Town and Country An exhibition by Martin Millard 8th—31st October 2010 At Potterton Books London Potterton Books are delighted to be hosting “Town & Country”, an exhibition of work by local artist, Martin Millard. Millard is an artist who delights in the eclectic, the unexpected and the classic beauty of our world. Working outdoors and engaging with the atmosphere of the street and the landscape, Millard depicts the quirky building, the Georgian terrace, the stately lighthouse. The exhibition includes a range of original work in both pen & watercolour, gouache and pencil & charcoal. Many of the pieces depict local landmarks in Chelsea. Others show the buildings and sites that Millard has discovered on his travels. Martin Millard graduated from the School of Visual Arts, New York, in 1975. Since then, he has lived and worked in London. After practising as a barrister Millard returned to an artistic career. Specialising in depictions of London architecture, Millard‟s work celebrates the historic and seeks out the unusual. Martin has shown in many group shows and exhibits annually at Art for Youth in the Mall Galleries and also at the „In and Out‟ club in St. James‟ Square. In July 2006, he won the Gwen Mandley Watercolour Award at the Chelsea Art Society exhibition. He also works to commission and has produced the Christmas card for the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, as well as school portraits.
