A letter from the pastor BY PASTOR
STAN &
ROBYN
HARVEY
He Is Risen He is risen, a three word statement that is so profound and carries huge implications. Because if Jesus was not resurrected from the dead, as the great Apostle Paul said, in 1 Cor 15:14, “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.” In essence, if the resurrection of Christ did not occur then, our ministry, faithful enduring, acts of love and preaching of the Gospel is useless and empty. It would all be for nought, if this event never took place. Why? Because firstly, it would mean that Jesus was wrong and he lied, when he claimed that he would rise from the dead on the third day. If this is the case then we can not trust anything that he said or did, or the veracity of the Bible. Thus, there’s no point in believing Him. Secondly, if Jesus did not rise then, there may be no resurrection for anybody else, including his followers. Thus, if we simply disappear and no longer exist after death, then there is no perfect judgement and no ultimate accountability for the life that we have lived. If we are not having to be accountable to the ultimate Judge, then it makes no difference in the end if we obey God or disobey, if we sin or live a good life, we all just disappear and everyone’s end result is the same, nothing. This certainly makes for a horribly bleak and miserable prospect but the Good News however is that the resurrection of Jesus is one of the most provable events in history. Dr. Simon Greenleaf, Royall Professor of Law at Harvard University said, “There is more evidence for the historical fact of the resurrection of Jesus Christ than for just about any other event in history.” The weight of evidence of the resurrection of Christ is overwhelming when examined, and since He did rise again, it means we can take Him at His Word because not one jot or tittle shall be passed from his Word until it’s fulfilled. We can also take courage that our lives here on earth counts towards our eternal reward. When we obey God’s Word, we can trust that we receive God’s gift of salvation. Let us walk in the newness of life and victory wrought through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, receiving God’s abundant life here on earth and everlasting life to come!
