Light in the darkness

Firefighters’ tree for 30+ years

Every year since the early 1990s, professional firefighters have volunteered their time to string hundreds of Christmas lights on the big, old fir tree that stands proudly in the parking lot at Westview Veterinary Hospital.

Brad Collicutt, a 17-year-veteran with Powell River Fire Rescue, is one of the firefighters who’ll be stringing lights from the ladder truck this year. “Because the tree is centrally located it’s easy to see when it’s decorated.”

Giving back to the community is important to firefighters. “People enjoy seeing the tree all lit up and we like to be able to do something nice for our community during the holiday season.”

Brad says it’s a way firefighters can thank the community for supporting the Firefighters Charitable Society’s benevolent initiatives.
