The series of stamps with Polar motifs was launched in 2018 with two of them featuring images from Bouvet Island. The series includes motifs from both the Antarctic and the Arctic. This year’s two stamps feature scenes from Svalbard, as it is 50 years since the national parks and protected areas on the Svalbard islands were established. One of the stamps shows Forlandet National Park on the island of Prins Karls Forland, off the west coast of the island of Spitsbergen. The other stamp in this year’s issue depicts a Svalbard reindeer, a very hardy creature that can survive temperatures as low as -40°C. As in previous years, the designer of this year’s stamps is Magnus Rakeng.
Both Arendal and Risør are celebrating their 300th anniversaries this year. They are two of the white-timber towns on the Sørlandet coast in southern Norway; dream holiday locations for many Norwegians and unknown gems that delight the overseas visitors who discover them. Kristin Slotterøy has designed the stamps, which both depict the towns and the magical light that can be experienced in Sørlandet.
