; inside its main crater there is a cone of lava designated Piquinho, on top of which fumaroles permanently vent steam to remind us of its volcanic nature.
7. Madeira - A garden with charm and sophistication. found in the drinks and the delicate desserts. The famous Madeira wine, whether drunk as an aperitif or digestive, goes well with the traditional honey cake (made with sugarcane honey). Sugar cane is also used to make the aguardente to mix in to the famous punch, to be tried when climbing the Pico do Areeiro. Finally, we just need to mention the bolo do caco. Except that this is not a bolo (cake) but a type of bread, which, through being baked on a piece of tile, was given this name.

Right in the middle of the Atlantic, the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo are a haven of natural beauty. The exotic colors of the flowers stand out from among the blue sea and the emerald green vegetation; this is an archipelago where two thirds are a protected area and where the largest laurisilva forest in the world is located.
Suggested trips: Levadas walk - About 1.500 km of levadas (irrigation channels) to explore, discovering breathtaking landscapes, a unique encounter with nature. Flower Festival – in celebrating springtime and the exuberance of the flowers that typically bloom in that season, and here with even greater intensity due to Madeira’s subtropical climate, Funchal is the setting for a truly sumptuous spectacle, the city’s Flower Festival. Carros de Cesto - these cars are made of wicker and wood, and has two seats; these sledges are powered by two carreiros, or sledge drivers wearing white uniforms and straw hats, who control this mean of transportation by making use of their boots as brakes.
The springtime temperature, felt all year round, cries out for open air activities. You can go for a walk along the network of levadas (irrigation channels), visit the city of Funchal and discover the heritage associated with the Discoveries or roam freely around the island. Boat rides are an excellent way of admiring the coastline from a different perspective. Madeira offers various tourist complexes and accesses to the sea with prime conditions for leisure boating and scuba diving. The island of Porto Santo is the ideal place to escape from stress and undertake a thalassotherapy program, or a beach holiday combined with a spot of golf. Explore Portugal’s preferred landmarks: Cabo Girão viewpoint - situated on the highest promontory in Europe, at an elevation of 580 m, offers a vertiginous view of the fajãs of Rancho and Cabo Girão – small areas of cultivated land at the foot of the cliff – as well as magnificent panoramic views over the ocean and the municipalities of Câmara de Lobos and Funchal. Beach of Porto Santo - The 9 km beach, with an extensive and continuous shoreline of fine golden sands, has given the island the popular name of “Golden Island”, becoming its trademark and main icon, together with its uniquely crystal-clear and turquoise-blue warm waters. Mercado dos Lavradores - The Farmers’ Market features New State architecture, including large tile panels that decorate the facade, the entrance and the fishmonger; here all kinds of products are sold, mixing colors, sounds, smells and multiple nationalities. Gastronomy: Right in the Atlantic, the fish and seafood of the archipelago are tasty and cooked in traditional ways, such as fillets of black scabbard fish or tuna steaks, served with crispy fried maize; there is also octopus and delicious seafood, such as limpets and winkles. The most traditional meat dish is the famous beef on a skewer made of a laurel stick, which gives it a unique flavor. With its exceptional climate, Madeira grows a large variety of crops, in particular sugar cane and tropical fruit (such as the much appreciated banana, pineapple and passion fruit), to be

1. Douro Wine Farm Experience The Douro cellars and farms are the ideal place to discover the history of the wine. Visit a farm where they produce the precious nectar of the region and relax while being lulled by the seduction of nature in fabulous balconies overlooking the Douro River. You can stay in a hotel that was once a cellar or, if you prefer, choose more modern accommodation but which is perfectly integrated into the natural environment in which it is set. We chose for you one of the best wine farm in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region, an ancient property and modern winery perfectly integrated into the landscape. It has a total area of 99 hectares, 65 of which planted with the traditional grape varieties of the Douro. Visit to the property with a guided tour to the Winery and the Wine Cellar. The Robotic Lagares will be visited too. After the harvest, the best quality grapes are carefully selected and then taken to be treated at the robotic Lagares. Here, the fermentation occurs in a process that allies best of the traditional treading method with the most advanced technology. The goal is to have the highest control over the temperature and the stabilization of color and flavor. Everything will be explained! A special tasting takes place in the vineyard while learning all about the richness of the Douro’s terroir, enjoying an astounding view. Mountains and valleys, shaped by men over the centuries into step terraces, create a surprising contrast with the magnificence of the Douro River and the picturesque village of Pinhão. To not be missed is a picnic lunch in the vineyard! An outdoor experience of contact with the nature and the amazing landscape of the Douro Valley. A relaxing moment in the vineyard with gourmet food and a bottle of good wine. If you visit the Douro in September / October, you cannot miss the opportunity to participate in the harvest of grapes and get to know, from the inside, a tradition that has been passed down through several generations. The harvest is a unique experience. Inhale the aroma of the vineyards, share the joy of the workers songs and you will see that you will leave the Douro appreciating a simple glass of wine and seeing it with new eyes.

2. Surf Lesson in Peniche ”You cannot stop the waves but you can learn how to surf” (Jon Kabat-Zinn) It is told there is nothing that can be compared to the feeling of riding a wave. It is a feeling of freedom, a pure rush. So, why not to try it?! There is no better place for this than Peniche – the westernmost city of mainland Europe. Surfing has been part of Peniche’s daily lifestyle for the last decade or so. Records of foreign surfers date back to the mid 1960’s. Nowadays the region is Portugal’s main surfing area and although there’s no large urban center it is considered by many the true Portuguese surf capital. The variety of surf spots available providing unique consistency in Portugal but also the ASP World Tour Championship presence in October are two of the main reasons for this claim.

3. A day at the farm in the countryside Explore Portugal works with a farm that has in the last thirteen years proved that the Estremadura can impress with some excellent wines. Just northwest of Lisbon, it is a small family run vineyard: national varieties thrive amid some carefully chosen international grapes. We offer an authentic experience of “Portugal in a nutshell”: the softly rolling hills of vineyards, the century old historic, elegant buildings, the impressive ancient cellar, the tastings and the gourmet treats turn a visit to our winery into an interesting and highly entertaining event. Explore Portugal invites our guests to involve with some of the most remarkable experiences in the farm. Mandatory is the Visit to Vineyards and Wine Tasting. Wine tasting in the ancient cellars with Rosé, White and Red wines, accompanied with regional cheeses and marinated olives. Another interesting feeling is the Olive Oil Tasting. Tasting of 5 Portuguese Extra Virgin Olive Oils in the arched cellar below the Chapel to the sounds of Fado. The Tasting takes guests on a journey from the North to the South of Portugal, each region reflected with the best it can offer, highlighting the fine culture of an ancient tradition. And why not a special “self-made” lunch with a Culinary Class Portugal in a Nutshell?! Led by a Chef who will show and explain the various steps in the confection followed by an informal lunch, including local wines. The menu is quite Portuguese and complete – a starter, a meat main course, a fish 2nd main course, dessert, coffee and muscatel aperitif. 13

Feeling inspired? Try a Workshop of Mafra Bread Baking. The famous Wood Oven Baked Bread of Mafra is famous in Portugal. This workshop gives participants the chance to “get stuck” in the process of bread kneading, shaping a loaf and baking it, all under strict supervision of locals who have perfected this art during decades. Some might like to add chouriço or other regional specialties into the bread. Interactive fun! The delicious result can be tasted immediately or taken home in a custom made cotton “chita” bag – You cannot get more Portuguese if you tried! And because it is not only about eating and drinking, a Workshop of Traditional Azulejo Painting. This workshop gives guests a taste of the basic skills in the art of decorating tiles, using glazed tiles, brushes or sponges using oxides, applying either patterns or figurative motives. Guests can acquire the glazed tiles as a souvenir. Having teamed up with Top Chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, also referred to the “Jamie Oliver of Portugal”, we are lucky enough to have the best team behind us, the most fantastic food suppliers and lots of exciting ideas taking your culinary experience to another level!
4. Alqueva Route Imagine a place where we feel covered by a majestic starry sky. The feeling is indescribable, and usually only possible artificially, in a planetarium, where we sit comfortably for a lesson on the stars. In Portugal, we are lucky to have that feeling in the open air. And Explore Portugal works with the most connoisseurs of the area and in astronomy who lead our guests to marvelous journeys. Right in the middle of Alentejo, the wonderful Alqueva sky is like dark velvet cloaked by a huge blanket of stars. It is a protected area and internationally certified as a Dark Sky Reserve, or “Starlight Tourism Destination”, which extends over an area of about 3.000 square km. Recognizing it as an exceptional place for star-gazing, the municipalities around the great Alqueva lake joined together in an effort to preserve this special feature and so at night public lighting is reduced to a minimum to enable a better enjoyment of this natural phenomenon. You can see the Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Cassiopeia, and a wide variety of other constellations, visible depending on the season. You can locate the signs for Leo, Virgo and Libra, discover Scorpio and Sagittarius, and even follow the mysterious Capricorn, as well as Cygnus, Aquila and Lyra. You can identify the majestic Milky Way and behold Aquarius and Pisces, Pegasus and Aries. Then you’ll see Taurus, which night after night defies the glorious Orion. And there is still time to see Gemini, Auriga and to select your favorite star. The quality of the Alqueva sky enables naked eye observation of a large number of celestial bodies. But to make everything perfect, the ideal is to have binoculars or a telescope. If you don’t have any with you, no problem, we will make this equipment available and be ready to learn how to look at the sky and identify the stars. In the midst of nature, you will be surprised by the ever mysterious megalithic monuments such as the Cromlech of Xerez, near the Orada Convent, and the dolmens and menhirs that are part of a tour of the heritage of the region, and you mustn’t miss a trip to the admirable walled village of Monsaraz, where the streets and houses are made of schist.

There are a number of suggestions for discovering the Alqueva area, but the Dark Sky Route is undoubtedly a journey of surprises and discoveries that you will always remember.
5. Tastes of Algarve & Romantic Sailing This tour is a complete blend of experiences! One will start the tour with a visit to Monchique, a known thermal village inland Algarve. It is in Monchique there will be a visit to the facilities where the typical medronho (arbutus) firewater is processed, from the picking of the fruit to the bottling of the famous brandy. Visit also to the honey factory, where all the honey extraction process is explained. The visits include the honey and firewater tasting! Driving down through the hills for visiting Portimão, Ferragudo and Carvoeiro, where guests can visit the typical shops and guide will do an introduction about these cities’ history and culture. A lunch in a typical restaurant will be waiting you! The cherry on the top of the cake is reserved for the Ria Formosa National Park with a private cruise! During this adventure one will have the opportunity for wondering landmarks like the natural inlets, oyster and clams farms, desert beaches, the Ria’s water channels and salt farms. Experience the unique sensation of a special dinner on an anchored sailboat in one of the lagoons of Ria Formosa, where you can taste oysters and other local seafood, a fresh wine and a light dessert for two.
6. Nature in the São Miguel Island Azores - the Portuguese Emerald Islands in the Atlantic. The Azores is one of Portugal´s 7 Natural Wonders. This means nature and protected environments and every shade of green and blue that exists. Sites of calm tranquility amongst greenery and flowers, crater lakes and lagoons of breath taking beauty, are just one characteristic of S. Miguel Island. It is in this special environment we take our guests to immerse in the nature with an unforgettable day tour. Imagine yourself floating in the deep blue ocean of the Atlantic, watching and hearing dolphins in their natural habitat. Learn more about the species, enjoy the ocean and find yourself on this invigorating trip! Before the trip we provide a general presentation about: the dolphin species, how to swim with dolphins in the wild, how to use a mask and snorkel, rules and how to behave around the dolphins and safety measures aboard. After lunch in a local restaurant we depart on our jeep tour. This wonderful tour combines some off the road routes in both highlands and flatlands, taking you to the amazing natural reserve of Lagoa do Fogo to enjoy nature at its best. Astonishing views from the top of the crater’s border are a must to photograph! We then drive you to Caldeira Velha, a warm iron-rich waterfall where you can go for a dip to experience its warm waters.

7. Gardens of Madeira Madeira Island is famous throughout the world for its natural beauty and is often called the ‘floating garden in the Atlantic’. However, there are also a wide variety of gardens and parks that are carefully maintained and exhibit a vast array of flowers, plants and trees. Join us on a journey to Madeira Island’s most delightful gardens… this visit will surely delight you! Our proposed itinerary takes us to the Botanical Garden, home to about 3.000 species of plants from several places in the world. 200 of these, being endemic species from Macaronesia and some growing exclusively in Madeira. It has a rich collection from different floras containing in total over 15000 specimens. At the end of the garden there is an area devoted to exotic birds with a collection of 300 rare birds. The Madeira Orchid Garden has more than 50.000 plants. There is a beautiful and genuine exhibition built in a miniature forest, of a wide variety of orchids. Here you will find a bit of everything from flowers to birds to fish. There are plants blooming throughout the year. In the Quinta do Monte Tropical Garden has a famous collection of ceramic tiles, oriental gardens and a number of water features. Plant collections include both indigenous and exotic collections, and there is large area with typical plants from Laurissilva Forest. Spacious lakes full of koi fish can also be founded. The Monte Palace Museum is found here with a collection of contemporary art. The gardens of the Casa Velha do Palheiro, probably among the island’s oldest, were created in 1804 and remain famous to this day for the beauty of their design on the hills of Funchal, as well as for the incredible variety of rare plants. The garden is a Mecca for Camellia lovers. Visitors may be surprised to see trees such as Oak, Beech, Chestnut and Cedar growing alongside Eucalyptus and Araucaria pines, but such is the diversity of this unique garden. All year round there are plants and trees blossoming in Madeira, waiting for your visit!
